Night of Champions Attendees
Here's who I've talked to so far. I'm still waiting to hear back from a lot of them, fee free to add any names that you have heard.
- WR Deandre Scott, from Maryland will be there. He's bringing one of his teammates, who's only a freshman, with him to check it out. Scott has an offer from CMU, but is hearing from a lot of schools right now.
- Damiere Byrd will NOT be there. He plans on coming up to Michigan on June 5th, instead.
- LB Percy Johnson will NOT be there. He didn't know there was anything going on, which is probably not a good sign. This could change, since I just told him about it, but he's not coming, as of now.
- WR Justin Olack will NOT be there. He didn't know about the event either. He's also talking to his coach about trying to get up there. Might happen, might not. He doesn't have an offer either way.
- Glenville QB Cardale Jones will be there......he's from Glenville.
- Instate DE Brennen Beyer will be there.
- Detroit Crockett ATH Ashton Gaines said he isn't coming for now, unless he can get a ride.
- PA DB Kyshoen Jarrett said he won't be able to make it, unless his family can go. Looks like he won't be there.
- Dulles RB Jarrell Oliver will be there. Same school as Stonum, Woolfolk, and Brandon Herron.
- West Virginia RB Allan Wasonga hasn't decided if he's going to make it up. He'll be a last minute decision as well.
- DE Brad Carrico is thinking about coming up with his best friend, also a Michigan recruit, DE Chris Rock. Both are from Ohio, both really like Michigan. They went to school together until their sophomore year.
- Inkster RB Da'Shawn Bell will be there.
**I Will keep updating the list, as I hear back from more**
UPDATES:
- DT Kevin Williams WILL be there on Saturday. It's good news that he's going to be on campus again.
- Ohio DE Bryan Baird will be there. He doesn't have an offer yet, but is hoping to get one soon. He's 6'4 230 lbs.
- TE Ray Hamilton won't be there, as of now. He's taken his visit, and knows the coaching staff well, so that's not a surprise.
- DE Charles Burks will be at Michigan this weekend. Burks is from Huntington Beach, so it's a big trip for him to make on his own dime.
- Inkster LB Dwight Trammer will be there.
- Commit Delonte Hollowell will NOT be there. He's in Boston for track Nationals with teammate Kishon Wilcher.
- Commit Greg Brown will be there.
- OL Chris Carter will NOT be there. He couldn't find a ride, either.
- OL Matt Skura from Ohio will be there.
- Instate OL Anthony Zettel will NOT be there.
I'd really like to see Percy Johnson make it.
Not to be confused with Percy Jackson, lightning thief.
Percy Jackson = Reggie Cleveland All-Star
Thanks for giving me my fix. You are indeed the man...
How do recruits not know about this? Who is slacking here?

With limited space in this years recruiting class, I don't think they are telling everyone and their brother that they can come.
Also don't forget there is a non-contact period. It seems like we follow this rule, I don't know if the same can be said about other teams.
Because not everyone is invited...
#1. Detroit Crockett ATH Ashton Gaines - I live in Royal Oak and I will give him a ride if he wants one. I'm kind of joking, but not really. The more kids on campus the better. Seriously Tom VH, let him know I'm definitely down for the cause.
#2. DE Chris Rock - Top Priority Recruit in my book. TOP Priority.
...Everybody Hates Chris. But if you say he's a top priority, I'm willing to look beyond the haters.
if chris rock gets hurt, put a little water in the bottle, shake it up...more tussin.
I think that might count as a recruiting violation.

yep it is
$5 for the ride, then it becomes a taxi service.
... drop a $5 bill on the ground outside said taxi.
Don't report us.

Edit
I don't have any idea how I got a double post??
I tried to preview; nothing showed up, so I hit "save". Hmmm?
Anyway there was supposed to be a picture of some crazy bus that didn't show up either, so here it is.
I'm pretty sure that would be a recruiting violation unless you already had a preexisting relationship with him.
Da Freep would have a field day if Mgoblog started a shuttle service for recruits to Ann Arbor.
Here come the MgoBuses get on board!!
I know it's a recruiting violation, but...
Let's assume that I just like to pick up hitch-hikers and by coincidence I just happen to see him Hitch - Hiking. Would it still be a recruiting violation if I drove him to Ann Arbor, and just by coincidence, dropped him off at Schembechler Hall?
I really just like to help people out.

