UM/ND 2018/2019 Contract Details

Submitted by Hab on

In the tradition of scooping WD, MLive is reporting the details of Michigan's new agreement with ND.

Among other interesting bits, it is confirmed that we are away in September 2018 and home in October 2019.

Cue the apocalypse.  Commence the weeping and gnashing of teeth.  We are away to ND, MSU, and OSU in 2018 and home to all three in 2019.

I don't care about how important getting ND was on the schedule. How does Manuel let them take the home game in 2018, knowing we're already away at OSU and MSU?

Sorry, I just don't get it.

1. Michigan will have to kick off at the start of both half's

2. Notre Dame will only be required to gain 7 yards for a first down

3. If Notre Dame doesnt gain 7 yards in four downs they can elect one of their two "bonus downs" each quarter to use as they see fit

4. Michigan will be required to play with 8 players

5. The officating crew will be the first "all Catholic priests" team to work together on one game

6. Notre Dame will keep 100% of the gate receipts for the game in Notre Dame

7. Notre Dame will also keep 100% of the gate receipts for the game in Ann Arbor

8. The game will be considered over if Notre Dame is ahead at any point in the fourth quarter

But hey....THEY ARE BACK ON THE SCHEDULE AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!!!!!!!

As I said earlier, Harbaugh had to give this stamp of approval on this. He did. And he said he doesn't care
where the games are played. He even said it increases ball size. Guess we all gotta move on. On the positive side, 2019 will be nice. For those of you who want your razors back, join the Dollar Shave Club.

I don't like this...paying $2M penalty to Arkansas is NUTS!  And who in their right mind would agree to that sort of penalty 2 years out?  Not to mention I'd welcome seeing Bielama "we gotta play each other" get an grade A B1G Jim Harbaugh cruel beatdown.

Secondly this is short of details.  How much will each school NET from the broadcast rights (not including stadium revenue for the host team).  My problem with ND (besides their cheap spray painted helmets) is that, in the past, they didn't have to share revenue.  If we net, say, $1M for the game and ND nets $2M...this is some serious bullshit.  If they were at least part of a conference then it'd be a little easier to swallow.

ND can back out of it if they have to play more then 5 ACC games in one year. So they could be working on scheduling more ACC games for 2019, play us at home in 2018 and then back out of the contract at no cost. Pretty smart move by them if you ask me and I wouldn't put it past them to do that.

Nope we keep getting bent over by that school and yet everyone wants to keep running back to play them like some scorned chick on prom night.

Everyone says 2018 will be Harbaugh's best class. Yeah, up to that point. 2019 is when this past years class are in their 4th year with a ton of talent beneath them I'm sure. You are looking at the likes of Ohio and Bama but the kids are actually intelligent talent and have better coaches. Nothing against the other teams kids but I'm just saying. You guys all know it. Hope Gary is still playing that year though!
