CFP Rankings Speculation
Welp. I'm as pissed as anyone but fortunately Michigan still controls its own destiny.
Today was the classic late season, everyone loses Saturday and we thought it would be dull. So with #2 Clemson, #3 Michigan, #4 Washington, "#8" Texas A&M & #9 Auburn all losing what happens Tuesday? Believe it or not, our loss was probably the most respectable of them all with Clemson losing at home to a similar team and Washington lost by double-digits at home to a ranked team.
I have no idea how you sort this out. Do we even drop? I'm guessing
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Michigan??
- Louisville??
- Clemson
- Washington
It's going to be hard for the committee to justify throwing Louisville past Clemson and all the way up to 3 and no one else can really justify overtaking us but OSU. Is there a shot we stay put with a last second loss on the road at night?

Who cares?! Just win the fuck out, if possible

It doesn't really matter. OSU is going to destroy this team. Not enough talent yet.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:09 AM ^
Ive been drinking but I still think this team can beat OSU. Tonight was as bad as it gets but hit a few deep balls that were there for the taking and this wasn't even close. M plays up to its potential and we can take down OSU. Did I mention I had a few adult pops?

This team needed another road challenge early on during the season. toSU will be very tough, but winable
November 13th, 2016 at 1:14 AM ^
don't forget, osu beat northwestern by 4 points at home just 3 weeks ago.
November 13th, 2016 at 1:14 AM ^
You better hope it isn't cold in Columbus. Our OL was wearing sleeves tonight.
November 13th, 2016 at 2:02 AM ^
but OSU has a ridculously good secondary. Actually, it pisses me off that those fu*kers have that much talent back there. The run game is what's going to have to be clicking to have a shot in Columbus.... On the flip side - Our run defense is very solid outside of Peppers so that's a plus when trying to visualize the matchup.
November 13th, 2016 at 7:57 AM ^
Yea and 2 of their secondary starters were committed to us and flipped cause they wanted to win..
Looks like penn state is going to the b1g title game now cause I don't see us beating osu
November 13th, 2016 at 11:02 AM ^
Logged in to upvote the mention of adult pops.
November 14th, 2016 at 4:57 PM ^
as we have had in a long time. If we don't beat them or at least hang with them this year, it might be a few years before we can match them talent wise.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:04 AM ^
UM still controls it fate.
But they have to win at OSU which looks...doubtful.

OSU is hitting their stride right about now and we're left with a lot of questions while providing teams with the blueprints to be us.
Who knows? Let's beat Professor Chaos (IU) and get on the right track first.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:04 AM ^
1. Penn state.... never mind. Really don't care. Does it matter or do the final two games of the season matter?

...? the last two games mean everything. Win out and they're in the Big Ten title game.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:04 AM ^
at least it's pretty simple for us now.
BEAT OHIO!!!
GO BLUE!
November 13th, 2016 at 12:05 AM ^
Yeah Clemson lost to a worse team at home. Idk though. We might be 4th. 5th at the lowest. Wish Louisville lost too. hell I wish we fuckin won UGH.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:37 AM ^
Classic. How do you justify that? Perhaps the psu common opponent?
November 13th, 2016 at 12:51 AM ^
Massey had Iowa two points better than Pitt; Sagarin had it a toss up (Iowa better by 1/4 point). FEI had Pitt #39 and Iowa #45.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:05 AM ^
Probably 4 or 5. I truly think Louisville is a better team than Clemson and would beat them on a neutral field.
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Louisville
4. Michigan
5. Clemson
6. Wisconsin
7. Washington
November 13th, 2016 at 12:23 AM ^
Idk if they jump OSU up because as of now they can't be conference champion...
November 13th, 2016 at 12:55 AM ^
That literally has zero to do with the ranking at this point in the season
November 13th, 2016 at 1:19 AM ^
Committee has shown it's skittish about putting a team in if they have to later drop them
November 13th, 2016 at 2:13 PM ^
loses again. It's unlikely, but if we can lose to Iowa favored by 21, they can lose to MSU.
November 13th, 2016 at 2:09 AM ^
I would go....
1 Alabama (benefactor of a weak conference)
2 OSU
3 Clemson (can't put Louisville ahea of them yet)
4 BLUE
5 Louisville (sceptically)
6 Washington
Weird that all of the teams that lost today really can't drop much further than this. Will be intersting to see what plays out with PSU, seeing as they clearly played a flukey game to beat OSU and may very well find themselves getting beat by Wisconsin in the BIG championship game... WTF
November 13th, 2016 at 10:00 AM ^
We will have wins against 3 of the top 10. Clemson will have beaten Louisville. What is Louisville's signature win? #18 FSU. I can't see the committee moving Louisville into the top 4.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:06 AM ^
This loss is meaningless. If we beat OSU we still go to the B1G title game and if we win that we still make the playoff. Clemson and UW both lost today. Everything is still in front of us.
If anything this should refocus our team, tough loss can be a good thing.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:16 AM ^
and it seems like it has. I'd rather lose to Iowa and take that gut-check now before we go into Columbus. A lot of work to do, but better to know now than get shocked in 2 weeks
November 13th, 2016 at 12:40 AM ^
but do you really see this team going on the road and beating Urban Meyer? Be honest with yourself. Speight is okay for a RS sophomore. He is not a national championship winning QB.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:42 AM ^
Last two years Ohio State has started murdering people after their first loss. Hopefully Michigan finds the same motivation.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:59 AM ^
I disagree that this loss is meaningless. Given what transpired today, a Michigan win would have essentially rendered the OSU game meaningless. Had Michigan beaten Iowa, the top 5 would have looked like this:
1) Alabama
2) Michigan
3) Ohio State
4) Louisville/Clemson
5)Clemson/Louisville
Under this scenario, I don't see how a close loss to #3 OSU would drop #2 Michigan out of the top 4 considering neither Louisville or Clemson have any marquee games left on their schedules. You could move one of those team over Michigan but there's no way you could move both of them up.
That said, you are correct that Michigan is very much alive and in control of their playoff destiny.
November 13th, 2016 at 3:13 PM ^
Losing to Iowa ended UM's chances of making the playoffs if they lose to OSU. With all the upsets yesterday, if UM could have scraped out a win I think they would have had a strong chance at making the playoffs at 11-1, if the loss to OSU was close.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:07 AM ^
We'll be 5th at best.
1. Alabama
2. OSU
3. Louisville
4. Clemson
5. Michigan
6. Wisconsin
7. West Virginia
8. PSU
November 13th, 2016 at 12:21 AM ^
Well...fifth at worst, technically. But I agree we will be fifth.

