All of Our Vanquished Foes Won Yesterday

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

We've celebrated Colorado's big win yesterday, and their ascension into the rankings for the first time since 2005, I believe. It's also noteworthy that all of our other defeated foes won yesterday - Hawaii over Nevada (38-17), UCF and Jerk Store owner Scott Frost over East Carolina (47-29) and Penn State over Minnesota (29-26).

Colorado is 4-1, UCF is 3-2 and even Hawaii is 2-3. So maybe our non-conference schedule wasn't as bad as everyone thought.

Who's everyone?  Our OOC foes were better than probably half of our peers many of whom were playing multiple MAC or equivalent foes.  I would point to many of the SEC schools as an example.  OSU also had, I think, a more inferior OOC lineup.

Are we arguing that Hawaii and UCF were good? WKU is not so bad, btw. We played all of ours at home too. Colorado may turn out to be pretty good, but it'll still be a surprise if they're better than those teams I mentioned. From a scheduling perpsective, all of those schools ere trying to schedule one very tough game. It's hard to point at our slate and criticize them.

USC might be the most canny bit of scheduling. For some idiotic reason they seem to start the season ranked but rarely spend the entire season there.

USC might be the biggest preseason rankings whiff of the last 8 years.  Remember that year they opened the season ranked 1 ahead of Bama and finished the season somewhere in the 70’s?

at least some of them looked better than we thought. Colorado was underrated. UCF looks like a team that will get better as they go (and no, not every team does). Hawaii...Penn State... still kind of suck on different levels lol

Not to hijack your thread but we sure didn't hear a lot from Rashan Gary yesterday. I'm guessing it was directly related to the talent he was lining up against. Did he get a lot of snaps? More? Less?
