Week 7: Best thing you saw...

Submitted by mi93 on

What nearly ended up with being the fans of the clear #2 team in the land didn't end up quite so, but a very entertaining week.

- Tennesse (and Ole Miss) finally gets the door shut on them as pretender

- NC State and Wisc nearly pulled off upsets (as did Indiana)

- Sparty goes down again

- Ohio looks mortal, as does Clemson

The best things for me this week, though, are:

- the safety by Northwestern - one of the best, cleanest hits on a QB you'll ever see, and with tremendous authority as MSU's QB was horizontal immediately after the hit - the definition of a 'de-cleater'

- this article... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/16/sports/ncaafootball/houston-cougars-t… ... coaching, like leadership, at every level is about teaching and caring; winning is only a result, of good teaching and building believers amongst the team, the team, the team...the article struck an interesting chord with me

What you got?

Best thing this week? How about Brian Kelly going home tonight and thinking about his job status, and D'antonio actually having a reason for being permanently unhappy.

While I revel in sparty pain. It's going to take more than one bad season for me to think MSU is back to being perpetually on shit end of the Big Ten stick. Until I see Dantonio crying in the fetal position on the sideline he's still very much a threat in the conference. Hopefully that day is not far off.

1) Resting and getting healthy

2) Preparing for future opponents (Don Brown watching OSU video 23.5 hours each day)

3) Harbaugh going on a recruiting tour

4) Most important! - No injuries!!!!

I know its a running joke because we don't play anyone, but the bye week can be huge for the rest of the season's momentum and there is a way to actually win it.

That Northwestern game was juicy. I think I'd rather have Sparty going into the game with us confident but hearing them booing their own team and bailing on this season is good too.

Gotta start with:

Sparties and Domers going down AGAIN. That this has become a weekly event is even more delicious. Sparty gave up 54 to a NW team I'm confident we would shut out.

- NC State and Wisky near misses. Both ended in disappointing fashion, but made for compelling watching.

- ACC pretenders Miami and Va Tech go down. I like upsets. ACC looked BAD this week.

- Ole Miss suffered their 3rd loss, and TN got curb-stomped.  Of course, that means Bert and Nick got big wins, so I suppose that's a push.

- Colorado wiped the floor with AZ St. Had they beaten USC last week, they might be in top 15.

- Western!  Eastern! Central!  Didn't see their games, but good to see the Michigan directionals reppin'.

- Cubs win! OT, I know.

Was that when the ref slapped a 15 yard penalty on Urban?  I cannot believe no one has said this yet.  For those that didn't watch it, the ref literally slapped Urban in the face on the sideline while signaling the clock was still running.  I need someone to photoshop Charlie Murphy as Rick James into it.

MSU is in full meltdown mode. The RCMB is calling for the firing of basically every coordinator and position coach. Nevermind these are the same ones minus Narduzzi after 2013 that got them the Rose Bowl in 2013, 11-2 in 2014, and with a lot of luck the CFP last year. Something's rotten up in East Lansing.

They're in full meltdown mode, but that also means they're going to play like mad dogs with nothing to lose in the Michigan game.

Dantonio is going to empty his playbook for that game, and you know Sparty is going to be a different team that day. We'll have a you game on our hands.

This is absurd. They're going to get blown off the line on both sides of the ball on every play. And there's no playbook to be emptied. They've tried everything already and have been god awful at all of it. Rutgers might seriously be the only team in the conference that's worse right now.

Do you really think a team with a lot of marginal players are all of a sudden going to get really good for one week?  The table is set for a game that mirrors our old weak teams against their very good teams.  They kicked our ass then and we will kick their ass in two weeks.  This game will not be close.
