Jim Harbaugh GIF Tournament 2016: The Good Times Region Comment Count

Ace

Michigan Hockey Summer is in full swing. Basketball season is a distant memory. Spring football is over.

It is time.

Jim Harbaugh isn't just one of the best football coaches on the planet; he's also the most GIF-able, as we found out first-hand this past season. By my quick count, over 60 of last season's MGoGIFs featured Harbaugh, and I've narrowed those down to a field of 32. A couple quick rules:

  1. The GIFs had to be from the 2015 season. That eliminates anything from his playing career, pre-Michigan coaching days, or the 2016 spring game.
  2. No edits. Just pure, unadulterated Harbaugh.

I've divided this tournament into four regions/categories: The Good Times, The Bad Times, Harbaugh In Action, and Uncategorizable Harbaugh. Yes, the seeding process was damn near impossible, and there will undoubtedly be (legitimate) gripes about my selections, but I've left the voting up to you, our dear readers.

Voting in the first round of this region will run through Tuesday, when the next region will run. As usual, click on the still images to open each GIF in a lightbox.

THE GOOD TIMES REGION

(1) Harbaugh As Grinch vs. (8) Harbaugh Clapping

Harbaugh's Grinch-like response to a question from the postgame Citrus Bowl presser is the reaction GIF I've always wanted but never knew I needed.

This is Jim Harbaugh clapping. It's alright, I guess. The Good Times region, admittedly, isn't quite as strong top-to-bottom as the others.

(4) Harbaugh/Drevno Awkward Celebration vs. (5) Harbaugh/Drevno Successful Fist Bump

I can't get over how uncomfortable this is. Harbaugh's late switch to the bump technique nearly causes Tim Drevno to high-five his forearm.

Much better, albeit less hilarious. The scoreboard animation definitely adds something to this one.

(3) "You're Really Good" vs. (6) Rudock Hug-Like Substance

"I told him," Harbaugh began, "'man, you're really good.'"

Indeed.

I love how this interaction is both tender and strictly professional. That's one formal one-handed hug, yet you can still tell Harbaugh is welling with pride.

(2) Spring Game Grin vs. (7) Fist Pump

I went back and forth between this and the presser grin for the one-seed and I'm still not convinced I have the order right. Harbaugh surveying the scene at the spring game and looking like there isn't another place in the world he'd rather be—I mean, this GIF can be forwarded to every idiot NFL reporter who suggests Harbaugh isn't long for the college game.

A standard-issue fist pump. Like the 1/8 matchup, this one shouldn't be close.

actually think that the fist pump is a tough matchup for spring game grin in the first round.  I think spring game grin probably pulls away late, but there is a lot of intensity in that fist pump. (Also considering that spring game grin should probably still be the number 1 overall seed over grinch answer)

I predict gif with flying clipboard, discarded jacket, and hat doing crazy unhatlike things. :)

PS - I'm a total idjut. I finally noticed that this exquisitely beautiful moment in Harbaugh History is already there, behind the title for the tournament. Duhhh me. :)

Did I just stay in a conference room after a meeting  so I could watch all of these and laugh without drawing attention to myself? Yes. Yes I did.

Also, totally seeded correctly Ace. #1 is going to be hard to beat. I think your limiting the field is smart anyway. The winner of this year's bracket can always face future brackets - Harbaugh's playing time at M bracket, etc.

That said, if Harbaugh ever shows up to practice in pads (like he did with the 49ers)... I mean.  That's gotta be Peak Harbaugh.

work and perfect for a Friday afternoon.  It's amazing to me how Harbaugh can look like goofy Popeye or badass football coach.   I can't imagine anyone trying to follow him as coach at Michigan.

Cranky Dave that is the least cranky comment that a cranky Dave could crank.

I'll be cranky for you,  why can't I vote and stay on the same page.  Hitting the back button after looking at the poll is very time consuming.  I'd say almost 5 seconds worth with my crappy work internet connection.

Also, I love Harbaugh and this tournament is a great idea.

the terrifyingly adorable Out of Control Growing Grin is awesome. But personally, the one I like the best is the Harbaugh Rudock semi-hug. I think it shows how much this guy loves the players that hang in, work hard, and grow.

I spent a decent amount of time early in the season doing the Natalie Wood in Miracle on 34th St. with regard to Rudock:

But Santa Harbaugh made a believer out of me. So I really like the semi-hug.

Good stuff, but for me, the spring game grin is number 1. Mostly because of how great it was to see Harbaugh finally coaching Michigan after wanting it to happen for so long, and also seeing the joy on Harbaugh's face because he was fulfilling a lifelong dream of his. Not to mention the previous year for him in SF had to be so stressful, that it seemed like he was finally enjoying coaching again.

I think the fist pump is stronger than it is seeded.... I also wonder where is a gif of him losing his mind in the sidelines? those are awesome...I love his intensity.

I don't know why, But I find the clapping gif hilarious. He utilizes the full hand on full hand contact, an average clapper doesn't take advantage of the entire surface area. Just another thing that coach harbuagh is a step ahead on.

Cumong man!

There is no way that a Harbaugh fist pump celebrating something awesome while saying "Yes" is a seven.  Now, I am not saying it wins the region, but to put it up against the Spring Game Grin (which also got screwed as a 2) is just unfair!

Watch Dave Chappel Racial Draft and see the 2 white announces little hand shake after the whites got Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and got to keep Eminem while dealing OJ back to the blacks. When every I see that picture I immediately think of this skit which is why it should be the eventual winner.

Trying to figure out if it is a good thing or a bad thing, that the hardest decision I've had to make so far this year was: Awkward Harbaugh/Drevno or Successful FB Harb/Drev.

Spring Game Grin. When I saw it, I had no doubt this guy was taking the program to the moon. Everything else that happened after was incidental.

Three of the final four are going to be spring practice grin, punt demonstration, and good shit jedd. Of course, I'm very open to being surprised with one I'm forgetting. I'm sure that play card toss and rage stripping will be contenders.

I gathered some people were voting for the best "moments" thinking those made for the best gif. I don't think that's necessarily true. Example, the Peppers gif was a really cool moment, but as a gif, I think it takes second place to the Rudock gif.

The successful Harbaugh-Drevno fist bump was the moment I knew we were back on the path to football domination.  That GIF is epic.
