OT? - Attendance Record to Fall?

Submitted by I dumped the Dope on

Haven't heard much recentlly about the Battle @ Bristol Speedway but just drove thru TN and was thinking of it, the video has some actual shots...seems like its going to be a faraway view.

Personally I think its a sketchy attempt to steal the actual record in a stadium not designed for footballl, hence it should have an asterik (*) next to it.  Other websites claim all tickets have been sold but I'll wait to see it before I believe it.  Perhaps still mad about the '97 Heisman Trophy?

Silly to get butt hurt unless you also want an asterix on The Big Chill.

Well, it would be pretty cool to see him take the ice.  His checking would be vicious if he's taken the magic potion.

Actually, there is a lot more Tennessee butthurt on display here.  They keep expanding their stadium, only to have Michigan make theirs bigger.  They still whine about "the Greatest Snub in the History of the (Heisman)."

It's really clever of them to use Bristol as a "football stadium" to break the attendance record.  But they still aren't going to get Peyton Manning a Heisman.

So because we were nowhere near the first to host a hockey game in a non-hockey venue, that was cool.  But because they're the first to hold football in a non-football venue, this is dumb?

Neither makes sense.  I don't see why it matters which makes less sense, but I'll leave that to you.  They're both about novelty with no practical purpose.  You might be twice as far away at Bristol, but a football field is twice as big as a hockey rink, so that would make it relatively equal -- I think?  I don't care.

And the sight lines are terrible. But, there's something to be said for being a part of a "spectacle" like this.

Bristol Motor Speedway set up a new, permanent, HD display suspended above the infield. The thing is HUGE. Most people will be watching the game on it - which will be almost as good as doing so on their own couches.

Aren't they expecting 150,000, with most of the tickets already sold?

I actually like end zone seats normally, but those look ridiculously far away.

of a new attendance record being set this fall, with Michigan having 8 home games of Harbaugh and the potential of a Championship-level season.

That's what this thread is about, isn't it? So why the"OT?" tag?

OP: "... I think its a sketchy attempt to steal the actual record in a stadium not designed for footballl, hence it should have an asterik (*) next to it ..."

I'll play. What would they need to do to have the asterisk removed? If they sell all the tickets and everyone shows up, 150K will be watching a college football game. As someone noted in another thread, the next move is to get ND (or, better yet, Sparty) on board with a game at MIS.

Trying to get the record back by changing venues would be petty. Why is having the most fans to watch a single game that important? Just win.

Oh boy, here comes the just win crowd. The blog should just shut down. There's no point in talking about anything since all we have to do is win. If all you care about are wins, why do you come here? Just wait until January and look up the wins/losses.

Sparty troll - LOL. Because everyone who gives you shut for worshipping a school you didn't get into has to be a MSU fan. Nice defense mechanism you've developed there.

If I was a Spartan, why wouldn't I just say so? I actually think less of their base's M.O. than most, which is why I call out people who think they are superior to it while actually emulating far more closely than they realize.

Yeah this sounds like a pathetic attendance stunt.

It would be like, oh, I dunno, hosting a hockey game in the largest football stadium.

Would you say this affects your day-to-day happiness? Is the thought of Michigan Stadium not having the attendance record creating problems at work and home? I'm here if you need to talk.

This is such a huge who cares for me. Michigan fans can be quite childish about things like attendance figures. If it means so much to someone else to do a gimmick game to break a record, let them have at it.

I say fight fire with fire.

Since these kind of events are for novelty and setting attendance records, and not for the quality of the sightlines:

Hello Indianapolis Motor Speedway:

Seating capacity 250,000

Michigan vs. Notre Dame in the Brick House!

Whoo Hoo!
