OT: I need your prayers; perspective on things

Submitted by Crime Reporter on

All,

I write this with a very heavy heart. I realize everyone (myself included) are seething over Saturday. It's been on my mind every hour.

That being said, I just received devastating news that puts this game in perspective. My coworker, my friend, Michael Bohlen, died of a massive heart attack last night. He was 23.

Michael was one of the bright spots in this stressful, often depressing job we do at 911. He always saw the humor in things, and was incredibly skilled. He often worked 60-plus hours a week like so many others here due to a constant number shortage.

I'm at a loss for words. This hurts. Please say a prayer for Michael and his family today. He will be missed.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I remember when a close friend died suddenly several years ago, and my subconcious mind refused to acknowledge it for at least a week.  I went to his memorial service hoping that small part of me that kept saying "nah, can't be" would find peace and acceptance.

Best wishes.

Man, So Sorry Bro.  I have no words, but to say I will pray for the Bohlen family and may Christ's Peace and Comfort be with his family and you too.  Take care and take time to mourn and celebrate a good friend.

Our prayers go out to Michael, his family, and to you.

What a great friend you are for doing this for him. You know that somewhere, he deeply appreciates it.

We live in an age where 63 is considered "much too young" but 23 is almost unfathomable for a heart attack.

I'm sorry for your and the Bohlens' loss, and hope you all can find comfort in his memory as you get through this awful time.  Based on your description, he likely helped save many lives before he passed.

I hope his family finds some peace in the days and weeks to come.  Much too early to lose someone so alive and talented.  My prayers to you, his family and friends.

Perspective.

Sports and outcomes of games don't mean anything. They're entertainment at best.

Life is about the moments we share while being entertained... or just living.

So basically fuck the games, live life. Do more things with those you enjoy being around. Make memories. To hell with letting a game bother you. They're meaningless.

Father,

We lift up Michael Bohlen's family and friends today. It is deveatating to lose someone so young and full of life. I ask that you would be their comforter. That you would show them how Michael's hope and cheer can live on through them. Be there now in their time of mourning and let them feel your peace I pray. In Jesus name. Amen

I give you and his family my sincere condolances and wish you all the peace possible in your hearts this holiday season. As for your perspective comment you are spot on. It really is eye opening isn't it when you are so upset about a football game and bam life say's small peanuts. So remember never forget, it could always be worse and I never tempt fate by thinking my current situation could not get any worse because it can and has, so many times.

This strikes a bit of fear in me. I'm 24 and never really fathomed that a heart attack at my age is really possible. It really makes me think. I'm sorry for your loss, CR. I hope that with time your wounds, and the wounds of his family, can be mended. Take care.

I, unfortunately, went into this game (and the MSU game and the election) with a huge dose of perspective.  I lost somebody very close to me this fall--someone a little younger than your friend.  I have been walking through life in a surreal haze.  It just doesn't seem possible.  I was bummed this past Saturday about the OSU game but not nearly as much as I would have been in past years. It's just a damn game.

The one thing I can say is that it's ok for you to not be ok with this.  Sometimes, things hurt and we've got to allow ourselves to feel that hurt.  Also--time helps.  It doesn't make everything ok but it does get better every day.

 Sending love and good thoughts.

The shock will eventually wear off, but Michael's loss will always be felt.

Since you asked for prayers, I offer the following to you:

Almighty Father, eternal God, hear our prayers for Your son, Michael, whom You have called from this life to Yourself. Grant him light, happiness, and peace. Amen.

Blessed (gratefully praised and adored) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:3-5

He is close to the brokenhearted and crushed in spirit - Ps 147:3

Lord make your presence known, let your people be moved to action as they mourn with those who mourn. Let their mourning be turned into joy in the proper time.

I'm so sorry.  You and your friend's family are in my prayers.  And as you suggest, let's all take a moment to remember what's really important--what really matters.  Yes, losing that game Saturday so unjustly stinks, but my goodness...  This is real loss.  Folks, tell someone that you care about that you love them today.  My condolences.

Very Sorry for your loss, CR. Tragic. I prayed over and over this weekend for a sense of peace and perspective regardless of the outcome of this game. I know how I can get during games, and it is not always a good look for me. Was blessed to have some great moments with my family, good news about my wife's health this morning to help make priorities clear.

I regret that your perspective is coming under such tragic circumstances. 23 is so young. Losing a close friend/co-worker is more gut-wrenching than any poor spot could ever be. Thinking of you and your friend's family today, and those in harms way down in Columbus.
