MGoCandy Vote

Submitted by Smoothitron on

It was around this time last year that I did the MGoBoard Cereal Poll(results here). I was stealing some of my kids Halloween candy while they are gone and decided to go for round 2.

Same rules as last time:

1. Click the link and type in your favorite, least favorite, most overrated, and most underrated Halloween candy and I'll count up all the horrible misspelled results and post them here on Saturday before Maryland. Poll ends Friday at 5pm.

2. No rules. If you want to rally the anthropomorphized M&Ms mascot slashfiction subreddit for votes, that's fine. The poll is set up to take one set of responses per device, if you break that to rig a dumb board poll like this, it says a lot about you.

Here is the link, go crazy.

Poll closed, total results plus interesting responses tomorrow or tonight if I'm bored.

My kids received Chinese Skittles which expired over 2 years ago, along with mystery Chinese candy - it was a brown chunk of soft (ish) candy wrapped in edible rice paper wrapped in regular paper wrapped in wax paper with the ends twisted. I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be, other than that it looked like a piece of poop. We threw those out.

And no, it wasn't the awesome Japanese Botan rice candy - that stuff is AWESOME and I would've eaten all of it.

The only time I ever got a full size candy bar was from a young professional looking dude. Receiving a full-size candy bar didn't even seem like it was an option. He might as well have given me a gold brick.

I was so dumbfounded when he dropped it in my bag that I failed to thank him. He responded to my slack-jawed silence by somewhat glibly asking me if I wanted more. I stammered out a "n-no thank you" and felt bad about it for a long time.

Didn't feel bad about that Payday though. I didn't even want to open it, I felt like it belonged in a museum.

The cereal results still get my blood boiling.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cap'n Crunch (all varieties), Reese's Puffs, and Fruity Pebbles have no place in my home, ever. They are easily some of the worst cereals on the market.

Y'all are messed up with your cereal preferences. I assume the candy vote will follow the same trend, unfortunately.

If they weren't so damn similar, the venerable Heath Bar and its younger Swedish-sounding cousin the Skor Bar would be contendors.  The trouble is that they split their own vote.

Hell, I love them both, and can't decide which of the two is my favorite.

Also, surprised there isn't more love for the old standby Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.  I see Putin's got it, but not much love for something that is ubiquitous and pretty flawless.

Zero Bars are simply wretched.  Hard to believe those abominations are coming up on their 100th birthday in about four years.  My theory is that they were invented during an ipecac shortage.

Overrated?  I'd go for Werther's Original Butter & Cream Hard Candy.  They're not bad, but what a triumph of marketing for something that the humble Brach's Butterscotch candy does better.

Some variety of Reese's cups are clearly the best candy (my favorite are the Easter eggs for optimal PB/chocolate ratio). But the question is what is best to receive, I assume in a trick or treating scenario. There, the ubiquity of the Reese's brings their score down. Nobody gets excited for a handful of mini-cups when it's the fifth house on the block that has them.

Therefore, the best candy to receive is the one that surprises you. Something different, that you dig to the bottom of the pillowcase to find so you can savor it. For me, that's Milk Duds. Especially since I have memories of carefully sucking on them instead of chewing during my braces years. A little box could last a long time.

Winner of the non-chocolate division is Dots, same reason. Dots seem to have the best artificial fruit taste of any candy I ever had.

Albanese gummy bears are the best but I don't ever think I got them on Halloween, instead I got the trash Haribo or Black Forest gummies instead.

I agree that scarcity is an important factor. While not terrible on their own, tootsie rolls are just everywhere. people give out handfuls of them. when eating the candy, you end up wading through a sea of tootsie rolls to try and find that last reese's or kit kat that hasnt been stolen yet. they are like your girlfriends bobby pins. weeks after halloween you will just find them in random places.

1) Best - Skittles

2) Worst - Whoppers (just awful)

3) Overrated - Tootsie Rolls

4) Underrated - PayDay

My favorite candies of all time are anything sour (skittles, gummi worms, sour patch kids, war heads, etc.). I'm not a huge chocolate guy, but my favorite candy bar is a Snickers, followed by a PayDay.

Cereals - in order of preference

Honey Nut Cherrios

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Captain Crunch

Reese's Puffs
