PFF: Top 10 True Freshman after Week 4 (Rashan Gary makes appearance)
3. Rashan Gary, Edge, Michigan 81.7
Adding Gary to an already-loaded defensive line seemed unfair for Michigan and Gary has already shown why he was so highly touted. He’s cracked the defensive line rotation with 136 snaps, fifth-most on the team, doing his best work in the run game at 87.4 while picking up two sacks, three QB hits, and six hurries on 73 pass rushes. His 13.3 pass rush productivity leads all true freshmen edge rushers.

Other notables:
1. Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson 83.8
2. Ed Oliver, DT, Houston 82.0

Updated, thanks.

Thanks. I want to read about the other 9 guys, too.

Ya usually would have put the link in but just overlooked it before submitting.

Seems unfair? I dunno, I think it seems totally fair. Maybe not even fair enough!

What does D-line depth look like next year?
Gary, Hurst, Mone, Marshall...Dwumfor...Winovich... who else am I missing?
Should I be worried about depth? I'm a little worried about depth.

*on whom
September 28th, 2016 at 11:21 AM ^
To whom.
September 28th, 2016 at 11:35 AM ^
What do you mean?
Aren't we talking about on what one should shit? Not 'to where.'
Anyway, 'on _____' is a prepositional phrase, so it should be 'on him,' 'on her,' 'on whom,' 'on me,' as opposed to 'on she,' 'on he,' 'on who,' and 'on I.'
September 28th, 2016 at 10:18 AM ^
I like the idea of him as a space/person eater but with Breden and Kalis leaving that means a couple open guard spots.
Bredeson goes to LG or kicks out to RT, that could mean 2 open spots at OG.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:21 AM ^
OL-
LT- Newsome
LG- Bredeson
C- Cole
RG- Dawson
RT- JBB
September 28th, 2016 at 10:53 AM ^
That line does not excite me at this point. I think Kugler may factor in there.
September 28th, 2016 at 1:25 PM ^
The left side of that line is going to be ridiculous. RG will be a battle between 2 rs Srs, and RT also will have competition between JBB ( who has gotten praise from Harbaugh) and Ulizio. I think the line is going to be good, plus it'll be the 3rd year with Drevno
September 28th, 2016 at 12:45 PM ^
Here is my guess.
LT- Newsome
LG- Bredeson
C- Cole
RG- Kugler
RT- JBB

We need to clone Onwenu. Think about it nearly 750 pounds of lineman.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:09 AM ^
He is really starting to dominate. He may not be around next year.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:13 AM ^
You shut up!
I am starting to be terrified of next season. I've given up hope of Jabrill coming back but we better not lose Hurst and/or Cole.
September 28th, 2016 at 11:19 AM ^
Nah, he looked pretty slow going around those Penn State offensive lineman. No lateral movement or quickness of any kind. Still needs another year.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:19 AM ^
WDE- Winovich/ Kemp
DT- Hurst/ Dwumfour
NT- Mone / Onwenu
SDE- Gary/ Marshall

Sprinkle in true freshman as needed.

and baby, you've got a stew going!
/sry, I just had to.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:30 AM ^
Ron Johnson will be in that mix as well.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:36 PM ^
Carlo Kemp as well

What if they all go Pro? Then we should worry.

About 95% of the time, we'd be hyping a starting line of Gary/Hurst/Mone/Winovich as devastating, regardless of their backups. We've just been spoiled the last two seasons.
September 28th, 2016 at 11:02 AM ^
Don't know....just trying to enjoy the present with this team.
Personally, don't think it's as terrifying as some believe. There's also the Johnsons, Kemp and true freshman next year. It's not going to be the world beaters that we have now, but we have never had this much depth in memory. Anyways, I trust the coaching staff is attuned to future depth needs. Can't imagine Harbaugh is light on details in this respect

There is a reasonable chance that Hurst is gone after this year.
September 28th, 2016 at 9:59 AM ^
Very interesting that the top 2 are DTs, when that position is one of the hardest for freshmen to have an impact.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:04 AM ^
Is it? I would have thought OL, QB and LB would be a lot tougher to learn.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:26 AM ^
The learning isn't as tough as the physical requirements of the position. Standing up to college level double teams is not easy to do, especially as a freshman where you are likely undersized or have bad weight.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:30 AM ^
he's been lining up at end and not DT but I see your point.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:35 AM ^
The top two guys are playing the DT position, is his point.

The simplest explanation would be that PFF grades aren't perfectly calibrated and may not be great for comparing across position groups (e.g. Brian's UFR where DL always have higher magnitude games than LBs).
September 28th, 2016 at 10:05 AM ^
Way to go Gary!
Has anyone thought about how crazy good this DL would be if Willie Henry came back for his senior season? Unreal.
September 28th, 2016 at 10:14 AM ^
I don't think anyone has ever thought that..
September 28th, 2016 at 10:57 AM ^
Henry is palying himself into the top 2 rounds, easily.
September 28th, 2016 at 11:08 AM ^
What? You do realize he's already gone?

Don't kow where that came from
September 28th, 2016 at 10:56 AM ^
I didn't see Nick Bosa anywhere on that list? Didn't Buckeye's say they would take him over Gary, 7 days a week and twice on Sundays?
September 28th, 2016 at 11:11 AM ^
They constantly said that and the fact that Nick Bosa was going to come in better than his brother.......Delusional!!
