Jermaine Jackson Sr to replace LaVall Jordan?
Per Branden Hunter of Rivals:
He's got NBA experience. Pretty good wiki profile here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermaine_Jackson_(basketball)A source tells me Jermaine Jackson Sr., is headed to Michigan to become an assistant coach there. Was previously at Detroit-Mercy.

Oh wait...the basketball coach, not this guy:
He has the right color shirt.
I dunno, I will wait for WD to chime in.
Since we're switching back to Nike, no, he is not wearing the right color of shirt.
I doubt Beilein offers Jermaine Sr. the job until he takes an official vistit first.
/s
Butter colored shirt, butter glazed from the neck up.
Just once, I want to hear John Beilein say "Tito... Tito, get me a tissue."
why not Tito?
Of note, Jackson's son is a Michigan recruit although at this point he looks more like a Plan B/C recruit.
If this hiring is true, Beilein is definitely not hiring dad to get the son -- you only do that with 5-star recruits.
Jermaine seems to be a pretty good player, though. Already has offers from EMU, Auburn, Georgia Tech and SMU.

Update: coincidentally, I was just reading the News, and Mr. Jackson (Jr.), along with Austin Davis, made the All-State "Dream" team.

Only Belein would hire the dad of an unrated kid.
/s (kinda)
That's weird. He has offers from numerous Power 5 schools, and they don't even slap a generic two or three star label on him? Plus, it's not like he plays in the U.P. -- he plays in Metro Detroit for a good program.
Regardless, I am 100% sure, if Jermaine Sr. is hired, it is not b/c Beilein wants to lock up Jr.
is a very good player. He's really on a small side at 5'9", and his game is similar to Kay Felder from Oakland who should've been a high major player.

but they could pay they dad enough salary that the kid could pay his own way, and not take up a scholarship
not available?
But Michael sure is not.
During his playing days, the guy definitely got around. His Wikipedia playing career looks both amazing and brutal:
Dude has logged some miles.
Maybe he has good European connections.
Recruiting Europe (and the rest of the world) would be an interesting strategy for avoiding the filth of AAU recruiting.
Gonzaga makes this a strategy of theirs, which is probably one of the main reasons they've been an impressively successful mid-major program over the years.
This season they had a couple impact big men from Europe, including that Sabonis guy who averaged 18 pts & 12 rbds.
Then for next year, if you count their one Canadian, they'll have 5(!) international players.
He's not my vidas, he's not your vitas, he's.....

Sabonis technically is a European player after spending a few years there, but he's from Portland and has spent the majority of his life in the PNW so I would chalk that up to the Trailblazers moreso than European recruiting.
That is a great name!
Too good for the GR Hoops or what, Jackson?
Have to say I was a big fan of that rivalry with the Quad City Thunder in the early 90s.
It's a shame he never suited up for the Rapid City Thrillers.
I remember his time with the Pistons back in the day (is the 1999-2000 NBA season "back in the day" now?), but you almost feel like asking him if there are any other teams that he can think of that he hasn't played for but would like to play for. That is some impressive travel around the world's leagues indeed.
Worked for Kansas (Danny Manning) and would be similar tactic to what JH has done.
Far different when you're hiring him as a recruiting coordinator. This is the assistant coach we're talking about...
As long as it's legal I'm cool with it

Detroit Mercy? We couldn't get someone from Virginia or wisconsin to coach defense.
you can hang around in pro ball for 13 years without some knowledge of D....unless you're 'Melo.
"Bruh..."
Lol

Beilein has hung around basketball for decades, so I'm sure he has knowledge of D also. I wish he could stick to the 1-3-1 and roll with that. He knows it and his defenses didn't appear to be a huge liability when they ran it.
James Harden is going to try and prove you wrong.
Or Harden
connections with the high school coaches in the Detroit area which is a plus. Don't know about his coaching chops though.
According to wikipedia theDetroit-Mercy job is his only coaching experience( other then Mt Clemens high school it looks like), personally I would prefer someone with a little more experience, especially if Bacari Alexander is leaving as well, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
HS coaches. He only recruited for one year and didn't coach HS for much longer.
Jackson will help in recruiting Detroit without them. The local coaches at least know who he is and I'd expect them to approve of Beilein hiring an assistant from the city.
Can he recruit or teach defense?
If so, yes please.

JJ (Jermaine Jackson Sr.) is the founder of 1Nation, the basketball club team that Josh Jackson played the last two seasons with. He also has a great relationship with Josh's mom Apple. However, not sure if he could work underneath Coach B's "ideology".
JJ is a great guy, and always wants the best for the kids he coach.
Well if that's the case scoop him up quickly...we need as much goodwill for Josh as we can.

Forgot to mention, JJ was a teammate at UD Mercy with BA (Bacari Alexander) and is still good friends with him. If BA get the job at UD-Mercy, I would think he stays there.
About Detroit Mercy...but wouldn't an assistant job at Michigan be a significant upgrade to UDM? Friend or not, seems like BA would understand if his buddy had an opportunity to go to a B1G program.
I'm going to be Frank and Earnest with you MGoBrewMom (New York I'm Frank and Chicago I'm Earnest) If we have the more laid back Coach B from THJ's time at Michigan, that allowed his assistant more freedom, then yes I think JJ would be ok with coming. If we have the Coach B from the past two seasons that hunkered down and closed the Fort, I wouldn't think JJ would be a good fit.
He has young energy and it is hard to tame young energy.
I don't follow; the scare quotes are throwing me off. What are you saying there?
We used to have open run at Finney's gym and they had JJs jersey in a frame, hanging right over the scoreboard. Now that "Greenhouse" is East English Village, I bet that jersey is in a closet somewhere.
Folded up next to those final four banners...
