Tyrone Wheatley

Wheatly played football at Michigan from 1991 t0 1994. During his time at Michigan, Wheatley earned the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year during the 1992 season. He was named the MVP for his performance in the team's Rose Bowl victory that year. Wheatley continued his track success as well, earning first-team All-Big Ten and All-American honors. He ranks among the Wolverines' all-time rushing leaders in numerous categories, and his name appears in several places in the Big Ten football record book. He was named to All-Big Ten teams in football and track and field a total of four times, and he earned portions of seven Big Ten championships (two team awards for football, one team award for indoor track, one award for 110 meter hurdles, and three awards for individual football statistical performances).

Wheatley was selected 17th overall by the New York Giants in the 1995 NFL Draft. Wheatley played in the NFL for 10 years and went to one superbowl with the Raiders before retiring and becoming a coach.

Agree, seeing as how this is not just athletics while a student at the university, am very surprised Red Berenson isn't included at least. He was an all-american as a player.

and Coaching, um yeah, there's that too.

No hockey representation?  No Marty Turco?  Brendan Morrison?  Jack Johnson?  Dylan Larkin? and yes, Red Berenson?

How about great Michigan baseball players like Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, and Jim Abbott?

When I started watching Michigan football, he was the guy everyone wanted to be and talked about. A very successful man he has become.

I'm going to assume he's not in the top 4, and have to give some props to a hockey player that should be included in Michigan's top 25.  Brendan Morrison is Michigan's all time leading scorer.  He was 1st team All-CCHA 3 years. 2 time CCHA Player of the Year and CCHA Rookie of the Year in his freshmen year.  He won the Hobey Baker award as the NCAA's most outstanding player in his senior season.  And most importantly to us Michigan hockey fans, in 1996 he scored the overtime goal to give Michigan it's first national championship in 32 years.  He belongs in any Michigan top 25 list.

Morrison is Top 25. No doubt. Also see: Turco, maybe Kevin Porter, case could even be made for a couple other guys.

Red, however, is Top 5. The common consensus is if the Hobey had existed when he played, he could have won it three times.

But since hockey apparently isn't on the radar for this list...

Sure is. The poll isn't credible because for some reason people didn't know the criteria of it and thought it was for football. Trey Burke at #20 is an insult. I know people have a soft spot in their hearts for Denard but having him 15 sports ahead of someone who was the national player of the year and led us to an unforgettable run that put us on the doorstep of a national championship? Give me a break.

Oh and Trey's 11 spots behind a guy who never beat Ohio State so there's that too.

Can someone tell me why people were ever confused and thought this was a football players only poll? What about it made them think that?

I believe in the original OP, it was explained that there were so many days until football season started. That part of the poll was explained in depth. Whereas it was just mentioned once that it's the best athletes at Michigan, and that wasn't emphasized like the number of days until football season started was. I think that led to a lot of the confusion....coming from someone who caught on and voted for all sports.
