OT: Charlie Strong held some sort of emergency team meeting and allowed players to air their grievances

Submitted by FrankMurphy on

They've definitely had serious locker room issues since Strong's tenure began. Interesting strategy for turning things around. Let's see if it lights a fire under his team and helps him save his job.

No word on whether or not feats of strength were performed.

sparking for a few more months so we can scoop up the Texas talent this cycle. Trying to get top talent out of that state when UT has a pulse seems pert'near hopeless

I was under the impression that Texas has basically indicated he's gone, but that could be me misremembering things. He's the Texas version of Rich Rod in many ways and it's not surprising to see him out after three years if that's what happens. It's a warning to power 5 coaches: these moves are too lateral to justify the risk. If things are working at Louisville or West Virginia and you're winning 10+ games a year, don't move.

I think calling Strong the Texas version of Rich Rod is a great comparison.  But, I can't believe many people would agree that Louisville to Texas and West Virginia to Michigan are lateral moves.  They're all power 5 schools, but that's about where the comparisons end.

Not lateral moves exactly, but also not big enough improvements to justify the risk. You can recruit pretty well at many of the p5 schools and my guess is that recruiting isn't the problem for Strong at Texas. His problem is culture to some extent (he demands discipline and many players fled), and when everyone doesn't buy in you have to win a lot very quickly. Not everyone can turn around a program like that.
