MDen to hold midnight release party for Nike

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on
Since MDen now has made note of it on their site, I can make this post.

There will be a midnight release at the MDen on Campus on August 1st. More details will come out soon, but expect it to be a PARTY atmosphere with festivities.

They really need to do it in conjunction with a sports bar.  Alcohol would definitely stimulate a lot of extra sales and upgrades.  Enough alcohol and a hype environment could cause a lot of people who planned on buying one or two pieces to walk out with five or ten.

For those of us not in the area, will we be able to buy online at midnight?

And also, I can't imagine they're launching Nike sales without a full selection of football and hoops jerseys available for purchase, so I expect we see some designs revealed over the next couple of weeks.

On the page, they said they will be having sneak peaks on of gear later this month on their Twitter account.

The basketball gear likely won't be for sale until late September at the earliest. They'll reveal the uniforms but as far as selling the jerseys, it may not all be unloaded at once.

Now, I wonder what happens if the dude responsible for turning it on gets caught in traffic, especially on a day where a fair number of people will be anticipating making purchases of gear or something. I envision that he gets to work late, turns it on, and the surge in traffic causes the building to become engulfed in flames. The result will be chaos - worse, cash-only chaos since the card and chip readers will be down too.

The only time I go to stores at midnight is to stand in line for pappy in the fall I make my whole family stand at different stores so I can get them all. Why would I go to a Midnight release party for something I'll be able to get all year...

Agreed. I'm incredibly excited about this but some of this stuff is starting to get a bit out of hand. We all hate Adidas and being a part of the Jordan brand is killer, but a countdown clock to the moment when Michigan switches athletic brands and a midnight madness for buying new apparel is starting to push it for me.
