Night of Champions results
Odoms won the fastest man competition (yes, better than Denard and Woolfolk).
Patterson was the fastest lineman. He apparently ran a 4.69. Will Campbell and Michael Schofield were close behind.

I thought the night of champions was about you.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:14 PM ^
No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
With your mom.
Zing!
Just kidding.
I won the Fastest Viking Contest, though. I chose to run in the nude, whereas the rest of them wore their bearskin togas and carried their battle axes.

I literally spit coffee all over my screen. Nice work.

There's a very crude joke in here that I can't bring myself to type.
Even Vikings have a bit of a conscience, I guess.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:23 PM ^
that you have a conscience. Tell the joke man, good god we all need to laugh after this depressing year.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
You must have got the spitting gene from your dad's side.
Jeez...I'm going to Hell.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
See don't you feel better now? And that was funny, I laughed my ass off fwiw.
Your a Michigan man, we don't go to hell.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
Well, you sure could have fooled me...what with the last two years of UofM football.
Ugh.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
Sorry about the typo
And whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger
March 14th, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
Magnus your not just going to hell Satan is making you a greeter and tour guide. Best news is that Big Will is running close to a 4.69. I wonder what his time was before Barwis got a hold of him.
They have him listed as a 5.00 on Scout.com

That's what your mom said!
I was hiding in the closet.
What? Like you've never hung out in a closet at the Holiday Inn Express just to watch.

P. Omameh lifted a truck over his head, D. Molk benched 1000lbs.....these nuggets of info are like Reeses Pieces on a dreary Sunday.
I think Odoms beat the gun like Seinfeld did to win Lois.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
+1 for a Seinfeld reference of "the race." Duncan is still fuming over it
March 14th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Unfortunately it cuts out the best part, when Jerry pushes Elaine aside (the look on her face is priceless) and goes straight to Lois.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
And what was the distance covered?
I have to say that I am REALLY shocked that Tay won that event. Straight-line speed was not his forte' coming out of high school...although he did get an offer to run track from Miami (Yes, that Miami) ala LaTwan Anderson.
This begs the question: If Denard is made of dilithium, of what substance is Tay composed? Trilithium, perhaps?
March 14th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
supposedly it was a 40, and tay ran a 4.35...barely beating drob
wow i didnt know tay could fly like that
because his speed has not translate to the field. Maybe he's hurt more than he let on?
Tay was in lane 1 and D-Rob was in lane 10. D-Rob is notoriously known for slow start and it was no different. If D-Rob knew that Odoms is ahead of him, he would probably put on a 2nd gear and go by him.
so if it was a 4.35 40, hand timed, couldn't that possibly make their times even faster? if they went on a "1,2,3 go" their times could also be even faster
March 14th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
this link is behind a pay wall....I really want to know...OT...Are we going to see a thread soon..... "What is the bigger upset? The 69' OSU game or Odoms beating Denard....lol..
March 14th, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
The Rivals ITF Extra didn't have much in the way of specific information, just general "X won this" and "Y team comprised of A, B, C, and D won that."
The only time mentioned was Adam Patterson's 4.69, and even that had no other qualifier attached, just simply a time.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
I bet that the fastest man competition did not involve running in a straight line.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
They were both shot out of circus cannons and the recruits had to catch them.
It was one part Fastest Man, one part Trust Fall.
In related news, this same event caused Jason Kates to transfer a couple years ago. I guess he learned he couldn't trust anyone.
March 14th, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
Just In: Denard was jogging in the event!
(sarcasm)
Medicine Ball Toss: Taylor Lewan finished
Box Jump: Mike Cox (45 inch vertical allegedly)
Carrying a Person Relay: Will Cambell's team won.
The Egg-Eating: Walkon OT Eric Gunderson was the run-away winner. It was supposed to be the first guy to eat 10 eggs, but he started eating other peoples' and finished with 14.
thanks for the info..I assume you meant that Lewan finished 1st?? Which is excellent news.
To hear that he "finished" makes him sound like the fat kid in class that everyone had to wait for then the coach made us cheer because ..."he finished"
he finished first
I originally took that to mean he was the only one to finish a contest where 60 500-pound medicine balls were hurtled from one end zone to the other.
45 inch vertical?! Hopefully we get some Moreno-esque leaps out of him this year.
Jumping on a 45" box doesn't mean he has a 45" vertical. I've personally witnessed two people jump on 50" boxes and their real verts are around 35".
If it was indeed a "box jump" (which is where you jump on boxes of varying heights), then that's not necessarily an exact way to measure a vertical jump, at least not in the way the NFL and NBA do it.
When you do a box jump, you can bend at the waist/knees to get your feet up to 45" off the ground.
However, that doesn't mean the top of your head went 3 feet, 9 inches higher than it was when you were standing up (or, in the NFL's case, that your outstretched fingertips reached 3 feet, 9 inches higher).
He probably jumped on a box 3'9" box from a standstill. So while probably not a true "vertical leap" it's still impressive.
I'm kind of new to mogblog, and was just wondering if there will be a diary written up that will recap the entire event?
Maybe?
I can't access the link, but how come no one is mentioning Will Campbell as having one of the top 3 forty times for lineman? Seriously, if he is in great shape, he may be a holy terror next year next to Martin.
His development is a major issue for the team next year.
Possibly because the 1st place guy(Patterson) is in his 5th year and has done almost nothing in a Michigan uniform. I'd rather see Campbell improve on other aspects of his game. Speed doesn't help much if you have no idea what you're doing.
Agreed, but hopefully really strong conditioning is indicative of his dedication everywhere else.
A man that big just shouldn't be that fast.
March 15th, 2010 at 11:42 AM ^
For real. If WC is still around 325 and is beating most the other linemen in sprints, that's a big deal. Obviously he also needs the technique, but his technique was good enough last year to get him on the field and play decently. With another year of technique training and that kind of raw athleticism, watch out.
March 15th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
Hopefully it's not a coincidence that Campbell's initials are shared with Michigan's last All American nose tackle.
March 15th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
Are you referring to these sprinters :)
someone should inform EA Sports of Odoms having such ground breaking speed, so they can give him the speed he now deserves in NCAAF 11
