OT: What High School did you go to? And how were they in Sports?
I've seen some school trash talk going on in some threads over the last few weeks, and now that signing day is done, and it's things are slowing down again, I thought I'd see-
For those that want to reveal that much info about themselves, where did you go to school, was the Football team good? (Or great, if in a State other than Michigan that we'd recognize it). Who were your rivals? Any great memories? Or were you a basketball school? Or just not good at sports and such.
Me? Dearborn Fordson Tractors, great football, great tradition, winner for years and years, and origin of our newest preferred walk-on (Which is the thread this all got started for me...though I've seen more trash talk just recently). Only a handful of schools sport a better winning percentage, even fewer at the same level. Even less if you take the Catholic schools out of it (*cough*cough* recruiting*ahem*). But yeah, that's the limit of my smack talk.
How about you? What were you before you were a Michigan Man (or woman)?

05. My sister graduated in 08 though. Chris Baker also went to Saline. He then went to MSU, started all 4 years, then got drafted to the Jets. He was their TE for a few years, but I didn't hear anything about him this year. Then, this year Boisture was the QB and he will be going up to MSU.
Just saying Nick Sheridan makes it funnier.

Saline's own Chris Baker, a tight end who was a third-round NFL draft pick by the Jets. He's with the Patriots now.
I didn't go to Saline, but I'm from Chelsea, so I try to keep track of SEC athletes. Coincidentally, Chelsea also has a tight end in the NFL: Tony Scheffler was a second-round pick by the Broncos.

I played Junior football with Helmuth and played against him for 2 years in high school. I went to pionner. Baker used to come to our junior football practices and give us all state gear and stuff. He was a rally nice guy and at the time the State stuff made for really high quality toilet paper.

I'm a Saline grad as well 08.
Yeah we got three footballers to our name that I can think of. Boisture we don't know about yet. From what I heard he did terrible his senior year. I unfortunately was unable to go to any of the football games this past season, but I hope to go to a couple this upcoming season just to see them again.

Baseball - meh
Everything else - pretty damn good
Won hockey all 4 years, Lacrosse a couple times, we came out to michigan my senior year and beat DCD and barely lost to brother rice, only loss all year.

I went to Edna Karr High School in New Orleans. We had four guys sign with D-1 schools this year (two to Minnesota, one to Colorado and one to Cincy). We also produced two time pro bowl corner Patrick Surtain.

Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, OH. It's a little south of Toledo. Bad in football, but Travis Baltz (Maryland's punter) and Andrew Donnal went/are still there.
Sports we were good in? Soccer. It was a big soccer school for some reason... not sure why.

It was all down hill a few years after I graduated in 2000. We were decent in football, soccer has only picked up recently... won't last. Damn private catholic schools pull away top talent every year.

Okemos kicked my school's ass in fball while I was in school. But yeah, by the time you were around (and my brother) we were walking all over you. I don't know how it is now. Since my brother graduated I don't pay attention.

Monroe '02
Kinda mediocre in almost everything if I recall. I think our girls softball team went to the state finals or something while I was there. Boys soccer did fairly good too, I think.
I played hockey for Bedford for my junior and senior years since Monroe was too cheap at the time to field a varsity team.
Oh, and the school was featured on Oprah once because the school is apparently full of intolerant, homophobic, racist neanderthals now.

When I was there, at least, they were 7-3, 7-3, 7-4, 4-5. For a school of almost 2200 (13th largest in Michigan from what Google tells me), I consider that to be decidedly mediocre.

Class of '08. Pretty well-respected athletic department across the state, particularly up north. I played for the basketball team, and we were always honorable mention in the state rankings. A lot of times, though, when we would run into bigger opponents from Flint/Saginaw/Detroit, we would have problems.
That may not be the case this year, though. Our boys are 15-1 and are making some real noise. They handled Rockford in a scrimmage and beat DCD over the summer. Their reg. season schedule is a little weak though: one of the disadvantages of being so far north. In any event, I sometimes wish I was two years younger so I could be a part of a team with this much promise. Then I remember I'm in college at one of the top public universities in the country...

Didnt go to school there, but lived just in between harbor and petoskey on LT Bay for much of the 1990s.
Did some sports reporting during my time and had the good fortune of covering some pretty good Petoskey teams with Trevor Huffman and Johnny Flynn that went to back to back fnal fours. Boyne City had a nice run one year with the redhead Roczicky fella and Charlevoix made the final our in 1999.
Covered all those teams. Up north is my home away from home.

