META: Posters and user-generated features that you want to see again

Nice to have THE_KNOWLEDGE at the top of the diary section again, even if I've never been that taken with the feature. Reminds me, though: there are some other features and writers that have ghosted or at least seriously reduced their presence here. The user-generated stuff is one of the great features of MGoblog, and I hope to see more of it continue to prosper.

Two things I miss seeing this year: Alum96, who was/is a great poster and whose recruiting posts were essential reading...

And the long lamented BlueSeoul (now SFBayAreaBlue) Game Wraps with Pics.

I will remember them by making a stick football player with punctuation over his head for purposes of nostalgia.

This used to be the source for information on expressing your dog's anal glands.  That's a feature that should return.

Also, I miss Section One.  Sort of the Don Quixote of the board for many years.

I remember back during the RR / Hoke transition years, profitgoblue and Section1 were real regulars.  WHat ever happened to those two?

As for features, Wolverines in the NFL and "where are they now" about former Wolverines not in the NFL would be pretty cool semi-regular columns.

Just glad the point system is back after that one (year?) it was non-functional. 

It really helps looking for the best comments out of 100.

I do miss wallpapers people used to make.

Not even close. For one, with a successful team, we're all a lot happier. For two, the immediate feedback makes it much easier to adapt to posters who are less pleasant. Reprehensible remarks are negged as such and people don't feel like they have to respond verbally to make sure that the poster knows they were saying something objectionable. 

The no-points year was actively caustic and unpleasant. It was a constant, angry shouting match. People were leaving or getting tossed, and many others were about ready to give up. I don't think it's anywhere close to that bad now.

Yeah, really weird. Anyone know what happened to him? Hopefully just busy and decided to go easy on mgoblog. I once noticed how much he posted and occasionally checked his profile and he basically wouldn't go less than 30 minutes without posting besides a few hours of sleep. I had a running joke with my girlfriend about it even. She would sometimes ask how alum96 is or when the last time he posted was.

I had the same thought - really dug Alum96's diaries and general perspective.

Full disclosure - in the mod role, I can actually see e-mail addresses in profiles, which in some cases are crap addresses but a few I know are good. I might send an e-mail to the one he provided in the event we can find out what is up and if it is OK to provide updates if I get a reply. That might seem a bit nosy, and I try not to be that way, but I too am a little concerned.
