OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Pop Culture References

Submitted by JeepinBen on

Simple premise today for our (potentially last of this OT season? Mods? Was there a "Meta, OT" post that I missed?) car discussion: What's your favorite Pop-Culture Car Reference?

Do you, like Slowhand, get off on '57 Chevys?

If you're a Nelly fan are you Team 'Slade or Team Range Rover?

Was the Bad Boys' 911 the greatest move Car Casting ever? Or was Iron Man's R8 too perfect? Did you (do you?) Still want a General Lee? Or did you used to have a Trans Am and make people call you Bandit?

What's your favorite pop-culture car tie in and why?

1970 GTO Convertible

Silver with black interior.  4 speed, Rally II wheels (subsequently swapped out for a set of Cragar SS's) and had a 455 HO (first year Pontiac put the 455's in the GTOs).

Blew the engine street racing on Woodward and learned everything I wanted to know about engines and more swapping that out and dropping a RamAir III in it's place.

Fun car.

My favorite is the Canyonero.

I tried to talk my girls into asking for this maybe 1/8th scale Bumblebee in Toys R Us. My wife was about to hit me over the head. The girls didn't want it. I still regret not buying it.

Notwithstanding that the film launched the acting & directing careers of Richard Dreyfus, Harrison Ford and George Lucas the film's main stars were probably these....

I always thought the customized 71 Lincoln Continental used in "The Car" movie was total badass.  Boy would I be hard pressed not to buy one of these if they were available...

The delorian was all types of cool in the BTTF movies.

As for perfectly cast roles for a car, it's hard to beat the Ecto-1 from the original Ghost Busters.  Never thought I'd think a Hurst was cool, but that was a cool car.

With apologies to Bullitt's Mustang, and believe me I am a fan of any Mustang, the best movie car in the world ever is:

But Biff's Ford ("Marty, he's in a 46 Ford, we're in a DeLorean, he'd rip through us like tin foil!") is way up there too.

Of course, we can't just limit this to movies.  How about the musical world, too?

They arrested me and they put me in jail

And they called my pappy to throw my bail

And he said, "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin'

If you don't stop drivin' that Hot... Rod... Lincoln."
