OT: Favorite pizza in Ann Arbor

Submitted by karpodiem on

Past midnight? NYPD.

Any other time though, Anthony's Gourmet is pretty amazing.

Carryout special as well - extra cheese + garlic break accompanied by Cherry Coke.

Most underrated pizza (and therefore deal) on campus.

I always enjoyed a Bell's pizza if for nothing else than to have a pizza and myself delivered to north campus late night after a night on the town.

is terrible, in my opinion. I really think backroom is the way to go, even when you're completely sober at 3pm. Bell's, though, too is really good.

I've got a particular soft spot for bells as I had the good fortune to run into Sam Sword after our 97 victory over OSU. the least I could do was treat him to a meatball sub and exchange several high fives and 'Woooos!'

highlight of my bell's career.

It's new, but South U pizza is the best cheap pizza on campus. For those who haven't tried it, I suggest you do. It blows NYPD and Backroom out of the water.

Yeah, Faz passed away. If I recall correctly, there was a thread about Faz a couple of years ago, and his nephew posted on here confirming his passing and thanking everyone for the well-wishes.

But the OP mirrors my tastes pretty well. I'll throw in as chain pizza goes, I like Marcos, when across town or office delivery.

In my first year and a half I have done a horrible job getting around to the local eateries...

I have, however, been to Pizza Bob's following a hockey game, and that was some pretty good pizza.

Yep. It's me, that annoying kid from out east that whines about the quality of pizza in the midwest. No pizza really compares to a legitimate NY slice, but when push comes to shove I will order from Pizza Pino. The buffalo chicken pizza is, to this day, the best I've had in this town. It's out of the way, though, so walking isn't an option unless you want to trek down Liberty past Main.

If we're talking inebriated eats, then it's Back Room. Unless I'm on the way back from Skeeps, as NYPD will fall directly in my path.

Lambardi's, Grimaldi's, Johns, as well as a number of other hole in the wall places I can't remember. I never got to DiFara's so maybe I missed the #1 joint in city. Like I said, those places were absolutely delicious and I have no complaints about them.

That being said I'd take a pie from Giordano's, Gino's and Lou's in Chicago over any of the places I went to in NYC. Even the next level down of Chicago's Pizza could stand toe to toe with many of the NYC places.

However, it is tough to compare since they're so different. To each his own.

I have yet to find Chicago pizza that comes anywhere close to the pizza I had in Brooklyn years ago...of course, maybe my memories of that pizza are tainted by large amounts of alcohol, but...

And I really hate getting ribbed for asking pizza establishments in Chicago to pie-cut my pizza. Not a fan of square-shaped pieces of pizza.

I'm relieved somebody else pointed out the obvious. I was shocked when I started reading this thread that this wasn't the consensus.

If we're talking late night, stumbling drunk, grab a few slices to tide you over on the walk home, then I think Backroom is the hands-down winner. I'm prepared to believe it's also delicious when you're sober, but I've never tried it in that condition.

papa romanos all corners pizza is the best in town. i would like to take this time to say that pizza house is shitty because they charge so much for toppings to offset the amount they spent decorating the place. waaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive for just better than average pizza
