OT- Terrel Owens
With TO not being exactly a hot commodity, I think the Lions should offer him a one year contract. It was clear that Calvin Johnson was being doubled and tripled because our other receivers weren't getting the job done. I think TO would help to open up the offense, then Mayhew could concentrate on defense and maybe offensive line. Your thoughts?

It will take some big money to lock TO down, not sure how much space the lions have with the salary cap but they have a lot of needs left to fill, a 2nd WR would seem to be lower on that list.

It's an uncapped year. If it's only a one year deal it wouldn't matter.

I doubt TO would wanna play here. I think the Lions should just take Dez Bryant at #2.

Please for the love of god dont draft a receiver with your first round pick. Honestly the T.O. thing isnt a bad move and if it stops you from drafting Bryant in first round its a great move.
Do you really think I want to see the lions take a reciver in the first round again? I don't want TO or Dez, I want defense.

TO was paid six million last year if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure we would be able to finesse him for a little less. Take Bryant at 2? Matt is that you?

I think what you heard was that he is "an ass hat in the locker room". I can see how you could mix that up though.

Honestly, this isn't a bad idea. I really doubt it would happen, but who cares about team chemistry? This team has been horrible for years, and Owens won't be around by the time the Lions might get good, anyway.
Let him come in and take some pressure off Stafford, Johnson, and the running game. He'll cause a bit of a ruckus, but maybe Detroit can win 5 or 6 games. They'll get a bit of confidence going, dump him in a year or two, and keep that momentum going toward perhaps building into a winning team.
Really...you have nothing to lose by trying something like this.
Like I said, it's not going to happen, but it's interesting to consider.

I think it's a bad idea, because you can't be sure that TO will behave himself. You've got a young QB, and I don't think you want a cancer like TO yelling at him, being a distraction.
Stafford seems to have control of the locker room and respect of the veterans though and TO does usually behave himself for the first year. If it were a one year deal and incentive heavy, I think it could work. That all depends on he and his agent facing the reality of "aging".
His agent is still Drew Rosenhaus, isn't it?

I know its hersey for a Lions fan to suggest we draft ANOTHER WR, but we need one. I'd be more tempted to go after Marshall in Denver and see about trading for him than TO. Or even someone decent in a late ground, enough to suck a safety over to the other side of the field at least.
Yeah just think this would be a bad fit for both TO and the Lions. The Lions are rebuilding so not best to have a disruptive influence in the locker room of a TO when you've got young guys around trying to forge a team ethic. For TO he would be trading one bad team for another. The Lions do need a quality wide man and I agree Marshall would be great but again it may be a reach to get hold of him.
Didn't we learn anything from the ill-fated A.I. experiment with the Pistons (or, for that matter, Hasek)? Once a prima donna, always a prima donna.
There's other WR free agents out there, don't go asking for trouble. Chris Chambers or Derrick Mason (if available) would be a similar performer statistically, without all the baggage.
We'd be much better served by spending that "TO money" on a lineman, offense or defense. Stafford needs protection, the D-Line needs to get pressure on opposing QBs, and I don't think i'd want the likes of TO taking Calvin under his wing. No need to potentially poison the mind of our best player. (Although I believe Calvin is smarter/better than that, you never know.)
