Speight versus Rudock

way I entered it. Hope you can figure it out.

You should feel bad about yourself. There, I said it.

Just kidding. I've been on this site for nearly a decade, there's a reason that I've never created a thread...fear of ridicule.

Nope!
October 30th, 2016 at 10:05 AM ^
Speight looked very good. MSU game gives me confidence he will be fine on the road the rest of the way.
I don't think many expected Speight to perform as well as he did yesterday.
Nice thought that M will have a very good QB for the '18 season in light of all M will be losing on the defensive side of the ball.

I hope Jake Butt sits Jabrill down and convinces him that staying for one more year is the best course of action.

Mande?!
Tuesday?!
October 30th, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
That is just not happening. He's projected a top 5 pick. If he also has his degree, then it's a 0% chance he stays. If he doesn't, I'd put it at about 3%.

The timing feels right for him to go... he's got the maturity.
Never have felt that, that I can remember, before -- esp. after what is essentially one year of play.
We've been blessed.
Need to re-load!!
(Hot Peppa if you're reading -- pull 'em in, cement your legacy!)

And he nailed that back flip. What an amazing athlete. That much enthusiasm and talent and where he is projected, he has got to go and make good for himself and his family.
October 30th, 2016 at 10:31 AM ^
why? other than our own selfish reasons?
I'd love to have another year of Jabrill in the winged helmet, but as a very high first round pick, there is very little reason to come back.
October 30th, 2016 at 10:37 AM ^
I'm big on guys staying in school as long as possible, but if I'm honest with myself I'll admit that moving on to the bigs is probably the right decision.
October 30th, 2016 at 10:49 AM ^
It's about the journey! The journey would be better if he stayed another year in College because it doesn't get better than being the BMOC at a place like Michigan. There is a lot to experience in that incredible place and he'll have the rest of his life to enjoy the rest of his life.
If he's about his football career, he should go; if it's about the journey, he should stay!
Hey wait a minute, this is supposed to be about Speight vs. Rudock, let's get back on task...
October 30th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
Getting paid millions of dollars to play in the NFL is probably better than being BMOC at Michigan
October 30th, 2016 at 3:35 PM ^
If you have the opportunity to be financially secure for the rest of your life you take it at the first chance.
October 30th, 2016 at 5:19 PM ^
no one has ever offered you millions of dollars.
October 30th, 2016 at 2:20 PM ^
Depends on your views I guess. Outside of the money, there's not much to entice a college player into going to the NFL. Now how strong that money pulls you is the question. But the brotherhood you have in college, the atmosphere, the fanfare, the pageantry, and the passion could not be matched by the NFL.
Many NFL players cherished their time in college. Most fun they had in their lives. There are plenty of reasons to stay in college as long as you can. Just a matter of how important that money is (which I admit, a vast majority of people would want that money)
October 30th, 2016 at 7:44 PM ^
Also likely a life goal for a lot of these athletes. Come back and suffer a catastrophic injury and that life goal could be out the window.

He needs to make up his own mind and decide to stay or go for his own reasons. It's his life to do with as he wants!
October 30th, 2016 at 10:30 AM ^
Most impressive to me was how he responded after the big hit he took I believe near the end of the first half? Made a huge completion next play. For a second there it looked like he wwanted to take himself out of the game after that hit.
October 30th, 2016 at 7:46 PM ^
There was a time he was walking to the sideline and grabbing his chest or throwing shoulder looking for the play call and Harbaugh seemed more concerned about Speight being able to throw and yelled for O'Korn

The play he made yesterday to sidestep a blitzer and then find a man downfield was some advanced-level play. Definitely reminded me of Rudock--or Andrew Luck.

I am on the Wilton train after yesterday. He played very well on the road. That pick really stole the kill shot that was coming in the first drive of the second half. However, very good game overall. It is a shame the defense didnt back up their hype yesterday.

To be fair, that's what makes a strong team. When one side of the ball is not as well as usual, the other side steps up. There was some frustration yesterday but I'm happy overall.

