The real question is why would the AD make Les look like a high performing, in demand coach the same week he is shitcanned? Wouldn't they want to provide evidence that he is bad instead?? Edit: missed the "former" part of AD's title

It would be the best possible hire they could make.  I'm hoping that Miles doesn't want to have anything to do with that shithole, but if he were to take that job PSU could become a real threat again in short order (provided he doesn't bring Cam with him).

I would be surprised to see Les take a job in the B1G East, and have to face UM every year, plus OSU and MSU.  Really surprised.

Instead, I'd hope Purdue is rounding up every last dollar they can find to see what they can do to get the Mad Hatter to West Lafayette.  They might be too much of a reclamation project for him, but that would be a brilliant hire for them.  Get him into the midwest, get some attention to that program, and in a division where he'd have a better chance at succeeding.

I'm pretty sure this was known/assumed. Didn't we track Brandon's plane to Baton Rouge during the coaching search? Also, there were confirmed reports of Brandon meeting with Miles and his wife at a popular resturant down there.

I remember Brian later posting a pic of Brandon boarding a plane at Willowrun with the tail number visible. It was the same tail number of the plane we had been tracking, which Brandon denied he was aboard. That sunuvabich.

Maybe Miles turned down the job because he knew Brandon was a dickbag and didn't want to work for him.  That seemed to continue through to the Harbaugh hire - that good coaching candidates with ties to UM didn't want to work for Brandon.

Dave Brandon likes to say things which, on the surface, make Dave Brandon look smart, clever, and in control. And by the time you take 30 seconds to realize, "hey, not only does that not make sense, even if it were true it just makes you crazy", he's already gone with a lot of your money. It's the mark of a supreme bullshit artist. We've all worked with one. He will make a statement or claim of success very confidently, and by the time anyone proves him wrong he's already been rewarded.

before Harbaugh's hire, there were Michigan reps sent to talk with Les. We know the story behind the story of the first apparent effort to hire Les away from LSU before RichRod's eventual hire, less illuminating was the second apparent effort to land him as coach.

As others have mentioned, there were plane trips to Louisiana tracked on the site, but on the record, Brandon never ackknowledged that Miles was ever offered the job. However, there was a flurry of activity in Baton Rouge by Michigan just prior to the official announceent that Hoke had been hired to replace RR.

At the time, the official line was that Michigan had simply consulted with Miles and never formally offered him the job. Miles reportedly told Michigan that he would always consider taking the job if offered. But after the Louisiana subterfuge both sides claimed there was never an official offer on the table.

What do you mean "track"? He was screaming he was in Baton Rouge, flying in on a plane with a maize-and-blue winged nose. That overt display is why I still doubt Miles was offered. I know Brandon was an idiot but if it was a sincere overture, it would have been discreet. He was trying to placate the Miles faction. "See, I'm here! Can't say I didn't try!!!"
