Dreams Involving Michigan Football

Submitted by LKLIII on

Most of us are already aware that Coach Harbaugh starts to have "football dreams" when the season is approaching.  Most notably a few weeks ago he said he's been now having his first dreams as being a coach (as opposed to being a QB in a game).  Many of us have anxiety related dreams but they usually incorporate school or work.  I suppose it's natural for a professional QB and football coach to have the dreams relating to football games.

For the first time in my life though, last night I had my first dream involving Michigan football.  I've never played the game myself, but I've been a big Michigan football fan for few decades.  For whatever reason, last night was a very vivid anxiety dream about our team this year.  In it, the OSU game was moved to our bye week which caught us off guard, and they totally crushed us like they did last year.  In addition, we end up getting a TIE game with Northwestern (nevermind that tie games aren't a possibility anymore and that we don't even play Northwestern this year).  The dream ended with an extreme sense of urgency in beating MSU, but the dream stopped before the game was played.

Have any of you as fans had any particularlly vivid or recurring dreams involving Michigan football?  And if so, what were they?

Batsignal to every MMB alum who still has the "showed up late for Morning Rehearsal and got kicked out of block" dream all the freaking time. Haven't had one in a while, but it used to be at least a monthly occurence for years after I graduated.

I had a dream that Peppers was injured in fall camp and was out for the season and immediately announced he'd enter the draft. The board melted down.

I don't know if I was more disturbed by dreaming about a season-ending injury to Peppers or that I was dreaming about a messageboard. . .

Wasnt my first, but I had a dream two nights ago where Michigan was losing 24-10 to Rutgers with a minute left... This was not the main part of the dream, but I immediately woke up... Was hard to go back to sleep after that.

Mine sucked last night. I was in some game where you had to hide from Jason freakin Voorhees in some sick carnival looking fun house. I woke up, went back to sleep, and something similar resumed. I wish it was pleasant about UM football. I guess that's what I get for going to bed cranky. :/

I dream about them less frequently now. The occasional dream where Michigan is competing for a title or something, vague stuff.

But, back when I lived in Ann Arbor, it was not uncommon for me to dream that it was the first game of the year and that I had accidently overslept and was rushing to get to the game, terrified that I would miss it. One or two of those were real memory-burners.

It lacks the punch now that I'm 12 hours from the Stadium.

I had a dream we were back in the Lloyd Carr days and the game was played on South U... so it was literally a game on the street.  I was a WR, but didn't play, i was on the sidelines (sidewalk).  It made no sense, but it was awesome.

Back in '97, between the OSU win and the Rose Bowl, I had a dream that we lost to Washington State, 21-16. Fortunately, we won the game, but it was by the same score (21-16).

But I had a dream about a weekago that I was helping Michael Landon steal some nuclear weapons with a group of ninjas...until we realized that the group inteded on detonating them in the warehouse we were storing them, and we had to fight them off with guns.

And yes, it was this Michael Landon:

Last night I had a dream we played against Clemson for the home opener. Final score?

Michigan - 1,319,780

Clemson - 1,186,250

Quite a few TDs. Not many FGs. My whole family left me at the stadium, pretty sure my wife divorced me because I refused to leave the Big House, and the game lasted for eight months. Weird freaking dream.

I keep dreaming of a game against ohio state. It rotates between columbus and Ann Arbor, between losing and winning. That's about it.

I just had one about my pro team in the Packers but it's always the same.  There's always something that makes me unable to watch the game in my dream.  Either for some reason I can't find the right channel, something breaks, I have homework to do that I can't seem to finish.  It's always something preventing me from cherishing the first week of football.  I always get them this week, before the first week of preseason games.

since I had my first Michigan football dream ever last night. I was at practice, and Don Brown was trying to set up my account on his computer, and was struggling to assign me a password.

Why I needed an account or what I'd do with it I haven't a clue. At least I wasn't trying to tackle anybody.

I have a lot of dreams about the A-Team.  B.A., Hanibal, Murdock, Face, and myself are shooting machine guns and escaping from people chasing us.  It is pretty sweet.  I end up diving into cars and the dream usually ends with Hanibal saying "I love it when a plan comes together."

there was a fumble & a mad scramble to pick up the ball, & Harbaugh was on the sidelines rolling around like the Tasmanian Devil demonstrating the proper technique for recovery.

I had a dream just last night that Ben Bredeson was kicked off the team due to rules violations.  I was really disappointed in the dream and "awoke" into another dream where I checked my phone and went to mgoblog and there was a confirmation post in that dream that he had indeed been kicked off the team.

Then I finally actually woke up and checked mgoblog for real.  Thankfully not a thing.

Some crazyass mgoception going on in that dream.

Had one last week.  Michigan scored an early TD against MSU and could not move the ball the rest of the game.  I was getting so frustrated that they couldn't score.  They hung on to win 7-3.

I had a dream once where I woke up and found I was in a home I didn't know & I started looking at all the cool football stuff.  It was a collection of stuff with my name on it, and I found that I had been a QB selected in the 2nd round by the Packers, backing up Favre.  I had led Michigan to the national championship & Pershing to the state title.

Cool dream, other than I never played QB, & never attended Pershing or Michigan.

Every year the night before the opener I have a dream that I'm waking up and it's already halftime, i.e. I've missed out on going to the game... That always jolts me awake, and I realize it's ~8am. Fun stuff.

I dream about Michigan football at least 4 nights a week. Usually because it's how I go to sleep...insomnia sucks. So it helps to focus on one thing.

It used to be REALLY bad where I'd try to name every single player by jersey number starting at #1. Now I like to play the season in my head. I'll start with the first game and go through the schedule - I usually never make it past the 7th or 8th game before I'm sleeping like a normal person.

I had a dream last night that Dave Brandon was still AD and still messing with the game time experience. So with 2:15 to go in the first quarter, he took a 35 minute tv timeout to have some special feature/event on the field. He did this 6 times throughout the game. Game took over 6 hours. I was sitting in a luxury box next to Brandon and started yelling at him that he was ruining the game. He did not care. I woke up angry, thinking it was real.

I remember a thread on MGoBoard around this time in 2007 about someone having a nightmare where we lost to App State. The thread consisted of everyone laughing off that it could even be a possibility.

I wonder what anxiety dreams are like for coaches.  You know, the ones where you're at work and something is wrong and you can't do anything about it?

I bet it's a lot like watching the '13 O-line.

Every time I have a Michigan football dream, the team is either losing to a team they have no business losing to and/or I get mad that I missed a game or most of a game.