Us & Bama can both count on the other side of the ball playing well enough to win even when one side fails to. Bama's defense slept against Ole Miss but their O won it. Michigan's D struggled vs MSU but Speight won it.
Compare that to teams like Wisconsin, Florida or LSU (great D, no offense) or Cal, Texas Tech, etc. (great O, no defense). Michigan & Bama have both and that's why we're undefeated and at the top and why those other teams are rarely serious threats to win it all
October 30th, 2016 at 10:31 AM ^
I was very impressed with Speight yesterday. Still don't think he'll reach 'end of season' Rudock level but he's been a lot better than I expected.
The defense didn't back up their hype?! Hype is unwarranted, this defense is one of the nation's best. They got caught a few times by a rival in their house. Disappointing? Yes. But this wasn't going to be a dominating blow out performance anyway. Michigan was in control throughout and gave up some garbage time yards/points. Game was never as close as the final score. Don't forget about the multiple stops on 4th down, including that goalline stand after the Speight INT. Without that last TD, which was meaningless for the outcome, Michigan comfortably wins by 13.
Pretty sure another thread said this is the 2nd largest margin of victory over MSU in E. Lansing since 1997, I'll take that.
October 30th, 2016 at 11:52 AM ^
Knowing we got the stop on the goal line when we needed it is all the proof this defense needs to provide that it's not hype.

Also stopping them on 4th and 1 in the second quarter. That was huge. They've played better but give MSU credit for good execution (as well as lots of holding). On the whole though MSU never felt that threatening.
October 30th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
why is it that the defense didn't show up instead of the MSU offense played out of their minds?
October 30th, 2016 at 10:35 AM ^
was perhaps interesting at the beginning of season, but is now an absolutely worthless and meaningless exercise and discussion. Loved what Rudock did end of last year, but he was a 5th year season and was one and done
Speight is very good - period! Strong arm, very accurate, good size, solid and somewhat nimble in the pocket, overall sound decision making, team and Harbaugh trusts his calm, quiet leadership. And he is a Redshirt Sophomore - we get him for two and a half more seasons, perhaps frustrating the "Peters will be the QB Savior next year" idiots.
If you want to make the comparisons worthy, compare him to someone like Henne in his sophomore year, or perhaps to a great quarterback like Jake Browning. The Rudock comparison is fucking useless...
October 30th, 2016 at 10:44 AM ^
The comparison is because of how successful our offense became under Rudock and the seemingly periods of lower level of play at times.
Now that We are piling on the weeks and Speight has keep pace and even succeeded, is very encouraging for a perceived risk spot on the squad.
I too hopes he grows into a Michigan great over the next 2.5 years.

Calling people "idiots."
Can't we all just get along....
October 30th, 2016 at 11:14 AM ^
a little overboard with my use of negative adjectives and nouns - hadn't finished my coffee yet. My apologies. Please reinsert these comments:
"Fucking Useless" = "Useless"
"Idiots" = "Good fans who are are mistakenly looking for a freshman QB who has never taken a snap to be your savior over an experienced, strongly performing redshirt sophomore."
"Worthless" = "Irrelevant considering other factors and much more worthwhile comparisons"
"Meaningless" = "Fucking Meaningless"
Thank you for allowing me to clarify in a more dignified manner. Go Blue!!!

I was especially surprised by his little quarterback keep where he juked and avoided a tackler to get, what, 7 or 8 yards? It wasn't Denard, but it was something that I didn't expect. I think the announcer said that he could run a 4.7 40. That's not nothing.
October 30th, 2016 at 10:53 AM ^
Speight had a good game, but I Thai K his accuracy leaves a bit to be desired. Yesterday there were several throws where the receiver has to adjust in a way that killed his momentum when there could've been several YAC with a more accurate ball.

when I saw the stats 16 for 26. I was at the game and he looked much BETTER than that. He took big hits right after throwing the ball and was right on target. We appeared to be conservative in the 2nd half - more than "needed" run, run, pass series, but even then he made good decisions (except for the int). He also showed some mobility, which is always a plus. We know he throws great balls when he has time - today he didn't have that luxury. No McDoom in the 2nd half ???
Now then ... why is Shane taking ANY snaps ? Everyone in the stadium knows the play is a run (and 90% chance that it's a sweep). I dont get that at all. Peppers, fine - leave Speight in fine, but we ran 3 plays with Morris yesterday and each one was a huge FAIL. WTF?
Go Blue!
October 30th, 2016 at 11:18 AM ^
Maybe he's running the morris play so that you and everybody else thinks they know what's coming and then for osu, he changes it and hes got you.
