I only spent a couple years there and my feelings about it were also mixed. It's a very affordable area and the people are great, relative to where I am now. I'd say it's a pretty good place if you have kids. It's probably bigger than you're expecting, with several hundred thousand people and there are some very good restaurants. KC is also surprisingly fun and only a few hours away.

However, it is also quite boring if you're the outdoor type. It's flat, very landlocked, with no nice bodies of water nearby. I moved there right out of school and we spent most of our free time drinking, partly out of boredom.

So again, affordable and I think great if you have kids. But I probably would never go back myself.

Love those, but I prefer my AJ Trainer 1. I will finally be able to wear them for a prolonged time today. Back to my gym routine later. I wasn't able to go last week due to several obligations.

It's a 1999 Camry. 17 years old. Incredibly reliable.

I grew up in East Lansing and my dad worked for the state government. He reasoned that the taxes paid by the Oldsmobile factory workers in Lansing paid for his salary, so he bought Michigan-made cars exclusively for decades. My first two cars were hand-me-down Olds '88s from Dad. They were good cars, but nowhere near as reliable as my current Toyota. Oldsmobile doesn't exist anymore. After my dad retired, he bought a Toyota Avalon. He put 301,301 miles on that Toyota. (Yes, I remember the mileage exactly because Dad was weird like that.)

By the way, I didn't buy the Toyota. That's a hand-me-down from my mother-in-law. My Pontiac Grand Am gave up the ghost after 8 years and 85K miles. We bought a Honda Odyssey for grandma to drive the kid to and from his activities and I took the Camry.

I'm not a fan of subsidizing a poor quality product just because it's "Made in America." I could say more about free/fair trade, but that starts approaching on the no-politics rule.

So apparently Eastbay is running a promotion where you get a $25 reward code for a future purchase when you spend at least $99 plus free shipping over $75. I thought I was done buying the new gear but I guess not.
