Reffing in Michigan State games
Here are Brian's UFR referee grades for this year's MSU game:
Offense: +3, -7, -4 overall
Defense: +0, -22, -22 overall
Total: +3, -29, -26 overall
Fans always complain about reffing, but this is ridiculous. I remember reffing being terrible for many of the other Michigan-MSU games in the past. Why is it always so bad for just this game? What can Michigan and the Big 10 do about it?

I'll give you the answer if we all agree this is the last post about MSU this season.

We're even more obsessed with complaining about people being obsessed.
November 3rd, 2016 at 7:52 PM ^
Yes. It is just like any problem behavior. Don't give it the attention that is being sought and it will eventually go away. Continue ranting about it and you're reinforcing the problem. All of the complaining is actually worse than the obsession itself.

get the most worked up about MSU, Yoda. Don't make me bring up the "Walmart" thread.

I figured he was going to post some of his usual stupid content about how you can't complain about the officiating unless you sat in the student section.

For fuck's sake, MSU was our most recent opponent. Maybe Brian shouldn't even have done the UFRs.
November 4th, 2016 at 9:06 AM ^
When you're so obsessed with a team that you go out of your way to ignore them. Most of us really hate MSU here, they've beaten us 7 out of 9. It's a big win and it's ok to talk about it.
November 4th, 2016 at 9:25 AM ^
I suggest we stop using MSU's preferred time frame.
November 4th, 2016 at 10:08 AM ^
*0 of the last 1. Fixed that time frame for you.

7/15, tbh
Fuck state ...savor the win and post what you want. All the ninny whiners here ..so start a Maryland thread if you don't like it! What's that ...? Absolutely NOTHING to say on MD ...? That makes sense because it's fucking Maryland.
Go Blue !

It's the opposite. Remember we can't talk about beating MSU and OSU until we beat MSU and OSU. Well we've beaten MSU so we can now talk about beating MSU.

At the start of each game, each ref has a balance of $10,000 (maybe it varies based on how much influence/responsibility the particular ref has on the game.
After the game each team submits a list of plays for review to the official ref-ing review board. The reffing review board deducts $500 (or vary based on the egregiousness) dollars for each missed/incorrect penalty.
I realize that a particular school could just submit a bunch of junk but I would also publish a list of a schools overall success rate at the end of the year. This way if a school/coach goes overboard they would be shamed at the end of the year.
This idea is not fully formed so it has flaws.

This just reminds me of the elderly man tipping philosophy at a diner. You start off with a stack of singles as a tip and every time the waiter/waitress does something wrong you remove a dollar.
I am not saying this is a bad idea, but it just made me laugh.

No wonder the officials are down to $1-3k per game.
November 3rd, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
I don't think anything will ever come of it. At most, it will be an apology.
November 3rd, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
So, what was the *real* final score this year?
November 3rd, 2016 at 6:41 PM ^
Eleventy billion to negative 20 because that's what our fans expected
November 3rd, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
You seem to assume that the Big Ten wants to do something about it.
November 3rd, 2016 at 6:35 PM ^
I imagine even if they could them accountable they wouldn't. The NCAA and the B1G are so ridiculous. I don't know if the NCAA and NFL are the same in regards to officials. But making them full time employees and having them do mandatory weekly training on the rules and review process would be a nice start.

I do, if Tackle Taco Tuesdays (on Saturday) continue to cost us yards in more competitive games.
OSU is grabby as hell in their outside run game and were the beneficiaries of some dubious non-calls in their comeback against Wisconsin.

November 3rd, 2016 at 6:39 PM ^
Dantonio complains all game long in every Michigan game. Next year, Harbaugh and Manuel better demand to have a good reffing crew in AA for that game.

Don't we have an option to compile questionable calls and submit to the B1G for review? I would hope someone would be all over that. Granted, nothing will come of it, but it's about the principle, damnit!
