early game day morning/can't sleep thread
I went to bed around 10:30 simply so I could get more sleep, but of course it did not work. I started awaking around 3AM, dozed off a few times here and there, and then about twenty minutes ago, I just said "screw it" and got out of bed. It's a beautiful morning here in Manhattan. Michigan football starts in nine hours and Above & Beyond Group Therapy 200 starts in eight-and-a-half hours. I have double excitement, which is the likely reason I cannot sleep.
Anyone else having trouble sleeping? Dare I say, "what are you drinking?"

Using a sound machine has really helped my son sleep all night.

What sound machine are you using?
September 24th, 2016 at 8:50 AM ^
"Welcome to the Machine."
Can never go wrong with The Floyd.

Use Above & Beyond's music.

I started having a lot of trouble sleeping, starting in my mid-40s. Bought a sound/noise machine on E-bay for like $25...BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT. Recommend everyone who has trouble sleeping - get one today.

She won't love her sleep after the baby. Goes the same for you. Congratulations.

If she's anything like my wife expect to get into ridiculous fights due to lack of sleep. It all gets better, but that first year is rough. Best job in to world though, congrats!!

buy it, read it, follow it. you're welcome.

Run, fast. Jokes aside, have some nights out before the baby arrives and within the first 3-4 months after the baby comes (or however long after birth s/he will sleep in her car seat). Also, sleep training can work.
September 24th, 2016 at 7:29 AM ^
For me or the baby???
September 24th, 2016 at 8:06 AM ^
The baby - DO IT!!! When you put him/her to bed for the night, kiss and say goodnight, then walk out and close the door. Kid will scream bloody murder for a while, but will eventually learn to go to bed/sleep on his/her (is this a boy or a girl?) own, without you having to stay and lay in bed with him.
DO IT!!! LET THE KID SCREAM! Becuase if you don't, if mommy can't take it, you will be laying with that kid until he falls asleep for years. YEARS, I tell you! He will not remember that you just left the room. He will not remember the screaming. He will not remember the stories you read him each night. LEAVE THE ROOM!!!!!!!
By now, you know how I know this... And congratulations!!

at day care. Hug, kiss, turn on your heel and walk away, no matter the protest. Day care folks will tell you the same thing.

We found a routine was the best for us, granted we had twins but I think it still would have been good for just one. It just made the day go smoother.
September 24th, 2016 at 10:36 AM ^
Advice? Don't have twins.

My 1-year-old let us sleep until 630. Usually she is up daily at 530 so I didn't know what to do with myself
September 24th, 2016 at 10:03 AM ^
I guess I didn't realize how lucky I am. I have a 1 and 3 year old that go to bed at 7:30 and sleep until 8 the next morning usually.

It's 6:45am here. I'm just trying to relax. I start drinking beer at noon on gameday. 42-14 is my prediction. Go Blue!

Running in the Chadtough 5k today. It's my first organized race ever and I've got some butterflies going on. I have no idea what a respectable time is so I'm just hoping to not embarrass myself.
September 24th, 2016 at 7:05 AM ^
Run the first half as though you plan to run the second half faster. Build up throughout the race. Your butterflies will be gone at the half way mark for sure

If you can beat 25:20 you will have my respect, depending on your age.

I'm 30 and until 7 months ago the only exercise I did regularly was walking to the fridge. My best time is 24:47 a few weeks ago but I'm averaging ~26'.

Upvoted for changing your lifestyle. A frighteningly difficult thing to do.
September 24th, 2016 at 7:35 AM ^
congrats on the life change. don't worry about the time, worry about not running over all the people in front of you. finishing is what matters (take it from a larger than average mgotriathlete). good for you doing the race.

You probably wont come in frst and you probably wont come in last. No one will care about your time but you, so dont worry about being embarrassed and enjoy the experience. Take it from me, you may be passed by people who look like they're in worse shape than you.
September 24th, 2016 at 8:37 AM ^
You're running in a race to benefit a foundation that fights pediatric brain tumors.
Embarrassing yourself? Just my opinion, but I'd say you're doing the exact opposite.
Run Tough, brother.

Good luck, have a great run! Congrats on your first race (hopefully the first of many).
