My sister lives in Columbus, and I am flying in Friday morning to get a lay of the land (I hear there's some excellent food). I think she's taking me to an OSU tailgate that is supposedly pretty tame. If not, I intend on simply going to and from the stadium without stopping anywhere.

literally 3 miles from the airport for 4 years. I can offer food suggestions if you're looking. If your sister lives there shes probabaly got some ideas in mind already.  I would avoid the Campus/Upper Arlington area if at all possible until game time. Where does your sister live? Columbus proper or one of the burbs?

Sadly, a lot of the food in Columbus is chain restaurants. From what I have been told this is because the demographics of Columbus are exactly what a lot of large corporations are looking for (younger, upwardly mobile, college educated with expendable income). As a result there's pretty much every chain restaurant you can imagine.

As far as non-chains go, it all depends on what you're looking for (even some of the chains are good).  City BBQ has a joint in Gahanna and a few other around the city and they have damn good BBQ.  if you want authentic bagels/ NY deli type fare, go to Blocks Bagels in Bexley (also used to be one in Reynoldsburg but that may be closed) Katzingers is the "famous" deli in Columbus, but Blocks is better. I may be biased as the owner is a good friend of my Father in Law. who is a second generation Bagel baker who moved from Brooklyn to Cleveland in the early 90's and ran a chain of successful bagels stores/ delis here for 15 years until he got tired of 14 hour days that started at 2 AM. If you want seafood or Chinese, you're S.O.L.

If you have any other questions, Id be happy to try and help

Good luck when you come down. I live in the outskirts of Columbus and people are already giving me shit for wearing UM this week. Depending where the tailgate is you will have to deal with a lot of OSU drinks. They're assholes.

I'm heading down sat morning early for the first time. I've heard the "horror" stories about their fans but I could honestly care less. I think it's time we stand and look the bully right in the face and tell them we're done with their shit. Give it right back to them, be strong, be confident. Don't let anyone else ruin your time. Being soft gets you nowhere. We're better than they are win or lose (preferably win) so show them! Go Blue

And pretty much every other day bu I live here. Like BleedThatBlue said lots of nut jobs already yelling at people who wear Michigan stuff, but again they always do.

I asked the UM Club of Central Ohio, no official tailgate. I wish I had the resources to set something up but would be happy to contribute some beer if someone was planning on having a larger UM-friendly tailgate.

I lived in Columbus for 2 years when I was a kid. I hated every moment of it. My folks still live on the North side, so I find myself there a few times every year. German Village is the "up and coming" part of town. There are trendy pubs/microbreweries, etc in that neck of the woods. (Tip: Google "Columbus German Village Restaurants" and work from there.) I will be in section 6C Saturday with my son for his first experience in "the shoe." I hope to see a ton of Maize and Blue! GO BLUE!

The stink that is Columbus rises to heaven and offends the Lord Himself...it's only a matter of time before He hurls a meteor on that hellhole.  I don't want to be there when it happens.

My brother, his wife, and I will be getting into town on Friday evening.  We are staying on the North side of Columbus right off of I-71.  Saturday we will likely setup a small tailgate wherever we end up parking.  Most likely we will be to the West/Northwest of the toilet bowl.

We are aiming for a 0700 arrival to the small parking lot at the Stickney Tennis Center.  It is a small isolated lot, with mostly tow away lots to the north west, so hopefully it isn't a very desireable spot for buckeye tailgaters.  I hope to see some other Wolverines there.
