Maize and Blue…

The staff hasn't cooled on him but as Oliver's timeline drags out there is the very real possibility that he loses his spot.  The staff must be feeling real good about DPJ, Nico, and Tarik.  Add in Brad Hawkins who is finishing a prep year and we have four WR in the class after taking 6 last year which reduced to 5 with Mitchell transferring.  Throw in the fact that if they land Ambrey Thomas he can play both ways and Martin becomes a luxury.

For some reason, writers wanted to claim we were taking 6 WRs last year. That included Evans, Mitchell and Hawkins. Never made sense, because it was predicated on moving Evans from another position while not moving Hawkins or Mitchell to safety.

Crawford looks like an outside WR, not a slot. Johnson should be a slot. I think McDoom could play inside or outside as needed. Hard to tell where that's going to be.

The reasoning here and Martin setting up an official to Notre Dame led to the Crystal Ball change. With the number of players still on the board there are going to be some targets whose timelines determine whether they'll have a spot in the class more than their interest; Martin could be one of those guys.

nico, hawkins, DPJ, black

if we have that 4 and all the other positions/recruits we in for, might be a numbers game at this point

also apologies as i forget, is he an EE? Could this be a crunch for early kids?

Maybe we are looking to take WR's that will play on the outside (DPJ, Collins, Black) since we are losing Darboh and Chesson. Seems like we have the slot position covered for the next few years (Perry, McDoom, Johnson, Hawkins?).

Crawford is an absolute animal on run blocks as a true freshman. I think he will come into his own as a pass catcher. He made an unreal grab against Maryland and in the first game of the year he made an awesome all-hands grab when Sugar Shane Morris threw him a laser beam on a slant route.

Sam said once Hawkins became a clear take one of Black/Martin were likely to end up elsewhere. Seems the staff likes Black more.

That's a reasonable explanation. I wonder if the coaches have also heard from someone like DPJ who is an EE that things for are looking good. Regardless of when he makes it public, DPJ, or any EE for that matter, has to be pretty sure where he's headed at this point.
