I used to like Herbstreit. He struck me as a very impartial guy. But lately he seems to be reverting back to his 2006 form where he just disses Michigan constantly.
Examples:
"all Urban Meyer has to do is keep this young team focused when they play Michigan"
"Michigan's schedule hasn't been all that challenging, it turns out. We won't really know how good they are until they play that last game in Columbus."
"Michigan has a real test ahead of them that last week"
Those are the few that immediately come to mind. I love how he thinks all Urban and OSU have to do is "stay focused" but Michigan and Harbaugh have the most daunting task in the world ahead of them.

During the Louisville-Clemson game he was doing the Saturday OSU destroyed Rutgers and we beat Wisco, he said Michigan was not even on OSU's level. That the B10 was OSU and then everyone else. And also that Michigan was not in the same tier as Bama, OSU, Clemson or Louisville. Then he got in a Twitter war about it.
Now he's come around a bit, but he was pretty negative on Michigan relative to their ranking early in the year.

I agree. And when you compare him to Joey Galloway, oh my goodness... I'd take Herbie any second of the day over that weirdo.

I agree with you 100%. He's great, and only very rarely shows any bias. But most around here just can't get over the fact that he went to OSU.

*gasp* A former Buckeye won't say Michigan is elite until Michigan beats OSU *gasp*
Let's have some moderated excitement here. The basis of his point is correct: our season comes down to OSU. Beat them, we can make the playoffs. Lose to them, we won't make the playoffs.
If you operate on the idea that you need to make the playoff to be elite (a fair assumption), then what's wrong with what he's saying?
November 6th, 2016 at 7:49 PM ^
he doesnt use that same standard for other teams. He doesn't say that for OSU or Clemson or Louisville for example.
November 6th, 2016 at 8:31 PM ^
Meanwhile, Michigan returned most of the same team that only won the BDubs Bowl. Obviously Michigan is good, obviously they're top 4, but it's not weird for a national media pundit to be more willing to give Clemson the benefit of the doubt over Michigan at this point.

I know Michigan lost on the field, but it is interesting how a coach who paid players and lied about it is still celebrated in Columbus. I guess everybody does it, but then again ask Steve Fisher and the Fab Five how that worked out for them when it comes to Michigan.....
November 7th, 2016 at 1:33 PM ^
Got it. So cherry pick the logic for why Michigan shouldn't be included.
OSU, 15 years. Not Clemson though, because their win % over that time period is .677 compared to Michigan .635. OSU's is better obviously so use that stat for OSU.
But just say Clemson was there last year. Ignore fact that half the starters are no longer on the team (just say they are, nobody will check it), Ignore the fact that this also doesn't work for other teams who made the playoffs (MSU...), or that that was last season.
Ignore other factors for why things might be different from the previous 15 years or last year.

Didn't Clemson lose a ton of guys from last year's defense?
November 7th, 2016 at 1:19 PM ^
Yes, see my post above. 8/11 starters on defense left.
But you know, Buckeye mantra and all, never left facts get in the way of a good opinion...

Cumong man.
Citrus Bowl is the Citrus Bowl.
Bdubs is suggesting that it's what is now called the Cactus Bowl.
November 7th, 2016 at 1:20 PM ^
Do you just make stuff up to try to prove your point?
Clemson returned most of the same team that was thisclose [sic] to winning the national title last year
Except you know, 8 defensive starters:
- Mackensie Alexander, starting CB
- Kevin Dodd, starting DE
- Shaq Lawson, starting DE
- DJ Reader, starting DT
- BJ Goodson, starting MLB
- Travis Blanks, starting SLB
- TJ Green, starting FS
- Jayron Kearse, starting SS
And also...
- Zac Brooks, #2 RB
- Charone Peake, starting WR
- Eric MacLain, starting LG
- Ryan Norton, #2 LG
- Joe Gore, starting RT
If you consisdering losing literally half their starters (11/22) to be "most of the same team [returning]" then I don't even know what to think.

Yes he is a buckeye homer, that doesn't mean he isn't telling it as he sees it. Never seemed to notice unlike a mr spielman.

with his inability to recognize and develop QBs. Plus he would've hired Cam Cameron and Michigan offense would look like shit under Les Miles.
Be glad that Michigan didn't hire Les Miles whom I think is overrated. Any coach worth a shit can recruit at LSU because they have Louisiana on a lockdown.

If we had to wander the wilderness of RR/Hoke to acquire Harbaugh, I will gladly do it again. Now, sure, we probably could have had him sooner with a competent Athletic Department, but that's a different story...
November 7th, 2016 at 8:45 AM ^
We could have had him on Lloyd's staff, but Lloyd refused to hire him and instead hired Scott Loeffler.
Then again if we had Harbaugh around 2007 or 2010, he would probably be in the NFL by now...

Iowa did not suck last year, they made it to the B1G title game. They were not a top 8 team but they sure as hell didn't suck, and they don't suck this year either. The play the same crap Iowa football they always do, and the last 2 night games there I can remember are Denard playing as a freshman(disaster) and the Bellomy game(disaster) It would be an accomplishment to blow them out in Iowa on saturday night.
