A group of Michigan Students is attempting to orgainze and name the Football student section. The new name: The Victor's Corner

Coach Harbaugh seems to be all for it!!

Best of luck to them!

Hi! We are the Victors' Corner! Similar to @UMMaizeRage and @ChildrenOfYost, we are trying to create a unified football student section!

With the Children of Yost, it seems as though a handful of individuals have become self-appointed "captains" of the student section, trying to dictate behavior & cheering for everybody else.  Worse yet, those "captains" don't really seem to be there for the purpose of rooting for the hockey team.

I am afraid that any initiative to name the football stadium student section will be accompanied by an attempt to take ownership of the section, especially since the Athletic Department seems like it might have a hand in this movement.

We'll go full Stanford and throw dignity/decorum out the window here:

I say we call the student section "the Crotch" from here on.  We can say, with all sincerity, that although the Crotch may not be clean and without odor on any given Saturday, it has certain charm, appeal, and POWER that cannot be denied.  The Crotch may not always be photogenic, but it always the life of the party/football game.  The Crotch can be crowded at times, but that just means it's popular and where the "in" crowd likes to go.  Sobriety is optional when at the Crotch, but memories will always be made.

Can we have them end this stupid trend started by freshmen last year of "You suck *bitch*"?

Like...the You Suck chant is already controversial enough (see: versus military teams).

And for the love of God, can't we be a classier body than that?!

There has been serious talk of the MMB nixing Temptation entirely to kill the You Suck chant. While I do love Temptation after third downs, it seems like this is the only course of action to kill the chant. There have been multiple attempts in the past, and you know how well those have worked.

I have heard it directly from band members who were in the meetings with Pasquale and staff.

The band was looking into alternatives to play after third down that did not encourage those sorts of chants. I have yet to hear from current members whether the plan was actually implemented. It is quite possible that the band still plays Temptation this year. We'll see what they do on Saturday.

Honestly didn't know they said bitch, but I always enjoy the "you suck" chant. It's dumb and juvenille, but there's just something enjoyable about yelling you suck with that many people. The only time it sucks is if the opposing team goes for it on 4th down and gets it. Then we look really dumb.

Some people do. It's not unified at at all. Hopefully it doesn't become too popular. But yeah, I just graduated and I love the "You suck" chant. It's intentionally juvenile, stupid, taunting, playful, blunt and not overly serious. Adding "bitch" to the end takes it over the edge to "Sparty" level, imo.

Maybe I've already hit the "get off my lawn" stage, but I was a student back when that cheer started.  It was juvenille and shameful then and is no better now.  Our TEAM should be the ones demonstrating the futility of the opponent by their ACTIONS ON THE FIELD.  If the student section has to point it out, then it's not obvious enough (and being disrepectful to a number of opponents that don't deserve it - certain teams could be excepted to that).

Also, I was around when the "chop" somehow changed to the "claw", which just looks strange.

This thread gets hijacked by the "get off my lawn" types (don't deny it), I like the idea for a few reasons:

1) Increased solidarity of students could lead to more championing of appearing on time. The student section is at its best when it governs itself, and I'll argue with anyone who disagrees (if I have the energy to care enough).

2) Possibility to have a voice in any conversation involving student tickets, seating, and even gameday events or special occassions.

3) It's the students' section, not ours. What they do might influence people's opinions of the fanbase, but the reverse is true. I'm sure student's don't like being lumped in with the steak-and-lobster-down-in-front type of fan. Let them have fun - they're only in college for 4 years, then they have to grow up (for real this time guys).

I await your negs with open arms.

I agree, this has less to do with the naming of the student section and more to do with organization of the students in general. I remember a strong push to get everyone to bring pennies to one game, chug down a water bottle, fill said bottle with pennies, and shake like mad on third down plays. A fair number of students near me did this and it was loud. If every student did this, it would be deafening. I'd be a strong advocate of that kind of organization.

I agree with each of your points but don't think this development actually accomplishes any of them.

1. When the executive board of the organization is hand-picked by the AD (as is the case here), the AD is the one governing the students.

2. The student advisory committee was already formed to give students a voice in that manner. This isn't the section creating the "voice", this is the "voice" creating the section with the AD's help.

3. Kind of already addressed it, but I don't think this organization is good for the students' control over their section.