Proud grad of Traverse City St. Francis 07'. I know a lot of other schools didn't like us up north because of all of the "recruiting" (which is an absolute joke. I graduated with the same kids that I played with in the sand box when I was 3 years old) we did but we were and still are good at most sports.
Football - possibly one of the best teams in the state of MI in the last 10 years (record and champiionships wise)
Basketball - went to semis in 06' and won districts 4 straight years
Baseball - god awful (but Doug Mirabelli is our coach now so that's kind of cool)
Skiing - we usually win states
Track - always a have a good team...won states a few times while I was in HS
Wrestling - new to the school but was actually pretty decent when I was there

I must say I am somewhat unimpressed by TC St. Francis. They whoop ass on some very very bad teams from small, rural schools. ALthough it appears that they are looking into joining a new conference that may provide them with some stiffer competition.

They play small schools because THEY are a small school. They are actually the smallest school in their conference being in D7 for football and having to play both Grayling and Boyne City who are D5 and every other school in their confernce is D6. Another reason they don't play bigger schools is because no big schools will play SF....and I don't really blame them. The big school either wins and beats a school more than half their size or loses and is really embarrassed.
And they beat on ALL of the conferences around Traverse City with teams that will play them. Sure, the Lake Michigan Conference is pretty weak in football, but they also regularly beat Kingsley, Suttons Bay, Benzie, etc...
I think the banners hanging from the rafters in the gym speak for me.

Im still there, we had Mark Ingram on varsity for 3 years. Steve Smith played here in the 80's. Justice Hayes goes here as long with Ryan Morley(probably a mac school) and Northwestern commit Tony Jones. Delaney is an alright coach. Watever he did on the offense was working becuase we had a pretty damn good offense. D was pretty bad and small. We have an alright program i guess. But we most definetly will be really relevant in the upcoming years.

its also home of bret jacobson; played baseball for Vanderbilt and probably our best known athlete. Taylor Lewan went there till his jr year and fwiw i knew him back in elementary school too

That would be Ithaca Michigan, not Ithaca New York. It is a little hick town in the middle of the mitten. You can see our football field from 127 on your way up north. Tiny class C school that wasn't horrible but never won anything. We had "drive your tractor to school" day and the world's fastest cow race if that tells you anything. The basketball team is pretty good this year though. They are ranked in the state.

Class of '89. We had, and have, a very good sports program. It's where Mike Martin went to high school.
Since the OP mentioned it, the "its unfair because Catholic schools recruit" meme is pretty lame. My cross country team was in the top five in the state. Noboby was recruited. In fact, I honestly don't know of anyone on any team who was. Maybe some were, but no one I knew of. Do kids want to go there because the teams are good? You bet. That isn't recruiting. Even if you wanted to recuit, you have to go out and convince parents to let their kids travel miles to school each day. (In my day the school was in Redford and my family was about 20 minutes away.)

(you kicked our butts in the state title game this year) but if you go to a public school in the metro detroit area you do not live more than 5, 10 minutes away. All of us that went to a public school grew up together. I know kids that went to CC that lived in sterling heights, pretty far from Novi. You guys definitely recruit trust me.

When you're that good it recruits itself. Your argument makes no sense. Distance means nothing. My parents made me start at UofD Jesuit for no reason even though it was an hour away. If you saw the new CC campus any parent would easily drive that for or more for the school alone. Just sayin...

what I am trying to say is if you went to stevenson you lived within 10 miles of the school. All of us on the football team grew up with each other. Since junior high always together. The fact that rick bye was able to do what he did at at a PUBLIC school is unreal. We played in the mac red. Eisenhower, 4 state title games, Dakota 2 state titles, Chippiewa 1 state title (it was D-2) and stevenson is crazy. He did this at a public school, where you know kids that lived a hour away could not go to their school. He did this with kids that fall in his district. Not kids that live a hour away.
Could you imagine if he recruited some kids from Esienhower? Like the Digeorgio Brothers or James Stallons from Dakota, the kids lived maybe 15-20 minutes from stevenson. They just fell in a different school line.
My friends and I went to stevenson because thats where we lived( I refused to go to catholic school. No way I was leaving my friends in 8th grade or girls lol) I guess we agree to disagree

The coaching and everything is great, no doubt. But other programs deal with whoever is born, by chance, in their district. The complete lack of size or speed that goes to my school yet still succeeds impresses me more than a school that can cherry pick talent across the state. And I'm not going to accuse CC of it, but some schools do offer scholarships to get those kids to come there. There's a reason a lot of states have separate playoffs for Catholic/private schools and public ones.
