Who is the Best Athlete you've ever played against?
I don't remember how many yards he had against us his Sophmore
year when we beat them 8-6 on the road,
but his Junior Year he had only 67 yards on 11 carries.
It was 1989 and Saline just beat Dearborn Heights Robichaud for the
2nd year in a row for our first game of the season.
I remember watching the scout film on him with his incredibly long stride
and ridiculous speed. How the hell we beat them 24-0 at home
will always be a prideful memory.
He was none other than my future favorite
Michigan Running Back - Tyrone Wheatley.
High School baseball.
My youngest brother played football with Henson
He was a Running Back at Fremont Ross. I was a Defensive Tackle at Sylvania Northview. Mr. Woodson destroyed us for a school record # of rushing yards.
NSCSB.
I coached at NV..............long before you played.
Your friendly neighborhood MGoPhotog lives in the Northview district.
Woodson for sure. I played at Toledo Whitmer. His senior year at Fremont Ross he was held out in the first half vs us. We went into halftime up 7-6. Woodson show ensued and we lost 42-7. I seem to remember him scoring everytime he touched the ball on Offense, Defense and special teams.
I was a junior, he was a freshman. We had heard that Brighton had a phenom freshman. During the game, some huge kid on Brighton hit a homerun and 2 doubles off the wall. Towards the end of the game, I was like "so which is the freshman?' My coach was like "duh, the kid that is 3-3". The shortstop. The biggest kid on the team. Drew Henson.
I didn't play in the game, but my school played Albert White. He was crazy athletic.
Ditto, he was a man amung boys, even as a Sophmore. Also skated in a pick up game with Guy Herbet who played as a skater, not a goalie, still pretty aw some though.
His nickname was "Super" Drew Henson back in those days. He was a jounior; I was a senior. I guarded him all game, and I'm not sure what he ended up with but it had to be around 30. Yes, basketball, by FAR his third best sport. I probably scored six or eight. We won in OT though. Go Mustangs! (Northville)
jounior? Is that you sauce castillo?
Antoine Jounior?
I swear, I knew like 5 guys back in the day, between the time Henson was in SI as the "Golden Boy" and when he left Michigan, who claimed to have hit homers off of Henson when he was in high school. At some point I felt like it was becoming this sort of bizarre "yeah, me too!" SE Michigan urban legend that just kept growing.
Yeah, well I hit two homeruns off of him my first at-bat and my next one I intercepted his pass and returned it for a touchdown. Top that!
to show their age.
Yes, I'm old. He used to come to our Tennis and Atheltic Club and play pick up basketball. I'm all of 5'-9" (with the afro), as were most of us, and he generally stay outside of the three point line. On a fast break, he called me by name (wow!!) and passed me the ball. Very nice guy - just there to stretch his legs a bit.
I prevented a bar fight in Indianapolis between a buddy of mine who tried to move some coats and Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant who owned those coats.
That's all I got.
Mateen Cleaves. He scored a couple on me.
Rojo, that california loving basterd
Where did you play? I also played against him (comment above).
but Duane Below dropped 43 on me in a high school basketball game. I was at a basketball tournament with Eric Gordon but didn't play against him. Homer baseball and Josh Collmenter tore my high school team to shreds.
I played football and basketball against Duane. Duane never did much against us in either. In fact, he and I received offsetting PF's in football. He came in to replace their 1st string QB that I knocked out earlier in the game and he still wanted to talk trash.

pretty good to slow him down. We couldn't do anything against him. Where did you go to high school?
Morenci, but I was a year older than him. I'm told he was much better his senior year. Our strategy with bigger guys was to deploy me at 6ft 190lbs to just beat up and annoy him all game long. Worked on some bigger guys that weren't super skilled.

Gary Payton. Not much of a contest, but made him miss a layup.
Tom Staton (former M Basketball Captain) showed up at CCRB for some pickup hoops. He was on my team and we were killing it for an hour straight (it was all him). I stole the ball and had a breakaway. Rather than laying it in, I opted for a behind the back pass to Staton - he wasn't ready for it and it hit him square in the nose. After the bleeding stopped he left without a word. He as the last Varsity player I ever saw at CCRB.
I ran in track meets, but not in the same heats against Agim Shabaj, who ended up being a notorious Sparty burnout. He was probably the best athlete of note that I remember encountering. He would do stuff like dog it for the majority of the heat, then turn on the jets and blow by the pack while talking shit all the way across the line.
Our star sprinter that year ended up winning himself a couple DII national championships and making a small name for himself as a football player, besides setting every sprinting record on the board, and he was positively livid after running against that punk. Such a POS.
I didn't play in it, but our high school football team got positively torched on Homecoming by one of those Farmington Harrison teams with Drew Stanton at QB. Something like 72-21. It was ugly. And supposedly it was the most points they gave up all year.
That was the best high school football team I'd ever seen in person. Coached against them that season. What school did you play for?
Doug Anderson, played him in basketball...absolute freak athlete.
Also played Jon Horford and Devin Oliver (played at Dayton, same team as Anderson in HS..Yeah we lost, by a lot)
Who is Doug Anderson?

Watched him play against Rockford in high school in a playoff game after I was out of high school, fun to watch
Played hockey in high school against Mike Knuble. I never saw the first shot he let go on me.
I played with Derek Jeter on the same baseball team growing up if that counts.

Played against Jeter in HS baseball. His team crushed us and he was an arrogant prick about it. Never lifted the grudge.

I played HS ball with him so that means I crushed you too! BOOM!!

an average teenager?
I also played hockey against Knuble. Our claim to fame was losing to East Kentwood 5-0 in regionals. They were so pissed that they didn't mercy us, we took it as a victory. I also scored a goal against their JV earlier in the year (not all schools in our area were as good as East Kentwood, so we scheduled JV teams to fill out our schedules). I promply did the cabbage patch dance on the ice. That shows my age.
Wow that is impressive! I think it was 5-0 after the first period for us.

The funny thing is, Dickface, you didn't score again. For a shitty team like mine, that was a moral victory. Kentwood was mercying everyone..but us.
Chris Kaman...played him in several 3 on 3 tournaments growing up. Never thought he'd have the NBA career after high school. Nice guy, just very tentative as a young guy
Had a 1-credit Team Sports class with him at CMU during his Junior year when he had put it all together. He showed up about 3 or 4 times over the course of the semester - all during basketball week I think. He dunked a lot.
aka Ro-Jo. played him in the state semi finals in '06. My team (Davison) was undefeated and they blew the doors off of us.
Tony Smith. Played at Marquette and had several cups of coffee with the Lakers. Held him to 14 points while only committing 3 fouls. Then the first quarter buzzer sounded...

Steven Stamkos in a AAA tourney in Sarnia when he was on the Markham Waxers. Best I've ever played WITH is Danny Dekeyser.
Jalin Marshall. He played QB and it was basically him by himself vs my high school and we could barely lay a hand on him. It was very similar to how Brian Cole carried his team. We lost 24-13
Dan Majerle - HS Hoops
Same. Where did you play?
My brother played at TCHS with his brother Jeff Majerle. I'd say Dan is the most famous TC athlete.
Until Joe Kerridge blows up in the NFL!
Agree with that
