OT: MGoBoard Colloquialisms

Submitted by Hab on

It goes without saying that every community has their own colloquialisms based upon their shared experiences.  And I've found that the MGo community is no different.  Though the prevalence of inside jokes isn't so great that its impossible to understand the general gist of what is going on, I find myself understanding what a poster means in some instances, such as when we post for the 'moms' to take some action, but out in the cold in other cases, like references to putting up 63 points on an opponent (generally Rutgers or MSU I think).

Given that there are still too many bloody days until we can actually talk about football, perhaps some of the older folks could post their favorite colloquialisms and some of the newer members could post the ones that they don't quite understand--without fear of being negged to Bolivia.

EDIT:  Thank you Seth for the link to the Glossary

That's the first MGo-ism that forced me to ask the Board for help. For years, I've encouraged my brother to join the site as a user instead of just being the occasional lurker. When I pressed him for a definitive answer as to why he wouldn't join, he basically blamed all the 'colloquialisms' (to use Hab's term) and said he didn't understand all the insider memes, etc. I've found the Board to be a friendly place that will answer your questions if you ask nicely. I never would have found out who Mike Jones is if I hadn't asked. One of these days I'm going to ask about McFarlin.

One of my favorite jokes, I don't actually know the origins of - the whole "Mike Jones/WHO?" exchange always makes me smile, but I'm not sure where it came from.

NSFWH is one that was a lot of fun, but managed to die an appropriately quick death. Sadly, I don't even see the thread in the HOF.

RDT/Wolverine in a Bag - some dude tried to start a recruiting blog or something and came here to promote it by taking (at least) two different personalities.  One was a supposed Alabama fan who went by "Roll Damn Tide" who started threads about how much he adores/respects Michigan and he even posted supposed photos of himself and his family wearing Alabama stuff, which is pretty creepy in retrospect.  Anyway, he accidentally blew his cover when he started a thread on his phone with one account then commented in it on a different account without realizing.  That's my personal favorite.

Raback was a user who correctly predicted that Demar Dorsey would commit to Michigan in the RR era. He "Raback"ed it. He ended up correct and was rewarded all of the points. BKFinest was a user who tried to repeat that prediction on some other recruit. He "BKFinest"ed it. He was wrong and paid the piper.

Quit drinking and go to bed. Is one of my personal favorites. I know lots of mgoposters hate "Oakland is still in play". But I find it hilarious. Then there was one a few months back about a recruit who was going to commit based on a "conversation" that was had during a Call of Duty Online game lobby. So the running joke for a while about any recruit committing was "has this been confirmed in Call of Duty".
