Crisis averted? Hurricane Matthew to stay south...maybe
Good news. Latest forecast cone from NOAA has Hurricane Matthew slowing down and taking a turn east at the Carolinas. If it follows this path, it shouldn't pose a problem for Saturday's 7 p.m. kick in Piscataway. Fingers crossed.

Not sure if it was even a hurricane when it made impact but I take your point, these storms do run up the coast in the mid to late fall but usually become a tropical cyclone by the time they make it up there to the cooler air. At any rate, it's a rainmaker at that point, if you live in a flood zone you 've got problems. If you don't, it's a windy rain storm

I heard from a coworker they pretty much shut down the whole state and encouraged people in Columbia to stay home so that the highways would be clear for people evacuating. Pretty great planning if you ask me. My coworkers' daughter is coming up from Columbia to VA since she has the rest of the week off work.

I too live in SC in Lexington. I was in Marion up until last night which is part of the evacuation zone, with the evacuation to take place today I decided it was a good time to head home, was supposed to be there until tonight. Nothing but campers and RV's on the way home last night and gas stations were packed out. No school here the rest of the week as our schools are evacuation centers.

Matthew isn't slowing down as much as the slow moving storm isn't traveling at the speed upon which the models are predicated.
And while it may be good news for the mid-Atlantic states and points north, the south Atlantic states, or at least FL, are going to be hammered even worse.

It really does seem like they have no idea where hurricanes will actually go. It seems like they are predicting the curvature continues and then it followes the coastline, but it took a right turn in the Carribean so who knows?

Also, I wonder if they generally lean towards predicting it will come ashore vs. staying out at sea. If they predict it will stay out at sea, nobody will prepare and if it did turn that could be really bad. Nobody is upset if they prepare and then it doesn't hit.

The reason they don't know where they'll head is because hurricanes are made up by the chinese government as a way to subtley attack us.
It's the more extreme version of their "global warming" hoax.

The eye will pass at 2am Friday. Wind and rain bands begin tonight. Worst of the wind will be late afternoon tomorrow. Hopefully the damage is minimal, but I think this one is going to hurt.
