Attendance was really bad last night

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Announced attendance of 9,981 and it wasn't even close to that.

Especially bad for a Challenge game. 3rd worst-crowd for one here ever with the two ones that were worse being in the Ellerbe era and Beilein's first year where we won 10 games.

Football season still on the brain? Only averaging 10,074 through 4 games and that number will likely drop to 4 figures with the thrilling game on Saturday against Kennesaw State.

This team may not be great but they deserve more support than that. They represent our great university. Those empty sections are all student sections. Warde should consider offering those to the general public.

This team just isn't very fun to watch. Guard play is usually the driver for fun teams and guard play last night was quite underwhelming (counting Irvin as a wing). Maybe I'm just spoiled from the Fresh Five years.

But our backcourt play is going to be a big issue going forward. Teams are going to start playing extended pressure D on this team in the halfcourt and I think we're going to have consistent problems dealing with it. Just not many players who are going to really hurt you off the bounce.

There were 12 Challenge games. None had a lamer crowd than ours. Are all those teams more "fun to watch" or are Michigan basketball fans just fairweather? Nobody should be defending this or searching for justifications on why Crisper has sucked lately. Own it.

Get a better coach and a better team and more people will start attending games. Michigan basketball isn't exciting to watch and the team is average at best.

I hate to do it, but I agree with you. Like anything else, UM basketball is a product. Sure, we love the school and should support them and rah-rah-rah. But it ain't cheap. So to take my kids last night, buy tickets, parking, snacks, drinks, maybe a souvernir I'm looking at what, $200 bare minimum? On a Wednesday night?? For that, I need to be entertained with a high quality product. Last night, sitting in my living room, watching UM go 4 minutes without a bucket to close out a team they had dominated in the first half, I was not thinking, "hey, this is a team I should pay good money to watch live!"

If Michigan was winning it wouldn't matter about the product but since 2013 the team hasn't felt like it could make a deep run. I think that's why people don't go. I lost faith in Coach B a long time ago get negged for it all the time but, the proof is in the results. Michigan basketball with the right coach could be elite and they aren't

What coach would you pick? Make sure it is realistic?

I would argue there is maybe 4-5 top notch coaches out there and then a bunch who has their squad in the running every 2-3 years. Beilein falls in that pack of just good enough to make a run now and then. He runs a clean program and that is still a big thing for the administration.

Come on, man. My kids know the deal. No souvenirs or food or snacks at the stadium/arena unless we smuggle them in. I tend to get tickets to some of the "free soda/hot dog" games anyway though at the kids' request. I always park for free on the streets.

I can attend a Michigan basketball game for usually either $75 or $125 depending on the opponent.

The cost isn't the issue for me, it's the time (I live 2 hours away). I love going on weekends.

Weeknight games need the more local support. Even the great teams of 12-13 weren't always fully supported in November on a Wednesday. Sad, but true.

There's only 1 guy that actually dunks (Wilson) and even that doesnt happen much. They're not exciting, there are no starzzz on the team, and no (as of right now) NBA prospects. We've watched this team shoot themselves out of basketball games. South Carolina was awful and after the hot start last night they did it again in the 2nd half. Living and dying by the 3 doesnt equal alot of fan support.

Why is the Athletic Department so stubborn to just scrap those upper bowl student seats that NEVER get filled these days and make them open to the general public? The Maize Rage is on a huge downward spiral, and the student section directly behind the basket doesn't even stand anymore. Plus you have to take into account that this team just isn't that fun to watch right now.

There are about 5 more times where MBB and Hockey play at the same time.

One instance is playing osu in hockey in MBB at home at the same fucking time.

The scheduling is clueless. Utterly clueless.

Field Hockey had a game going on at the same time as UCF game in football. Why not at 3:30 so people leaving the game would head over? You'd actually have a crowd.

I get that's not important to many, but just things like that to me are mind-boggling. Because there's more than one instance of double and even triple booking.

Also, Warde saying no night games because he likes the daylight. I hate night games and I think one at home per year should happen because the majority of the PEOPLE want it and the players probably do as well because it's a great atmosphere.

Clueless says the guy with ZERO intel on all the factors involved in scheduling games with another entity. There are dozens of factors that go into scheduling a time and date. Ontop of that, how many of these schedules were made before Warde took over?

Clueless, you say? Totally agrer.

So the field hockey game he's complaining about was against Villanova. You think maybe they'd want to finish that game earlier so their students could get back to campus in PA at a somewhat reasonable hour--particularly if they're busing? They had another game three days later in New Jersey, too, meaning they were probably at home for about five minutes before having to turn around and travel again.

But, hey, college sports are all about fan convenience.

I don't know why "It'd be nice if small sports weren't scheduled at the same time as football games, and it'd be nice if the two biggest winter sports didn't play home games at the same time" is being treated like a crazy opinion. People would rather trash WD than address that these things are unideal. Lots of people have hockey and basketball tickets, many of those people are students, scheduling games at the same time is unfair for those people. I am sure there are reasonable factors that lead to things being at the same time, and I am also sure if they really decided to make scheduling harmony across sports a priority, it could lead to more Michigan fans going to more Michigan sporting events.

It's okay, it's to be expected.

I used field hockey as an example because it was ridiculous.

The previous permanent AD never scheduled both big winter sports at the same time at home. And he was awful.

Instead of the why and the how we can fix this, it's just flame flame flame.

The board is a flame board now. Overrun by trolls who either flame you or contribute to the place being in flames when our 10-1 football team comes up short in in 2OT on the road against #2 after a bad call.

Dude - you are not the spokesman for the Michigan fan base.  You do not have some superior insight to offer.   You're just a  guy - a college student (at a different institution, no less).  You try to take on this curmudgeonly persona and it comes off as a silly act, especially given your apparent addiction to buying cheesy merchandise.

Your support is welcome, but man, take it down a notch.

Honest question. Why do you say that?

If it's because you continue to get hassled, don't let them bother you. One thing that sucks about the Internet is that people speak their minds too freely and don't feel the repercussions as much due to the fact that you can hide behind a computer screen and not see the consequences of your actions (and therecore don't have to face guilt as severely). I know you understand that as well, but just be you and try not worrying about having to defend yourself. I think sometimes your defense mechanisms are what get you into trouble.

I may be way off based throwing these remarks out there as you could have been referring to something completely different, but I felt like saying it anyway.

Discussions. It's a message board man. Don't take it so hard.

Not everyone is going to share your point of view. Not everyone is going to share my point of view. The board would be boring if we all were happy all the time, or if we were all down all the time.

I hope your above post isn't going past the message board world. Maybe it's my background in the field, but you can't throw phrases around like that and expect people not to be concerned.

Hates anyone from just what they've seen on a message board, they should get their head checked.

This is all in good fun, for the most part. People are passionate. You just need to try and see both sides of the arguments. It's not ridiculous for people to be pissed off for seeing this team lose again to OSU and miss out the BTC. Sure, projects can take 3-5 years to truly run great, but everything seemingly fell into place THIS season, and it was a colossal let down. You can't blame people for being pissed, you just can't.

Well in all sincerity I do hope you feel better.

You are young as far as life goes and hopefully you will find that your hardships now are not as large as you think they are.

When a young branch is green, it is flexible to be able to weather the winds of life.

Once it is older and done growing it must choose to bend in the wind or break.

Seriously, you need to talk to a counselor if you feel that way.  You are young and have way, way to much to look forward to; even if you are not satisfied with everything in your life at this particular moment.

Really, step back and view the big picture.  At your age all is ahead of you.
