OT: What are your favorite fried foods during football season?
I know this is way off topic but I have an honest question to ask. We are contemplating adding fried foods to our menu.
1. What are some of your favorite fried foods?
2. What fried foods would you guys like to see at the football games?
Thank you for responding in advance.

Ice Cream
That shits the bomb.
Doooo it (you need batter though, all you spartans at home don't go just droppin scoops of Ice cream in your deep fryer)
Is there anything better?

Fried pickles and ranch dressing!!

Massive second to fried pickles. Spears, thank you, not chips - both are tasty, but spears maximize the pickle-y happiness.

I'm a HUGE fried pickle fan, but I'll have to disagree on the cut. Chips are where it's at...spears have to high of a pickle-to-breading ratio.
It's why I prefer popcorn chicken to, say, chicken strips: higher breading/fried exterior-to-interior goodness ratio. The fried exterior surface area is key. Hence, I agree: pickles cut into the chip shapes, with ranch dressing. Bonus points for a sort of cucumber ranch, to stick with the veggie theme. The only time I like cucumber ranch is with fried pickes.

Fried pickles are the king of fried foods. The only thing that comes close are fried cheese curds

Some bad-breath onion rings.

Fried battered chicken wings with Frank's Red Hot/melted butter sauce.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
Batter isn't necessary. The Anchor Bar in Buffalo (the Menlo Park Lab of hot wings) insists on just dropping those suckers straight into the oil. Toss with Frank's sauce and serve up hot.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
Yeah, at the restaurant I work at we bake a pan of them partially and then throw them directly in as well. It's really good with quality wings.
Anchor's sauces can be bought bottled in many stores now. Since I visited Anchor Bar in 2000, I've never used any other sauce on my wings. (I prefer the "hot" version.)
Amazing stuff right there, even better with some Tabasco added in.

Fried broccoli...it's healthy!

Old fashion but it tastes awesome....Don't recommend it for a football game though...

Fried mushrooms are pretty fantastic. If you want to please the masses though, I'd just say chicken fingers. They are easy and inoffensive.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:31 AM ^
my Dad and I stopped by your stand and.... AMAZING. Totally worth the wait and was definitely just as good as I was expecting (which is frankly kind of surprising).
Also, so long fried rice! Hello fried chicken!
March 11th, 2010 at 11:32 AM ^
I just pop Tums and pace back and forth.
Post game though: Deep fry whatever you want. That’s why our ancestors came to America in the first place, no?

maybe the rings aren't too good for finger fooding it at a game. I suggest the acceptable substitute, onion chips / petals. Same flavor, almost same taste, more finger food friendly.
But for all out decadence-- fried mac and cheese balls.

Any part of a chicken, deep fried, is good. Whether it be wings or a whole chicken that has been quartered and fried, or even just chicken tenders, its all good. For bonus points, serve with either the previously mentioned Butter + Hot sauce, and/or cheese sauce for the french fries that inevitably accompany this meal of kings.

It's been a while, but I remember fried buckeye tasting pretty good............
March 11th, 2010 at 11:39 AM ^
I've heard they're good, but have never gotten the opportunity to try one.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Never had one until about a year ago... they are truly amazing.

Peppers. It would not be a finger food but my friends' dad hollows out some bell peppers and cuts them into quarters. He then mixes the pepper seeds with sausage and some cheese to make it the consistency of a thick paste. Then dips them in batter and serves them up deep fried. Like I said, not a great finger food because they are decent size and you will need a plate but if you are tailgating for a while they are excellent.

As stated above, Fried pickles are always awesome.
Also fried cheddar curds. Oh yeah.

Wrapped in bacon.

I have my Grandmothers recipe from South Carolina. I'll have to do some testing to see if I can mix the old school with the new. "Buffalo wing sauce". Fried veggies also sound good.

I doubt you'd sell a lot of them since this is the B10, not the SEC, but I love fried okra. They're bite sized, marginally less healthy than, say, a fried Snickers, and taste great.
If you do onion rings, the batter is everything. Personally, I'm partial to batter, as opposed to breading. Beer in the batter is awesome, too. Experiment with kind of onions you use, but something on the slightly sweet side, (like a vidalia) tends to be the best option.
And the southern fried chicken? Dude, I am so there ...

Deep fried Oreos and deep fried Twinkies are delicious. They would be a snack to compliment your menu and would sell out of pure intrigue. I bet they would really create a buzz about your stand on game days.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
Deep fried Nutter Butters are also very good.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
Great idea. Same with deep fried Coca-Cola. People would be so perplexed that they would HAVE to order it.

Fried Zeppole (with oreo in it)

Hot Pockets.

Being from the swamps of Lousiana, I love fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, and softshell crab. Oh, don't forget hush puppies to go with catfish. Man, I can't believe I almost forgot the fried crab fingers!...dang, I'm dying from a heart attack for sure.

it doesn't sound good, but there's this BBQ place down the road from me called "Bone Head's" in Willis (that's a few miles south of Ypsilanti) that serves deep-fried pickles as a substitute for french fries if you want them. They're actually really good.
EDIT: looks like someone already mentioned it. So here's another vote then.
I'm assuming this is the BBQ place that went into the old "pickle barrel" restaurant... if they use the same recipe as the pickle barrel did, they are the best pickle chips I've ever had.
in fact I think on Google maps it's still listed as "The Pickle Barrel."

is I have to pick one thing because I cant have...lets say...fries that taste like Oreos, thats just nasty.
I dunno, man.... you could be on to something.

Immediately thought of grabbing No Thai sweet and spicy chicken and blazing away the loss and hangover that have themed the fall saturdays of the previous two years

The same as the rest of the year. My hatred for my heart doesn't stop on a specific date.
My favorite is onion rings. Damn they're delicious.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
that I don't like fried foods. But if I did, it would be calamari.....! Does tempura count as a fried food?
Has this thing called the Braylon Edwards Sampler with chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and jalapeno poppers with your choice of 2 dressings.
Awesome
Would it be wings, fries or O-rings
Fries
Not fries. Even a "really good fry" is pretty pedestrian. Considering the care you put into your burgers, you need something like great o-rings to go with them, so that would be my choice.
I have no doubt wings would be awesome if you made them, but what to do with the bones? They'd be a pain in the ass. Its one thing to clean up paper, plastic and cups. Its another to see a pile of chicken wing bones growing stale by the fourth quarter under someone's seat. Ick.
