Here's some backstory from reddit: Now, in regards to the Espn altercation; Everett had anticipated being on the show that day and at the time was to be hosted by Roy Firestone who came down sick that day and was sent home. Rome was a lowly ESPN 2 scab who just happened to be available as a last second fill in. Neither of the 2 knew about each other being on the show that day until 30 seconds before it aired live. They didn't tell Everett that Rome was to fill in nor told Rome that it was Everett as the guest so it was a huge surprise for both and that's exactly why you see the excitement in Everetts eyes as it started. Rome got slapped around for running his mouth off and after the show went to commercial it took the whole set crew to pull Everett off. There are few extended clips out there that you can hear Rome whinning like a lil bitch begging them to get Everett off of him... Here's the lesser known facts of the incident; 1. Rome threatened both Everett and ESPN numerous time with criminal and civil charges claiming emotional and psychical distress. Odd really considering that he instigated the whole ordeal and was warned what would happen had he called him "Chris" one more time. 2. Burger King approached both Everett and Rome about 6 or 7 years ago asking permission to use several clips or cuts from that recording for new commercials and marketing for a few menu items they planned on pushing at that time. They offered both 2 million dollars each for permission, Everett agreed however Rome didn't. They eventually went upwards of about 5 million each offered but yet again Rome declined and refused. He's still so bitter and embarrassed by that, that he refuses still to this day to even discuss it publicly. Hope you find that info as interesting as I did...

I don't follow much sports radio/TV personalities and have never heard of Jim Rome until this week, but why was he calling Jim Everitt as "Chris" anyway?

My buddy worked at FoxSports in LA (Sherman oaks studios) in the 90s/00s and has a bunch of funny Jim Rome stories, none of which Jim would find funny. Supreme Napoleon complex ...irritable self-promoting turd ...dick to interns and staff. Those types of stories. Makes him out to be a poor mans Ari Gold sort of guy

was a set up man. The fix was in. You can see both guys act odd and unnatural. Rome got huge exposure out of it and got his own show almost immediately. He was bracing for the attack and was never actually in any danger. He won't talk about because it was shenanigans that got him famous.

I don't think he was ever enraged. It was more, "Ok, now I'm going to do what I said I was going to do if you called me that one more time." If Rome fought back even a little, I could see it getting ugly, but at that point Everett was totally dominating him and just basically slapping him like the little bitch Rome is.

Now that I've re-read coach's Tweet a few times, I think it's even more genius than at first glance and makes Rome's osu reply even more irrelevant.

Harbaugh KNOWS that Rome is leveraging HIM the way he leveraged Everett (staged or not, though I have also heard it was) to get attention and that he is supposed to react like Everett did ...or at least understands his role is merely as superstar so that pathetic little Rome can get some badly desired attention again.
