"There wasn't a weakness on the field (at Michigan). Their coaches deserve credit. Their players deserve credit. That's some big-time football right there."

That's some high praise there.

After I heard him on Russillo & Kanell, he just felt like ones of those coaches Michigan fans would root for when he's not playing Michigan. He's even got a little Harbaugh in him, but it wouldn't shock me if he became a MGoFavorite behind PJ Fleck and ahead of Pat Fitzgerald.

When we were kicking their ass...I actually thought to myself "he's going to have some awesome things to say about us after this game." Toss in the sat camps and all that...I wish him all the best.

He doesn't just compare it to the '08 Florida defense, he says he would be much more afraid of the UM defense than the '08 Florida defense. That year, Florida's defense was 3rd in the S&P rankings behind USC and TCU (what?).

TCU was a great team that year and led by their defensive unit, however the strength of schedule probably assisted their stats greatly.

If I only get 220 yards of offense and 3 points, I'd praise the opposing team too.

FWIW I like Rolo and wish him and Hawaii luck, not just to improve our SoS, but if they can get the spread run and gun up temp going like when they went on a little bit of a run(against non starters), they'd be a lot of fun to watch as a Mini-Oregon or something.

"Hawaii's coach comments on MICHIGANS defense after Saturday's game. He goes on to compare it to Florida's 08 defense.the 1985 Chicago Bears."

There.   I fixed it for you.

I would agree with that. I don't see how Guderian and his Panzers get around Richard Dent and into Belgium in that scenario. Another run cut tragically short by some solid defense on the edge of the Maginot Line. The war would have been a lot shorter certainly.

Oh, and Ditka probably would have had the entire invasion force in tears before they got to Paris.

Time-travel that edge defense to beginning of WWI and it's a take-down behind the LoS, as opposed to running the play out of bounds for a 1 or 2 yard gain.

(WWI turned into trench warfare because both armies tried to outflank each other on the channel side of things.  Neither accomplished the flank ... they hit water and dug in.)

That's why the maturation of Speight to Chesson over the top is so valuable -- it'd be like having a troop transport plane back then: get on the backside of the defense to open things up.

Only on MGoBlog would this conversation be possible ... :-)
