OT: Wild MLB wild card
tigers 0.5 games back with 2ish games left.
lots of scenarios in play

Just when I think they're/I'm out they pull me back in
September 30th, 2016 at 11:17 PM ^
i can't remember such an up and down season. honestly the fitting end would be losing monday to miss the playoffs. let's hope for a reverse.

Will Cleveland even risk playing their starters or a pitcher in the rotation?

they could be playing for home field
September 30th, 2016 at 11:22 PM ^

Texas has that secured for the whole playoffs.
October 1st, 2016 at 4:30 AM ^
But Cleveland could secure it for the Boston series
October 1st, 2016 at 9:13 AM ^
These teams think setting up their rotation is more important than home field. Kluber got a 7-10 day projected quad injury in the Tiger series. I believe They had another injured starter. They may not start a big name just for home field.
October 1st, 2016 at 6:39 AM ^
Go Tigers! Strange after 161 games give or take, they are a 1/2 a game back with 2 ish to go....
September 30th, 2016 at 11:18 PM ^
Tigers are going to have to win out. They looked great today. They're finally healthy and peaking at the right time. That make up game vs Cleveland could be the decider and I wish that wasn't the case.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:20 PM ^
tigers might have to win monday AND game 163 tuesday. then play wildcard game wednesday with alds starting friday

For example, say the Jays, Orioles, and Tigers are tied after 162 games. Then
- Sun @Atl
- Mon home vs Clev
- Tue @Balt (I believe Jays get a bye)
- Wed @Tor for WIldcard game
- Thurs @ALDS opponent (Tex, Bos, or Clev)
September 30th, 2016 at 11:53 PM ^
The Wild Card playoff winner has to play the ALDS the next day? That's crazy.
October 1st, 2016 at 12:52 AM ^
they drop from exhaustion.
October 1st, 2016 at 5:41 AM ^
It's scheduled for Tues / Thurs but the potential ties bunch it all up

That my MgoTiger fans is a tall order.....
September 30th, 2016 at 11:21 PM ^
And the other 2 games are against Atlanta
so we definitely are not in bad shape
win out and the worst we do is play Toronto for the 2nd WC tie-breaker
Fullmer would start Monday - not sure who would start if we play Tuesday
October 1st, 2016 at 12:05 AM ^
I wouldn't rule out Ausmus starting Pelfrey. I'm kidding, kinda.
October 1st, 2016 at 7:45 AM ^
Matt Boyd. Fulmer on Monday, so he's out. JV on Sunday, so that's not an option. Norris pitched last night, so he'd only be on. 3 days rest and Zimmermann's going today. It would almost defintely be Boyd.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:23 PM ^
I would imagine cleveland's decision whom to pitch Monday will be depending on if they can overtake Boston for 2nd seed. If they can't...look for them to pitch their best AAA pitcher.

Given the Streakey McStreakersons' (aka the Tigers) habit of making rookie and replacement level starters look like Cy Young, we'd be DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMEEEDDD!
Hopefully, they have one more winning streak in them; 16 more wins would be nice.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:26 PM ^
Can never get enough mlb in early October as the heart of cfb kicks in. Or perhaps you can. To each his own. ( Stanford qb sacked again as I type )
Beat Wisconsin
September 30th, 2016 at 11:24 PM ^
Please Tigers beat out Baltimore....so all these fucking Orioles fans around me will STFU up.
That and it will be much easier for me to drive to Fells Point for brunch if the Orioles aren't playing anymore.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:27 PM ^
i'd rather play baltimore than toronto in the dome, you'll get more glory out of a wild car win anyway
September 30th, 2016 at 11:28 PM ^
Gotta consider the 'Ira droning on about how he is from Baltimore' factor though. Insufferable.
October 1st, 2016 at 7:47 AM ^
Listening to him interrupt Sam non-stop is bad, but it's even worse when he hosts on his own.
September 30th, 2016 at 11:28 PM ^
Enjoy your brunch. Hoping if you force a game #163 it's against Toronto!!!! Let's go O's!!!!

are Roarin'!!!
September 30th, 2016 at 11:47 PM ^
Doesn't help that Baltimore has won 6 of 7, including 3 in the 9th inning or later.

Jays are in free fall. Sox will end them.

The Indians have already announced it'll be a bullpen game if they play on Monday.
October 1st, 2016 at 12:21 AM ^
A flat out beast. Unbelievable hitter. It looks like he really doesn't want to miss the playoffs. Verlander has been lights out.
October 1st, 2016 at 12:58 AM ^
I'm not the most knowledgeable baseball fan, but seems like there aren't many players as clutch as miggy. And jeter, obviously. But who else has been so clutch for such a long time? Can't be more than 5 players in recent years. We're so lucky to have him

Ortiz is the only position player that comes to mind.
October 1st, 2016 at 4:42 AM ^
Respectfully, in my book, Ortiz has never been a "position" player.....
October 1st, 2016 at 9:38 AM ^
Should have stuck with hitter.
October 1st, 2016 at 2:37 AM ^
is one. Nelson Cruz as well.
October 1st, 2016 at 9:06 AM ^
Nelson Cruz has that Pact with Satan going for him. I don't normally root for career ending injuries, but I make an exception in his case.
October 1st, 2016 at 12:35 AM ^
I am rooting for Orioles and Blue Jays to loose the next two and tigers to win the next two. If that happens, would Tigers even play the makeup game?
October 1st, 2016 at 1:12 AM ^
Yes they would have to play Monday. Under your scenario the Tigers (if they won all 3) would either host the Orioles OR the winner of a 1 game playoff between Orioles and Mariners (if Seattle wins their last two games against Oakland). Fun...Fun stuff. I'm just hoping Orioles win tomorrow afternoon/evening and Toronto loses. That wraps up Wild Card game at Camden Yards and whether it be Tigers, Blue Jays, or Mariners....I'll be there.

Pretty exciting indeed. Hope Tigers beat up on ATL the next two games
October 1st, 2016 at 4:40 AM ^
That game doesn't just depend on the wild card results. If it affects the Indians home field advantage race, it still has to be played
October 1st, 2016 at 7:25 AM ^
Thanks.
October 1st, 2016 at 1:09 AM ^
If we have to play a tiebreaker Tuesday, and we win, any chance Verlander throws on 2 days rest for the wild card game on Wed? I'm a fan but definitely not a baseball guru. Who would we be pitching in that scenario?

Sure, if you want to lose.
Two days rest? Really? Dude isn't exactly young anymore.
October 1st, 2016 at 1:17 AM ^
Just a question, sir. I'm a football/basketball guy. I don't know. That's why I asked

Typical rest period for a starter is 5 days. Short rest in playoff scenarios is usually 3-4 days.
I remember back in 2008 when the Brewers traded for Sabathia they ran him ragged the last month of the season trotting him out on 4 days rest three straight times. He the got hammered in their playoff game against Philly.
