OT: Charles "Peanut" Tillman retires from NFL

Ball carriers and footballs alike rejoice today as former Bear and Panther Charles Tillman has called it a career. As a Bears fan he was amazing - his nickname "Peanut" lending itself to the "Peanut Punch". He forced more fumbles as a DB than anyone over his time in the league (43, to the next closest, Charles Woodson's 24).

One of the awesome things every time the Bears played the Lions was seeing Peanut go up against Calvin Johnson. I think they battled better than most and had some serious respect for each other. Over two games, the Lions threw at Megatron 14 times with Tillman in primary coverage. Johnson caught five passes for 70 yards. Tillman got his hands to four of them, and was in position for another but it was picked off by safety Chris Conte. He was flagged once for defensive pass interference down by the goal line on a play that didn’t look much different to half of the other physical encounters the two players engaged in over those games.

Anyone else really miss football?

Peanut Tillman was/is a Pro Bowl Corner and a great player. Add him to the long list of Bears whose careers were wasted while management dreams about 1985.

You make a good point there. Every year the Bears sell tickets for charity to come tour their facility. I highly recommend not going if you're ever in Chicago and get the chance to do so. It starts off with George McCaskey telling an extremely detailed, way too detailed account of the Bears from the very beginning. The fucking guy stops at 1985. I don't even know the right word to describe how dumb that is.

I mean, it is completely true but you don't make to make me think of the futility that is the Lions organization.

The running back I assume is Barry...which - yeah - that's definitely plausible. Besides Emmit and Petersen, few RBs in the past 20 years can touch Barry. 

I'm not sure I'm on the same boat re: Johnson in the last 20-year span though. That one is definitely much more debatable IMO. You still have the tail end of Rice with the Niners; Randy Moss; Terrell Owens was a beast; Marvin Harrison was a quiet assassin; and, then, maybe Johnson. IDK...I'm probably less aligned with you on that one.

While it is frustrating at times being a Bears fan, they at least did play in a Superbowl in the last 10 years and were a decent QB away from winning it. Anyone but Grossman and they probably win it.

Hard to believe he was only in the league 13 years, it feels more like 20. 

As a Bears fan born in 1988 I obviously came after the '85 SB champs, so my best memories as a Bears fan all include this guy as well as Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and those great defenses we had several years ago. Now the Bears are just downright depressing.
