Chance at #1 Recruiting Class in '17?
Steve Wiltfong of 247 thinks it is possible-

That would be fantastic and probably mean we finish extremely strong

As long as it's top-5, that's all that really matters in the grand scheme.
October 19th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
Matters for what? If we finish 6th then panic? Is finishing top-5 the only way to win a title? If so, then you're right.
If top-5 is all that matters then why don't the services just state, "Here are the top 5 classes in no particular order," and label everyone else the AYOs? Maybe finishing in the top-5 is all that matters to YOU, but that statement is pretty unsound.
October 19th, 2016 at 11:40 AM ^
Outside the top-5 would be disappointing right now because it would mean we'd miss on some of the big guys we're in on.
October 19th, 2016 at 12:04 PM ^
there is a lot of research showing that a top 5 recruiting class correlated to contending for a national title...so it would be disappointing and it does matter -- if you want to constistanty contend for a title...
October 19th, 2016 at 2:10 PM ^
For argument's sake, can we probably bet that a top-6 recruiting class is also correlated to contending for a national title?
I think the dude's point was that being "up there" is important, but arbitrary cut offs shouldn't worry us.
But maybe the difference between 5 and 6 is statistically significant. I can't imagine it is super significant, but I admit to my ignorance on this one.

please.
October 19th, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
No, you're right. I just meant in general I guess and wasn't applying to to this class in particular...which is what the OP mention. My bad.

Why ya gotta be a dick about it?
October 19th, 2016 at 11:52 AM ^
He is probably not married, so he doesn't know he is being a dick. No man really knows that he marries a personality instructor, until it's too late.
October 19th, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
hahaha. I know this isn't the subject of the thread but this resonated with me. I'm not married but every girlfriend I've ever had fits that description. I always learn, through them, that I'm being a dick I had no idea!

If you only knew my last couple of days, and this is after I spent my Saturday afternoon at an apple orchard picking apples and pumpkins. Does anyone really enjoy that?
October 19th, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
Why, yes, I enjoy these things very much. At least this is what I've been told by my personality instructor.
October 19th, 2016 at 1:26 PM ^
I like being out in the fresh air with my kids trying to find the right pumpkin and eating apples while picking them. Then going and getting donuts and cider. It's not the most exciting thing to do, but I do find it to be fun. It also is coupled with a nice fall drive, which I really like. Driving through the fall colors on back roads.
October 19th, 2016 at 2:47 PM ^
This. All of this. And that. But mostly this.
Apple orchards and pumpkin patches are fun for kids and adults. You get to eat and drink and be outside during fall.

I moved to Texas 2 years ago. I went to an apple orchard every year to buy unpasuterized cider when I lived in Michigan. It was awesome, and I miss it very much. I bought some "cider" from Sams Club last week and it was rank, spoiled in the Southern heat...
So, Yes.
October 20th, 2016 at 9:57 AM ^
When I moved to Texas from the midwest my Mom used to freeze real apple cider and overnight it to me. Glad I'm back in the land of real apple cider.

Errand Run Timer - Ain't that the truth. I told my wife that I'm likely going to die rushing on my way back from an errand "taking too long". That's how much she needles me about how long my errands take. Yet I'm oblivious to how long she's gone and don't particularly care despite having the kids during her errands (and sometimes during mine). SMDH.

The cabal of posters that insists on tearing down anything WD posts is a sad lot.
October 19th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
Resistance is futile. We are legion.
October 19th, 2016 at 1:03 PM ^
It had nothing to do with who posted it. I appreciate much of what he brings to the board and am not in the anti-WD camp. I looked at the post in a general way, not one specific to this year, which was my mistake.
October 19th, 2016 at 1:10 PM ^
My mistake, sorry about that.
October 19th, 2016 at 1:14 PM ^
I got lumped in with that camp last week. I actually like WD a lot, but if somebody says something wonky, I'll say something; I don't really care who it is. I've taken issue with a few things Brian has written too, for that matter.
October 19th, 2016 at 2:35 PM ^
treating him like a 12 year old instead of like a 19 year old who can defend himself, is a sad lot.

drinking thread?
October 19th, 2016 at 12:57 PM ^
It wasn't intentional. I was thinking more from a year-to-year basis, not specific to this year. That was my oversight.
Not sure why posters always assume negative intentions and resort to name calling instead pointing of flaws in thought or asking for clarifications...it's so uplifting.
October 19th, 2016 at 5:02 PM ^
Because it's the Internet... Sadly. I'd call you a whiney B**** but i'm afraid you'd kick my ass. Oh wait, anonymity. Bitch!
That sort of thing.
October 19th, 2016 at 6:04 PM ^
But we're all on the same team here, are we not? If it was an all B1G forum then sure, I get it. But to be an ass to someone who is probably freakishly supportive of the program seems counterproductive.
