Why Not Organize?

Submitted by cp4three2 on

Michigan has a long history of grassroots organizing, etc. Why not organize as a fan base and go after other schools with FOIA requests and look at the practice schedule, etc of OSU, MSU, Illinois, and these other programs that there are rumors of cheating going on?

We should go TMZ on the local media around here. They always talk about accountability and integrity. Let's have a look into these sports writer's checkered past. Hire some private investigators to follow these guys around, talk to people they know, dig up some dirt on these sports writers and embarrass the hell out of them if we can. We already publicly know Mitch Albom is a lair. I wonder what other gems we could find if we dig deeper.

Why not? By writing for mass media, these guys have made themselves public figures worthy of at least as much scrutiny as Demar Dorsey. I already know, because I listen to many of them (Sharp, Foster, Caputo) on the radio, that they can dish it but the can't take it.

It's not the other schools but the Freep and other careless journalists that have been the problem. Other schools have been generally supportive of the Michigan football program throughout all of this, and to go after them would be missing the point.

Because everyone already knows all major programs do the same (minor) shit that Michigan did. The problem? RR was probably Caligula in a past life whereas the entire staff of the Freep were peasant Romans.

What we need to do is organize fan support and get rid of these factions. I suggest we go by night with torches and pitchforks.

The Freep is more of a problem than other schools, it's just that the press covering those other schools are bitter and wanting to nitpick the rules to death.

You could do Ohio State, but the whole rest of the world would see that for what it pretty much is and it'd be majorly tainted. You could do a school like Alabama that we don't have a pre-existing grudge with, but isn't it kind of a dick move to fuck with a whole bunch of people, including a team full of more or less innocent student-athletes, just to prove a point? Not even to clear our names....just to prove a point. That'd nominate us for assholes of the decade for sure.

I don't know why you say "just" to prove a point. The point would be the whole fucking point - that is, that every school does what we did so why are we getting shit on?

I totally agree that the freep are the bad guys, but if everyone commits the same infractions, they should be punished equally. Otherwise, we're at an unfair disadvantage, and I don't see how you justify that.

That's basically like tattling on everyone else in class because you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar. It's just a good way to look like a tool

Clearly, most top programs violate the spirit of those rules (if not the letter), and I expect that a consequence of this episode will be other schools enforcing time restrictions much more stringently. I think Stewart Mandel wrote an article basically saying every coach in America saw those headlines and basically thought, "that could have been me." I think fear of being embarrassed publicly will jolt most university Presidents to do that on their own.
