OT: Copa America Centenario - USA vs. Colombia 8:30pm CDT, FS1
And here come the lads! USA (ranked 31st in the FIFA rankings) versus a strong Colombia team (ranked third) in the opening match of the Copa America. The game is at the 49ers' stadium in Santa Clara, California. I don't think the line-up is out yet, but I see (on Bigsoccer.com):
G - Guzan
D - Johnson, Cameron, Brooks, Yedlin
M - Bradley, Jones, Bedoya
A - Wood, Dempsey, Zardes
GO USA!!

and wrong
How? That's an obvious handball in the box. Arm was outstretched. A handball doesn't have to be intentional
Agreed - as long as they're consistent with the call.
Yeah, I don't get why they're trying to make it controversial. It was a handball. He touched it face high. It was in the box. Get over it and score some goals.
Why couldn't USA put in this type of performance in 2014 World Cup?
Because Klinsmann hadn't coached them long enough.
Don't worry, you'll always have 2006. :)
And 2010. :(
2002 was the peak. But for a non handball call against Germany, we go up 1-0 in the quarters and who knows what happens. That was our best showing by far.

Damn. Bradley gave up the ball in abad spot which eventually led to the hand ball
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
horrible give away led right to it
100% on Bradley. It was a harsh call on Yedlin, but should've never been in that position. I'd say US hasn't been bad for most of the first 45, but one lost mark on the corner and one bad stretch and that's 2-0.

Playing better than 2-0
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Only slightly. 1-0 would have been fair.
That call was absurd. No, a handball doesn't have to be intentional. But it also doesn't have to be called.
That's a bad argument. That was a clear handball, the tournament or circumstances shouldn't dictate the rules of the game.
But it's not 'clear'. There are 'ball to hand' calls in soccer.

But his hand was in the air. It's bad luck but the right call. He turned the wrong way
No, you're being disingenuous. There are many, many times when the referee swallows his whistle because he doesn't want to unduly influence play.
Exactly. Yes, letter of the law, it's a PK, but damn, I've seen a lot of those things not called. Because a PK is a crazy harsh punishment for that infraction.

As far as I know, this is the only place in the world where that's ever not a handball. For some reason it's taught that way to a lot of lower-level officials here. All you have to do is get your head turned away so you can't see it hit and they think it's "not intentional".
Point blank is one thing, but when you have time to spin out of the way and you leave your hands away from your body it's a stone-cold penalty.
I'd rather a ref call it by the book. It's not like a 95th minute tie game penalty call.
Lots of refs don't have the balls to call something like that but if he's consistent I don't see a problem with it.
IF that happened to the US and it was a no call we'd be talking about it for months
play pretty good and even impressive for like 70 minutes and be terrible in the rest out of nowhere. I'd say we even looked like the better squad for 25/45 minutes, and even for a good 10. Just stupid mistakes that good international teams SHOULD not make.
Klinnsman should fuck off back to Germany.

You are an idiot.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
I mean, I don't like the words he used but I don't think the majority of USMNT fans would disagree with his desire to see a change in coach.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
If majority of fans want to see a switch after seeing this team play today, they are idiots too
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
How about if we've been asking for a coaching change since the last WC qualifying campaign?
Depends who you want.

Gus Hiddink

Really? If you think they've been so inspiring in this one half that Jurgen should suddenly be safe, maybe you're not the best person to be calling others an idiot.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
I'm fine with being called an idiot if the other side is advocating for firing JK after showing improved play
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Where in the actual fuck are you seeing improved play?
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Improving from an embarrassing Gold Cup and incredibly underwhelming start to World Cup qualifying isn't a very high bar to clear.

In not quite there, but seriously, that interview he just did today where he says the young players just aren't good enough and lays it at there feet, he being the technical director as well...geez, fuck you Klinsmann
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
The thing he said about Hyndeman was asinine.
I know. Like two weeks ago there was a panel discussion about the state of US soccer and Tab Ramos was extolling Hyndrman as a reason why the youth system is working so well. And then Klinsmann throws him under the bus. He looks everywhere but internally for the US' problems. Sign of a bad coach.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
And a worse technical director. EM was benched by Fulham for not extending his contract and then admitted it was a mistake. And also he captained the U-20 team
It's been there for a while now.. Klinnsman has no skin in the game and sits on his record as a player.. Having a picnic in the U.S. is all he's doing. Rides around in his helicopter in Orange County. He's a gradeA bastard. Gulati is right there with him
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
He should get a chance to prove himself in Russia for the WC. With that being said, I don't have much faith in him.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Well, this will be a tough hill to climb.
maybe the men will duplicate what the women did last night when they were down 2-0 at half to Nippon
Why isn't the kid from Dortmund playing?
I mean, it's depressing because they're not playing that bad. Could use some offensive creativity (cough, Nagbe), but really not playing bad. Crazy to think they're down 2, but hey, it's a team I like so of course it will crush me in new and interesting ways.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
I'd love to see nagbe and pulisic come on to start the 2nd half.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
Betting Nagbe will be the first sub for Bedoya
would have been nice but he never does that
Was just going to say, of course Jurgen makes no changes.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
the us had a beautiful attack the had the full cola side on their heels. more of that in the second stanza and this will be a win for the r, w, & b.
Goddammit Bradley