Don't see any way Louisville is ahead of Clemson or Michigan. We have three wins that are better than any of their wins. Clemson is similar. Having the "best" loss shouldn't overrule much better wins.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:50 AM ^
I think we'll be behind both Louisville and Clemson. Something like
1. Bama (10-0)
2. Ohio State (9-1)
3. Clemson (9-1)
4. Michigan (9-1)
5. Louisville (9-1)
6. Washington (9-1)
7. Wisconsin (8-2)
8. Penn State (8-2)
9. Oklahoma (8-2)
10. Colorado (8-2)
Although I think 4/5 is a coin flip. And that top 10 gives Michigan three top 10 wins which is better than anyone else, so....who the fuck knows. Maybe Michigan moves up with a loss, LOL.
November 13th, 2016 at 1:20 AM ^
Did you say we'll be behind Louisville, but then put us above Louisville in your rankings? Lol, no biggie, but I've been drinking and that caught me offguard.
November 13th, 2016 at 2:10 AM ^
I've also been drinking and changed my mind when I did the top 10 but forgot to change the top part of the post. Gonna be tough to punish Michigan with 3 top 10 wins. I mean hell, tell me why they aren't #2?

November 13th, 2016 at 10:56 AM ^
3 top 10 wins, Michigan SHOULD be #2. But in reality 2-5 it does not matter, need to win the big ten at this point and we are in.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:57 AM ^
Problem is, you're using logic to determine what the CFP Committee will do. That's your first mistake
November 13th, 2016 at 12:07 AM ^
I mean, I don't see them falling past Wisconsin. Clemson and Washington both just lost at home. I guess I could see them flip with Louisville since Clemson > Iowa.
Win and make the playoffs. It is that easy. This week's rankings won't matter that much.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:09 AM ^
and Bama is by far the best and OSU a distant second and then everyone else is WAAAYYYY behind them.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:14 AM ^
Remember when PSU beat OSU? The same PSU that we womped on, the one that whooped up in Iowa....... That's crazy man.

Yeah the same Iowa team that lost to an FCS team at home
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
November 13th, 2016 at 10:13 AM ^
That FCS team has beaten every FBS team they've played for the better part of a decade now and is probably better than half the teams on Michigan's schedule.
I'm not saying Iowa's all that good--they're probably 30-ish overall--but that particular argument is lazy.
November 13th, 2016 at 12:23 AM ^
Well, ya Sherlock...If you only watched today you would be correct
November 13th, 2016 at 12:09 AM ^
With 3 top 10 wins (assuming Colorado comes through) is there a case for a better 1 loss team at #2??

We will be ranked 4 or 5. Louisville will jump us and it depends whether Clemson will stay ahead of us.
