OT: Songs that always bring back a memory.
Just wondering of my fellow Michigan faithful... what songs give you a vivid memory?
For me it's Headstrong by Trapt. Every time I hear it I get a mental image of the times my best friend and I would go offroading in his lifted Jeep behind our High School.

For me, there is a handful of songs that I swear were played literally every time I have been inside of Scorekeepers . Top of the list would be "What is Love" by Haddaway. Whenever I hear that song I am instantly teleported to the inside of Scorekeepers, circa 1996. I am holding an 8oz. Long Island iced tea (for which I paid $1) and failing to meet any women.

Back in undergrad we invented a drink called the "Lowrider". It was a mix of blackberry brandy and Squirt. We thought it was special.
Now, whenever I hear that War song, I think of all the retching and vomiting I experienced as a result of that very bad, very misguided mixed drink.

Forever Young/ Young Forever
This past fall
This was the song that was played as my football team walked onto the field for our Thanksgiving day football game. Just two earlier one of our teammates had passed away. We played in honor of him and at his family's request. poor kid suffered aneurysm and collapsed while playing on the Saturday before Thanksgiving in a JV game after catching a pass. Brought to the hospital and eventually suffered another and was put into a coma.

I believe it was Chris Rock who said that the music you love when you start... ummm... consummating your relationships ahem... is the music you will love for the rest of your life.
That said, I listen to almost no rap but anytime Ludacris reachers my ears I think of that special back seat in that special cemetery.
Wish I was making that up.

CBS played this after the Pistons won the first title in 1989. I still remember the video montage with Isiah smiling and lyrics "you got a smile so bright"

"Nobody knows it but me" by Tony Rich-- big time booty song with my girlfriend from Soph year
"Unbelievable" by REM-- everytime I hear it I still start looking for the Red Wing highlights
and on a bad note:
"I Don't Wanna Work"-- I was at the Packers/Lions at Lambeau when the Packers won like 42-0 3/4 yrs ago. I swear Bubba Franks is still open.
Related funny story-- I remember an interview Joe Theisman was doing on Tony Kornheiser's old ESPN radio show where tony asked him if he had a favorite song, and Theisman said no but he had a most hated song.. "Boomer Sooner". When he was at ND, they played at Oklahoma and the band was right behind the ND bench. OU won that day huge and the band kept playing Boomer Sooner right into the player's bench. He said he couldn't get the song out of his head for weeks, and even now when he hears that he has cold sweats.

The Pistons at that time had so many good highlight videos. But it will always be "Bad to the Bone" that sticks out. Better than U Can't Touch This at least.
Sports almost seems like a different category. I remember at Bo's retirement they had a killer video to My Way...but that song stands on it's own for me. Other Michigan ones...I remember Should I Stay or Should I Go right when Webber had finished his sophomore year. On a happier note, though maybe not musically, we were blaring TubThumping by Chumbawamba off the car radio in Pasendena in 97/98. After 4 4 loss seasons, there was some meaning to "we'll be singing, when we're winning, we'll be singing...I get knocked down, but I get up again, ain't never going to keep me down..."
(Who knew a little over ten years later those four years would look like a walk in the park?)

There's an album that I listened to for an entire semester while studying for medical pharmacology...and now whenever I hear it I think of my study room at the school, a drive to buy my first house, and rocking adrenergic drugs to sleep.
Also, Revolver, by The Beatles, reminds me of a summer driving. Specifically, around a windy road around a lake where I grew up, with the sunroof open and the road shrouded with branches from maple trees.

I remember they played that song after the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1997. Whenever I hear that song now, I think back to that championship.

I don't know the name of it, but the one with the lyric "Born and raised in South Detroit"--although I'm not from South Detroit--it was a mega hit when was a wee lad of 19--always makes me wish I'd never have left the Great Mitten State.

"My Goodies" by Ciara was playing at every party during the first semester of my freshman year; wow that brings back memories.
I get chills hearing "Ocean Avenue" by Yellow Card as it was my roommate's alarm clock during freshman year.
"Sugar We're Going Down" by Fallout Boy reminds me of Sophomore year for the same reason.
Of course, I can't hear "Sweet Caroline" without thinking of Skeeps.
Finally, my roommate in Iraq listened to Kings of Leon a lot so I naturally can't stand them anymore.

Honestly, probably half the songs on my Winamp at least, all remind me of where I was when I first heard them, or bought the CD they're from. I have a memory for some very weird things.
Not too many are connected to an actual event, but It's The End Of The World As We Know It always reminds me of a Labor Day spent "working," and by "working", I mean all of us lifeguards getting paid 13 hours of time-and-a-half to spend all day at the pool, from open to close. Lifeguarding, yes, but only in between screwing around on the diving board, wheelchair races, building rafts out of deck chairs and empty chlorine canisters and playing pirates, abusing the PA system, and generally taking advantage of the one day out of the year where the patrons didn't mind us making their day a little zanier. (Not that we didn't do a lot of this stuff on other days of the year, but something about the last day of the summer puts people in too good of a mood to be mad about the lifeguards not currently on shift having foam-noodle slapfights on the deck.) Always good times, and that song brings it to mind because the Planet 96.3 chose that song to play for two straight hours on a certain Labor Day to announce their (slightly) new format, and we had it on the radio the entire time, occasionally as part of the aforementioned PA abuse. Being 17 kicked ass.

The Victors.
Not by the band at The Big House (although that is amazing, obviously), but when I'm watching the 11am (central time) Big Ten game at a friend's place with a group of people, and we're waiting for UM's 2:30 kickoff... opening all the windows and putting the speakers on the ledge and turning The Victors up to 11 and letting it loose on the streets of Wrigleyville.

Viva la Vida by Coldplay and Lost Highway by Bon Jovi. Two years my father took me and my younger brothers to Mexcio for our birthdays. My iPod died and we only had his, and we listened to those songs maybe a hundred times. Lost Highway was crazy too, because we were doing exactly what was going on in the song, driving on a lost highway in the middle of the jungle in Mexico on Independence Day

"Valhall Awaits Me" by Amon Amarth and "Needlefeast" by Soilwork both remind me of high school rugby. They were my pregame jams.
"Bug Parade" by Polar Bear Club reminds me of when I worked at a gas station. I always listened to them/Free Beer and Hot Wings podcasts while stocking the cooler.
"Last Call" and "Spaceship" by Kanye West both remind me of working at Meijer when I was 16. Mainly because I didn't make any money there pushing carts and always listened to "Last Call" before my shift ended because it was 10 minutes long and killed time, haha.

It was the last song we listened to in the locker room before going for specialties in HS football...still sends a chill down my spine 12 years later. If/when it ever stops giving me that feeling, I am officially over the hill.

To tie it in to Michigan football, the first time I can remember our marching band playing "Living on a Prayer" was the 2004 MSU game, during the comeback. It always brings back good memories.
Also, they used to save "Respect" for late in a game we were winning against a quality opponent. It was a good sign when they'd bring it out.
