Per year. Not bad whatsoever.
31.5 million
This is an excellent signing!!! Regardless of pay. I love this dude. Can't wait to see him suit up in the winged wheel.
6 years is a long contract for a 32 year old past his prime. Will be a bad contract in 2 years
Stephen Weiss part 2, Electric Boogaloo
You rang?
lulz
He had the second highest point total of his career last season, and his highest two seasons ago... Not saying he'll maintain that over the next six years, but I def wouldn't say he's past his prime.
but he should be good information 40 points per year.
but he's 32. So, yeah. Probably a good deal for two years, but after that might not be such a good look.
This plus the Helm deal, I don't like it. Not a good offseason for Holland. Can we get Yzerman back?
so yeah he'll fit right in.
Good God. The man is either a masochist or simply has no memory. Six years for a 32 year-old is terrible. Here we are. Again.
More years, more money.
Slightly overpaid, but he'll be a good addition

Fran's is basically Datsyuk without the magic
He's just The Man. Sounds like a stud to me!
Awful length awful.... your going to be massively over paying in 4 years.
So, this is just like April Fool's right? Nobody is stupid enough to do this. Right?
Thinking the same thing.
When are they going to understand that signing old guys under large contracts doesn't work anymore? It's not 2001.
Good for Frans and bad for us.
There is an open thread.
Last team in playoffs here we come.
Overpaid
The money is OK, but 6 years for a 32 year old is a joke.
Love this pick up. Immediate help nown which we need badly. And at the end of the deal our young players will have developed into top line producers and Frans can fall back to a low minute role player and key leader/mentor. This is a good signing.
I admire your optimism, Jack!
Full disclosure: I've been shotgunning Keystone Lights since just after breakfast.
Nice!
that explains it then. Ken Holland drives me to drink as well.
Sometimes I think Ken Holland drinks too much. In this case, I'm not so sure. Great pickup for a couple years. Without the six year term we would not have him, so... I'll take it.
STOP SIGNING OLD PEOPLE

Believe Nielsen gets $30 million for six years with DET. #Isles had offered seven years at slightly more total.

Well conditioned world class athletes that have avoided major injuries don't expire after 35. Frans is a specimen. Maybe he'll sign another deal after this one and play until he's 48 like Chelios.
wow, look at all the NHL GMs in here
how do you all find time to run your team and the wings?
At least we will have a lottery pick next year.
It's pretty easy. I won us some cups over a decade ago and now I just sit back and relax in the studio spitting hot fire. If these fans expect cups they are in the wrong league.

Its not hard to see that signing another 32 year old forward whose best season consisted of 25 goals to a 6 year deal won't work out well for us
Frans sounds too much like Franzen. More dead money later in contract. When is Stevie Y coming back? Sooner the better.
I'll give you 2 words to describe why this is a great deal: Leader. Ship.
Got can't put a price tag on great leaders.
Prediction: Frans scores 77 pts next year and Wings represent the East.
You really must be hammered today lol I hope you're right though.
Good thing they didn't give Hoses a three year deal five years ago, he's over the hill. Holland is the one past his prime...
What about Hans?
I'm surprised it took so many comments to get to this one
I would have preferred 5 years instead of 6 but the money isn't that bad. This organization has relied on the older guys to show the younger guys for years. Holland has made some frustrating moves for sure *cough Franzen cough* and that Ericsson is somehow still on the team but these moves aren't that bad. I'd still love for The Captain to come and help the wings out one more time though
Yeah... nothing like passing up on Matt Martin for Vanek -- an underachieving forward that doesn't play defense. Should fit in on the Wings roster lately quite nicely.
There is no way an extra year will come back to bite them.
Signed,
Pavel Datsyuk
