One Frame At A Time: Maryland Comment Count

Ace

As you may have noticed in today's game column, I'm trying a new format for GIFs: gfycat, which load faster, have much better quality, and allow you to do stuff like speed up or slow down playback if you click through. I hadn't switched over before because uploading and tagging was cumbersome; now the program I use has integrated that entire process. Today's post mostly features the old format as I do a test run with a few gfycats. If all goes well, I'll do the complete switchover next week. Feedback is encouraged.

[Hit THE JUMP for the rest of the Maryland game in GIFs.]

For GIFs, click the links/stills to open each GIF in a lightbox, and right-click then hit "save link as" if you want to save them. Gfycats should play automatically, and you can have fun with slow-motion and the like if you click on them.

HONORABLE MENTION

Gedeon/Peppers TFL.

Gedeon/Taco/Peppers converge on QB.

ButtYAC.

Doink.

Evans not-quite-a-TD.

Harbaugh disagrees with OPI.

Panda misses pickup, makes up for it.

Delano receives gift.

Kinnel TFL.

Speight scramble.

Chesson touchdown.

Winovich sack.

McDoom jet, Asiasi pancake. (gfycat)

John O'Korn pancakes a guy.

Kekoa Crawford's first career touchdown
.

10. Butt Truck

Much like that rudely dispatched Maryland defender, every other tight end in Michigan history is now behind Butt. In his rear-view mirror, so to speak. Passed like the wind between... okay fine I'll stop.

Butt.

9. Trampled Turtles

While not quite on par with Chesson Goes Bowling, that's a nice two-for-one for Kekoa Crawford, Chesson's heir apparent as wideout-who-will-wreck-you.

8. What Are You Doing?

After being targeted on consecutive, doomed fades, Jourdan Lewis asks the question on all of our minds.

7. Panda In Flight

The most graceful member of the ursidae family.

6. No Class Double Pass

For all the trickery, this play still required a hell of a throw by Wilton Speight.

Ensuing Jabrill Peppers first down signal:

He's fun.

5. Route++

Extra crispy.

4. Air Wilton

Full play:

Just the dismount:

10/10.

3. Not Safe For Testudo

Enhance.

I never, ever want Michigan to have a mascot, but I'm so happy so many of their opponents made a different choice.

2. Hat In Orbit

The lack of reaction from anyone in the background, save for Devin Asiasi trying to catch Harbaugh's hat when it (finally) returns to Earth really puts this over the top.

FRAMES OF THE GAME: TEAM BELLY RUB

This is only the second-best Mo Hurst belly rub moment of the game even though he seemingly apparates into the hole, chases down the QB, and rips off a piece of his jersey before the celebration.

That comes in second because Jabrill Peppers joining in on the belly-rub action qualifies this—which I stitched together from two different clips because I'm very dedicated to the belly-rub cause—as arguably the MGoGIF of the year thus far.

It's beautiful.

In the mobile app, the GFYCat GIFs do an auto launch, which is sub-optimal, but not awful. On the plus side, they load as a new window that I can close instead of hitting a back button that takes me to the MGoBlog home where I need to click back through and find my place in the post. +1 for current GFYCat. Would give a +3 UFR if we could stop the auto-launch

Both Hat in Orbit and the Double Belly Rub are strong Gif of the Year competitors.  I assume Hat in Orbit will be a 1 seed in the 2016 Harbaugh Gif Tournament

Feedback on gfycat: It's doing this weird thing on the mobile app where I open the article and then a few seconds later the gif pops up. Not sure if there's some sort of auto load that's causing that or what. But I do love that it looks like my days of opening a million browser windows when reading these posts on mobile are over!

I voted for the belly rub duet because of course, but my second favorite one was the enhanced Testudo gif. When I was a student at Maryland, I always wanted to be the mascot (and I probably would have been pretty good at it), so it's amusing to imagine myself in those shoes watching my dream school and all-time favorite football team beating up on my actual school. All of the mixed feelings.

The Evans non-reversal?

EDIT: Yes to that. Let me also take the opportunity to say I'm disappointed in those of you not voting this #1. This is the only comment I will be making this week vis-a-vis voting.

The not safe for their mascot one. That's the face of a fanbase for whom all hope of competing in the game has died. So sweet...when it's someone else's team. And it's somneone else's team practically every week!

I really liked the "What Are You Doing?!" because I said it out loud at the same time and the only "person" that heard me was my dog. Even she had this look on her face when I looked over...

Image result for confused dog

...she's a golden lab though.

To think I was actually worried as I scrolled down... wondering if Ace had somehow missed the double bell-- oh thank god. I would love to see the student section all doing the belly rub in unision while loudly humming "MMMMMM!" ...Unless they already do this and it hasn't been on TV yet?

This season is so fun to watch. I can't pick just one.

I let the future Wolverine sitting next to me choose - and she went with the sad turtle zoom.

I loved Crawford's obvious awareness in his double bowlig adventure. Guy on right? Noted. Two guys on left? Primary target. Full speed, decision made, well played.

And the Mo/Peppers belly rub... Well, that one will make me laugh for years to come.

That poor kid is always in the line of fire and has to basically pay out the slack at a moment's notice whenever Harbaugh desides to go ballistic.  I saw a play in the 2nd half where Harbaugh went way on the field; the kid basically just had to drop the cable to prevent Harbaugh from getting yanked backward, and a bunch of players had to jump the cable like the deck crew on an aircraft carrier when a tailhook cable snaps.

Please, there has to be some kid of wireless technology out there.  For the children.

Did anyone catch the play where the blitzer just bounces off Wilton during a TD pass?

I was expecting to see it Gif'd but apparently did not make the cut.

The basic setup is, during one of Wilton's TD passes, he was being blitzed and just as the camera pans to the receiver (Darboh?), you can see the blitzer bounce off Wilton and he just kind of glances at him in the way I would look at a leaf that blew into me. I haven't had the chance to go back and try to find on my own (I expected here!).

Did anyone else catch this?
