OT: Tigers Opening Day

Submitted by itsbigcat on
We Tigers fans have now suffered two long baseball days without Tigers Baseball. I'm sitting in what might be the only bar within sight of Marlins park drinking bad beer and anxiously awaiting the game tonight. Flying out of Miami tomorrow for the games at Comerica this weekend. It's been a long winter, friends, and tonight Verlander gets this 2016 World Series run underway. Everyone have fun watching tonight, and cheers from MGoBrewer from sunny Miami! GO TIGERS

The coldest Tigers home opener on record this year. Good thing they start in Miami so that they can enjoy some warmer weather before coming home to freezing winds and a stadium that'll likely be half full after the 3rd innning b/c of the cold. Hooray April in Michigan!

in 2010.  Man was that cold.  I was shocked when I read this morning that wasn't the coldest opener ever at Comerica.  It didn't snow that day, and the air temperature was around 40 degrees, but the wind howled all afternoon.  I'm guess with wind chill that day it was around 25 degrees.

Considering the rotations in Cleveland and the South Side, this line up is going to struggle.

I don't see us making the playoffs with this roster this season, or in any future season until all of our aging core is gone. And sadly, we don't have any pieces to fill the holes left behind since we've been in "win now" mode for the last 10 years. I forsee a slide similar to what the Phillies are going through. They went all-in, and came out with a WS in 2008 (W) and made the WS in 2009 (L). I just can't see this team winning the WS, let alone make the playoffs. Gonna be another long season.

growing up in Michigan listening to the Tigers on the radio, and my childhood hero, Al Kaline (to this day my lucky number is "6", his jersey number).  Didn't need TV.  How about a few names from the past - Willie Horton, Norm Cash, Ray Oyler (good glove, no hit), Bill Freehan, Micky Lolich, Gates Brown (what a pinch hitter!), Dick McAuliffe, Mickey Stanley, Rocky Colavito (one of 13 players to hit 4 home runs in a game), etc.  (I'll even add Denny McLain, last 30 game winner, but couldn't seem to stay out of jail)     Simpler times.

Baseball's just too long of a season to follow and pay attention to for me. Especially since I'm a Braves fan.

and heck my Rockies won big, so I can still be optimistic for another day. I'm sure they will be fun for April, then May rolls around and the always tank and I start getting excited for football then.

I'm excited for tonight, the Tigers usually crush Wei Yin Chen so hopefully they're able to keep up the trend tonight. Still it's weird for them to open up the season in the south and against an NL team to boot.

Been patientily waiting for tonight for a few weeks now. Spring football is a great holdover, but baseball is what gets me through the summer and into football season.