Midwives help people out.
Tom, what do the kids typically do at events like this? 7 on 7 drills? Basic athletic skill assessments? Team building exercises?
They don't do anything like that. It's just meet and greet, and touring the facilities.
The Night of Champions is olympic style events and competition, but from my understanding, it's not the recruits that are competing.
Recruits do not compete at all. The "Night of Champions" stuff is really about current UM players but the recruits are there, meaning they intertwine and give the recruits something really fun to watch.

I'm wondering who the best curlers on the team would be.
Twister and Balderdash are the top two choices of activities, although the occasional recruit prefers Trouble.
I heard Jeremy Gallon giggles uncontrollably at the pop-o-matic bubble.

I was hoping for trust falls... have you seen those Big Ten Fan Camp commercials? Classic.
Have you seen the Tosh.0 where he goes around doing random trust falls to complete strangers? Pretty funny
Does anybody (NOLA Blue?) have thoughts on how important these events are? As in, how often does it mean no-go if a coveted recruit can't find a ride, and how often does it maybe mean he had other things going on but still longs to don the winged helmet? I just want to make sure that I over-react to the whims and life circumstance of young children to the proper extent. I will now go take my old man relax pills. Thanks.

I have spent hours looking for clinical evidence, but to no avail. I was of the opinion that every recruit, man, woman and child at least secretly desired to wear the winged helmet. Such would explain so much of the angst of our opponents and their fans... and my recurring dreams of Bo asking me "What the hell are you doing on my practice field?!"
Sounds like a mission for the MGoCreeper Van and the gang!
I hope the staff can make a good impression on Charles Burks. Not only is he a very solid player, but it would also clear the stench from losing Parker. We have to reestablish connections in California.
I really hope he makes it out there as well. Living in Orange County I like seeing CA kids play for Michigan.
He's leaving tomorrow. He'll be there.
Our family values might suffer but we'd be real funny .
The question:
Are high profile events like this Night of Champions the kind of thing that cause Sam Webb, Allen Trieu, Helmholdt and Trieu to put on their gold-encrusted fanny packs and break out their YSL jorts?
Or, because a number of high profile 16 and 17 year olds have decided not to show up, do they just break out their Lions Zubaz and Vuarnet t-shirts instead?
We need to get D Hart there
March 11th, 2010 at 10:02 AM ^
From what I've read on other sites, that certainly is not happening.
March 11th, 2010 at 10:19 AM ^
why don't you call him and invite him?
March 11th, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
I was a bit surprised by the number of players Tom listed that were unaware of the event. I don't really understand how that is possible. This doesn't sound like an invite-only event, but maybe it is. I would have thought "the more the merrier."
Just struck me as odd.
March 11th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
He listed only TWO that didn't know - Percy Johnson and Justin Olack.
Neither have Michigan offers.
Deduce what you need to from these two facts.
March 11th, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
K. Williams, C. Jones, B. Beyer and A. Zettel (if he shows) have to be the top 4 targets that are going to show. Getting one to verbal would be great.
? for TomVH... Does Michigan make public the results of the event? i.e. Tate benched 185lbs 17x, Will Campbell powercleaned 350lbs and Mike Martin turned green. I know classroom performance is also part of the event but wouldn't expect that to be released.
thx
Have you heard anything about Kent Turene lately? Are the coaches still in contact with him? Is an offer imminent, or are they waiting to get a feel for others first? Thanks.
March 11th, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
He texts me quite a bit. He really wants a Michigan offer, I know that. He doesn't know if/when they're going to offer.
April 15th is when evaluation period starts, so everyone will know more after that.
Hope it goes well and we impress the recruits that come.
