This is how I never forget my wedding anniversary. Thank you Desmond.

Lol nice. I actually asked Desmond to be the officiant at my wedding. He responded and said he wasn't qualified, but I was pretty happy he actually emailed me back.

The night before my wedding the groomsmen and I were drinking at the Jug and Kevin Koger was there. I was going to ask him if he'd take a shot with us and as I said, "Hey Kevin, I'm getting married tomorrow. Will you..." And he cut me off and said, "No I won't be your best man!"
We all had a laugh and then a shot together. #coolstarrybra

Congrats Double-D! Today is my 14th straight luckiest day of my life. Unfortunately, in our limo ride I experienced a defeat at the hands of the Irish. To which I shallowly said, that ruined my day. The gasps were even from my groomsmen. Stupid starts early.....

I would not say shallow though. Congrats as well.

we had one too. Married in Ann Arbor right after the MSU game. It went to overtime, which almost caused us to be late, but Michigan ended up pulling it out and made for a great rest of the day. Walked down the aisle to the victors and celbrated the (michigan themed) wedding and win the rest of the night.

We are spending our anniversary this year in Ann Arbor throwing our annual tailgate.
September 14th, 2016 at 9:20 PM ^
congrats. I will always remember my uncle (MSU fan) made us all come to his wedding the day Eddie Brown tripped Desmond on the 2 pt conversion. they went nuts listening to the call on the radio in the parking lot.
September 15th, 2016 at 5:07 AM ^
That was my 30th birthday. I was over the parents' house for a big family dinner, and we were all watching as Brown mugged Desmond. We were incredulous when the ref swallowed his hanky.
Making it worse for me, my mother was standing right there, so I had to swallow all the bright blue profane comments that the situation deserved. I didn't even get the benefit of an emotional explosion.
Happy fuckin' birthday to me.

You had your wedding on a football Saturday.
It's obvious where your priorities are.
Actions speak louder than words, and they hurt just as bad.
September 14th, 2016 at 9:32 PM ^
This was discussed as a huge sacrifice which has resulted in infinite football weekends with the guys.
But your right...forgive me just the same.
September 14th, 2016 at 9:34 PM ^
That is actually pretty awesome. Well done on the bargaining.
September 15th, 2016 at 7:34 AM ^
Truly successful negotiations would have been a non-football wedding weekend AND infinite football weekends with the guys every year after!
September 14th, 2016 at 10:43 PM ^
And frankly, I am glad I missed that shitshow of an ND game.

Make marriages great again?
September 15th, 2016 at 9:27 AM ^
When I proposed to my wife, she was smart enough to review the football schedule since she knew neither my dad or I would be there if we scheduled on a home Saturday. Pretty smart, even for a Buckeye.

This is the best breakdown of the play by coach Mo and Holtz.

Pathetic.

I loved this testy exchange between Desmond and Lou Holtz on College Gameday a few years ago:
Lou Holtz: "You're a legend because your team wasn't tough enough to run the football."
Desmond: "No, I'm a legend because your defensive backs weren't coached well enough to stop me."
September 14th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
Wow what a Sparty thing to say by Lou.
September 14th, 2016 at 10:31 PM ^
Well at least he didn't say how the irish out hit Michigan that day!
September 14th, 2016 at 9:54 PM ^
Holtz left himself open for that one. Such a petty, unnecessary comment.

1991 featured both Ricky Powers and Tyrone Wheatley in the backfield and an offensive line that collectively won MVP of its bowl game the year before. Holtz is a clown.

Lou Holtz for Prethident. That guy sure has some dumb thoughts.

Its the world we are stuck with, picking the lesser of two evils.
I wish we could have the option to go the Brewsters Millions route and have choice "C" - None of the above.
Politics is like war, there's no real winner, and it's depressing to talk about.
September 14th, 2016 at 9:33 PM ^
Dear Lord, how has it been 25 years since that play? I love it when Holtz rips his hat off in frustration.
A little trivia - ND quarterback Rick Mirer (who looks like he wants to throw up in that video) grew up wanting to play at Michigan and idolized Jim Harbaugh. But he grew concerned over Michigan's track record at that time to send a successful QB to the NFL. So he decided to go to Notre Dame instead. Ironically, this was the start of Michigan becoming Quarterback U.
A game that was played earlier that day was Central Michigan beating Sparty in East Lansing 20-3. When they announced that score over the speakers at the big house, the crowd went nuts.
Anyway, GOD bless Desmond for ripping out ND's heart that day.

i think the key detail you are missing is that Bo was in the Mirer living room for a recruiting visit. They were watching a Monday Night Football game. JIm Harbaugh was the Bears starter. Al Michaels said it was the first NFL game ever where a UM QB was the starter. That put Bo on the hot seat and Mirer ended up choosing ND.

Scary -- that game was the last time I attended a game at the Big House. Still remember that game vividly. (I also went to the BC game the week earlier in Boston, when Desmond had 4 of our 5 TDs, including a KO return.)
On a related front, got today my tickets for the Wisconsin game in a cpl weeks. Taking my 12 yr old to his first college football game that day. So the long draught will end.

Me too
As far as wedding day on a college football Saturday. October 25, 1997 - Woodson's one handed INT at MSU. We obviously won it all the year I got married. Every year I joke that we need to renew our vows so we can win it all again. Maybe I should stop joking.

we beat up on Indiana that day, it was a noon away game. Got married later. The whole "No fall Saturdays" thing doesn't matter as long as you marry the proper person who loves Michigan football. So choose wisely. Also when you are old like UM INdy and I, neither of you care about anniversaries anymore.

it's great to be a michigan fan, and if your bride is also, more power to you both and i guess that is the exception to the rule. but marriage is the most important thing you will ever do and no matter how much we collectively love michigan football, be serious - marriage is a blessing that far surpasses the fun of michigan football. and if it doesn't, maybe some serious self-reflection is in order.

friend of mine told his wife they shouldn't get married in the fall because she "deserved to have 100% attention from all guests and if there's football on then half the wedding will just sit in the bar and watch the games or go to the parking lot and listen on the radio." It worked.
September 15th, 2016 at 9:09 AM ^
to get the hell out of that marriage. If they want 100% of the attention. ooof.

I was born at 3 o clock this day. My doctor and my father wanted to watch the game, so they rushed me out. Broke my collar bone on purpose to make it easier. After that I sat back and had my first ice cold brew with my old man watching Desmond make that unbelievable grab.
