Dear Mr. Delany,

Re: OSU vs Michigan

I’m going to the trouble of writing this letter to ask a very simple question.  How in the world could you, with the top 2 Big Ten teams, on the country’s biggest stage, a game known as “The Game”, could you entrust such a game to that officiating team?  A team consisting of a disgraced former referee that had already been dismissed for incompetence and two other Ohio referees one of which is a publicly unabashed Buckeye fan.  Of course none of this would be of significance were it not for the fact that the incompetence and biases played out in such an obvious manner that you cannot find a single reference outside of a direct OSU partisan to not scratch their heads at the many calls/non calls that all broke for OSU.  I guess to be fair, we should note that these “officials” did call 2 OSU penalties totaling 6 yards.

A Cleveland newspaper covered Harbaugh’s tantrum and looked at 6 plays of particular note, all of which were debatable call/no call/proper spot/ etc situations.  And indeed they were all “judgment” or toss up calls.  And all of them broke for OSU.  So if you flip a coin 6 times, what are your odds of getting all “tails”?  1/64 is the answer of course.

If I wanted to watch pre-ordained sporting events, I’d be a WWF fan.  I am not going to besmirch your office's motives.  I am going to chalk this up to carelessness.  As a retired Medical Device Executive for a fortune 500 company, I know how I would have been viewed had I been this careless under similar circumstances of such equal import.  Hence my original question, how could you be so careless with such an important event?  Additionally, why should we have any faith in the competence of your office going forward?  Finally, does not the University of Michigan deserve an apology for this blatant abdication of diligence?

With a sincere response to this inqiry from your office I will donate $1000 to the charity of your choice, please include the specific information with your response.

Dear Jim, If the conference can't even handle assigning competent referees or avoiding a perceived conflict of interest for officials, what do you actually do over there to justify all the money you're making from underprivileged and unpaid labor? Fuck you, The Masses

Dear Jim as a life long Wolverine fan, with no officiating experience, I would like to nominate myself and at least one othe ref from Michigan to offiate next years, no doubt game of the year to be held in AA. I feel this will balance the scales. And fuck you.

Look obviously you shouldn't send this, but I just have to note that I googled that address and there's a fucking Fogo de Chao in the same building as the Big Ten offices. Just in some small random office complex in suburban Chicago.

How much money that isn't getting spent paying the players is getting spent on Delaney's daily unlimited meat feasts? That's the real tragedy here.

Don't.  Or, at least, proofread it first. :-)  You're repeating "could you" in the second sentence, and the third is a sentence fragement -- that's where I stopped reading.  Delany's assistant will do the same.

Just wasting your time for a letter he'll never read.  Game is over.  Nothing is going to change it.

Print out the infamous Akron News story about the OSU fan who wasn't allowed to ref the game in 2006. Include that with your letter. Highlight that passage. Odds are he never sees it, but you never know.

Dear Jevablue:

Thank you for your nice letter.  We did, in fact, spend a LOT of time on the selection of the officiating crew for Saturday's game (to the point where my wife started asking questions if you know what i mean) and after much thought and deliberation we selected those guys as it gave OSU the absolute best chance of winning.  And it's only with OSU winning that the B1G has a shot at two entries in the final four and have you seen how much money that would bring in?  I mean if we could pull that off it would make the  payoff for the inclusion of Rutgers & Maryland into the league look like raising hot dog prices at a Purdue home game by a quarter!

Anyways sorry things didnt work out for you guys.  Think positive and root like hell for Washington & Clemson to lose this Saturday and my guess we'll both be quite happy with the end results.

Your pal,

Jim

Sadly, while this comment is being made in jest, it's also not completely implausible. I'm certain Delany didn't deliberately try to sabotage Michigan's chances Saturday, but I'm betting deep down inside, he's really glad with the outcome, for the reason above.

Not directly related to the game, but basically because I wanted to yell at people. I emailed BTN because fuck'em, and I emailed Rick Snyder, because his inactions in Flint could have poisoned me.
