Every coach likes tall DBs. I doubt you could find one exception. But what reason is there to say that Harbaugh especially wants tall DBs? He has a lot of DBs in the incoming class. Not one is over 6" They're going to be replacing mostly taller Hoke recruits. St. Juste is the one commit notable for his size.

you are able to sign maybe the top corner in their region. David Long is the best db in the West Region. Do you know how many people live out there? I don't either but it's a very large amount. I think I'd probably take that db every time. Even if he was 5'8".

It wasn't just Long in the last class. There was Hill, Hudson, Metellus, and maybe Evans. Only Metellus is as tall as Long.

Harbaugh targets good players, rather than going for size. I think that's proving to be true across the board, not just at DB. If they are also tall, great, that's a bonus. I think if he's going to take a flyer on a kid based on potential, then they should either have great speed or size. That's pretty much what would be expected from any coach.

so, you reported it and the troll got banned?

good job buddy!  Justice is served!

Where would we be without your everpresent ass to regulate the boards for decency!

From his commitment post last summer-

All I have to say is: HARBAUGH

I have no reason not to trust our staff, but I have to say we seem to be taking a number of relative unknowns. The old highlight tape of this kid is not impressive, although the newer camp video is decent and at least shows a big, athletic kid with plenty of frame to add some lbs.

My first impression was also, 'WTH is this staff thinking' after watching that initial highlight tape. But that was his freshmen year i believe. Just slightly above is tape of his camp performance.

Yeah, at some point you have to wonder if Harbaugh is just trolling people.

Harbaugh's passing out offers like crazy, and pulling these super obscure commits months and months before signing day. What's the rush dude? It's not like we had a lot of competition for this recruit. I'm guessing the French-Canadian will be there come February.

Sure, this 0* recruit with no other offers could = an all pro NFL player! I swear, Harbaugh could recruit a lampshade and people would be deeming it the next J.J. Watt. Absent more inputs (film, other offers, recruiting analysis, camps), this dude is nothing more than a lottery ticket.

The point here is, Harbaugh has something not many coaches have. An amazing eye for talent.

An eyebrow-raising commit from out of nowhere has become a top prospect.

I'm not typically a WD sympathizer, but I like that post.  He's right.  People have a tendancy to get all worked up when we get a commit who isn't already stamped as "approved" by the recruiting sites or who doesn't already gave a bunch of great offers.  It's OK to be skeptical, and you don't have to have blind faith in the coaches, but it seems silly to me to think that Harbaugh is such a Guru, yet at the same time question so many of his important decisions (and who he chooses to fill his team with is a very important decision).

If we pick up a recruit who has 4 stars, there is almost unanimous praise in the Hello post.  But if we pick up a kid with 3 or fewer stars, half the board will bitch.  And the craziest part is those two could be switched 3 months later.  It's just stupid.

We have a few starters this fall who fell into this camp (many posters bitching) when they committed, and Lord knows Ryan Glasgow would have as well had he been offered a scholarship.  Yet people went nuts when Brian Cole and Derrick Green committed.  I know there are exceptions on both sides and there is correlation with star rating and future success but some on guys.

I was one of those "skeptics" in the hello post.

At no point did I say that this kid must not be any good, only that (1) it was super early and there was practially nothing out there on him and (2) the board cheerleading (from some) at that point in time was out of control.

Certain posters were essentially:  JH offered this guy?  Well HE MUST BE RICHARD SHERMAN 2.0 JIM HARBAUGH IS PERFECT FATHER MY CHILDREN JIM

If we can't have differences of opinion, or give our own views (respectfully), then what's the point in having a board at all?  It's totall bullshit if it devolves into a series of devotionals to JH and his unerring perfection.

That said, happy for St-Juste and hope that he keeps up the good work and does become Richard Sherman 2.0.  Hell, 3.0, even better!

the fact that there was nothing out there on him is irrelevant when our coaches got to see him in person before they offered. Whether we admit it or not, a huge portion of the board are star gazers. Maybe it doesnt apply to you directly but that's the truth. It's not even subtle.

Then what is the point of having this board at all? If we're all just supposed to all be like "HARBAUGH!!!!" every time the guy says or does anything, you can count me out right meow. I'm not a mindless fanboy, though it seems a large portion of members here are becoming exactly that. The board is bordering on unreadable lately because of this phenomenon. We're well on our way to RCMB level commentary. Let's not do that. Mmmmkay?

It's okay to question why a kid was offered. Oh, and Jim motherfucking Harbaugh is not infallible. Now come on with the negs...

But when it comes to recruiting, the whole damn thing is such guesswork... I trust Harbaugh over offers/ratings/camps/pundits going off youtube highlights.

I think he's earned that level of faith, unlike any other coach we've had in the modern recruit-following era.  If he wants to recruit Standford-caliber kids at Michigan that fit his program vision, I'm not going to grumble or second guess.

The problem is when 80% of the people bitching about the commit offer nothing but his ratings and 80% of the other side has nothing but trust Harbaugh. That doesn't lead to very interesting discussions.

If I have to choose a side, I'll trust Harbaugh as my default. I do pay attention when posters have something to offer beyond the ratings and offer lists.

Having a dissenting opinion is fine, but having one that is based on absolutely nothing will always get ripped by me.  You don't have to love the commitment just because of Harbaugh.  You can stay a skeptic until you get further information if you'd like.  But to say that you disagree with it or that you think MIchigan shouldn't accept his commitment or shouldn't have offered in the first place, you better have a good reason behind it.

I agree that Harbaugh is fallible.  But just like I'm in no place to question Warren Buffett's investment decisions, I'm sure as hell not going to pretend like I know more about which kids to offer than Harbaugh. None of us do.  Not only does no one on the board possess the football knowledge that Harbaugh does, none of have access to the information about the recruit that Harbaugh does.  If there is a particular recruit you have extensive knowledge of (you were his coach, you know his parents, your kid played on the team with him) then by all means share it and give your opinion.

But to think that anyone on this board know ONE GODDAMMED THING about St. Juste before he committed, let alone enough to question Michigan's staff decision to offer the kid is just preposterous.  That's not being a fanboy or being against dissenting opinions, that's acknowledging what you are and are not an expert on.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I was talking in generality, not even specific to recruiting, much less St. Juste (who I know almost nothing about). I am certainly not a skeptic, I really have no opinion on the matter. I'm just becoming tired of the ridiculous Harbaughgasm's that are becoming the norm here. To be very clear, I absolutely love Jim Harbaugh, and I think he has done just about everything right to this point. I love the fire he has, and his general give no fucks attitude. But I won't just blindly support anything and everything he does, I think that kind of thing is pretty dumb and I see a lot of it here lately.
