Can we stop panicking now?

Submitted by Michigan_Mike on

I have seen many people on the MGoBoard in full blown panic mode because we did not blow out our opposition. Many of them are writing off our defense as a mirage and I just don't see it the same way. No team is going to ruthlessly destroy every opponent with exacting precision.

Alabama struggled to put away a very pedestrian Ole Miss team earlier this season. Just today we have had Louisville struggle with Virginia, Washington need a punt return to beat Utah, Ohio State in a dog fight with Northwestern and Baylor is in a one possession game in the 4th quarter with Texas.

Today's game featured Michigan State put together one complete drive primarily on the back of their one legitimate NFL talent, LJ Scott. After that they struggled to put together a real drive until they were down 20 deep in the 4th quarter. During this time we had the Lewis pick leading to a FG for us, the 7 plays inside the 10 yard line stuffed and a whole lot of nothing from the guys in Green. Once they were well behind they put together two very fluky drives aided by some very iffy penalties that allowed them to "make it close." Remember this was not a one possession game at any point in the second half until there was only one second remaining. Our team is still very good and our defense dominated Michigan State with the exception of their first drive and garbage time. I am very happy with the way our guys performed and am excited to see them take on the rest of our schedule.

I don't think he played scared, I think he was playing to avoid giving Murk D'Antiguilla a lifetime supply of Shoulder Chips (TM). Harbaugh even complimented Mort's coaching ability this past week.

I did not see Mart's post game but was he as salty as usual or did he act like a real boy? I don't see how MSU can fuel their disrespekt-o-copter based on anything that happened before, during or after this game.

Mart fueled his team in 2014 and 2014 using the spike incident, best not to give them anything else.

We got a little complacent after 7 wins & a 21+ point spread.

They showed up like an underdog determined to draw blood.

Hit us in the mouth, woke us up, more or less. Luckily with our talent level, this was enough.

We'll need to do better come osu & 'bama), but then we won't be as snoozy.

If we stay alert & bring everything to the game, should beat OSU.

We will need EVERYTHING -- focus, determination, AND talent -- to beat Alabama.

But we can.

The skating / hot-and-cold motivation part -- that's just a part of college football ('specially at Michigan) -- even with Harbaugh at the helm.

Don't worry, he's working on it.

And when we get *that* turned around -- then we're a multi-year championship-caliber contender.

Play on.

I never understand fans criticizing color guys because they disagree with their opinion. Huard also said we were "elite" and that no one else other than Bama was. Regarding defense, he thinks they have better talent than we do, and that also they had played a better shcedule. Both things are at minimum debateable, and I think both are true.

You have been on fire today. You will not be stopped until everyone on this board reassess and agree with you that M defense sucks ass. I get it you are disappointed. You conveniently forget the two times UM stuffed MSU in the red zone. They may not be elite, which by the way is just media and posters talk, but they definitely played like one when they needed to do that. MSU is not the worst team that we thought they were. So, it has something to do with their team and not necessarily our defense is just plain bad. Let us see how the buckeyes handle MSU.
